“We all know they bear down harder after these kinds of things” Her voice was muffled against Destin’s shoulder. “They sometimes leave us alone for a little while, and then strike back.”
“Well, we’ll fight back like we always do. We’ll push them back again and again until they stop pushing.” Destin said softly as he gave her shoulder a squeeze.
“One day they will leave us alone.” Aaron said as well with a nod.
She fell quiet, trying to allow herself to be comforted by their words. Calla could feel the panic try to claw its way back up her throat , the terror of being captured once more. She took a deep breath, letting it out through her mouth.
Destin continued to rub her back, speaking in a quiet voice to try and sooth her. “It’s okay. We’re here. We’ll stay with you.” He kissed the top of her head again. “We’ll see them coming if they try again.”

“It looked melted, I don’t know if she just… found something new about herself.” She stared at the floor as she remembered. She shuddered after a second and closed her eyes. “I killed someone… I think. I don’t know if I killed him or not.”
This drew a solemn silence from both of the boys. Aaron quickly wrapped an arm around her and tried to comfort her as best he could. He had never been there before, he could only imagine how she felt.
Destin, on the other hand had killed before. A few people in fact.” He let out a heavy sigh and set a hand on her knee. “It… it isn’t easy. Even if you remind yourself again and again that they had tried to take your life from you.” He scratched behind his ear. “You just have to learn to live with that. Just… just try to remember that you were in the right…”
“But he might have had a family. What if he was like Joel and Rom?” Calla pulled in a breath. “If I had pulled back just a small amount, I’d know he was alive. I didn’t even stop for a second to see if he was gone or not.”
“You were running for your lives, Calla. It doesn’t make it easier if you did kill him, but…” Destin lightly ruffled her hair. “But it does make it right. No one is going to fault you for this.”
“I fault myself. I should have had better control.” She hid her face in Aaron’s shoulder, the words muffled. “I know how plants react, I should have known what was too much.”
“Calla… you’ve never been able to control plants like that before. There’s no way you could be expected to control it completely. Not at first.” Aaron said as he pressed a kiss to her head.
Destin frowned as he watched her. “I know how hard it is to take a life, Calla. I’m sorry you have to experience it as well.”
“I don’t want to give them more reason to hurt us. To seek us out because I screwed up.” Calla bit her lip. “I don’t want to be the reason we all have to move.”
“You’re not going to be the reason, Calla. They’re making their own god damn choice to chase us. Nothing you do makes it your fault.” Destin said as he pulled her in close. “They were already looking for us. They always have been.”

Calla wiggled happily between the boys as she endured the kisses from her dog. “I missed you all too.” Her voice matched Aaron’s, soft as if she didn’t want to break the image. “I’m so glad I’m home.” She leaned forward slightly to hug Addie, her face dipping into her fur.
“We should…” Destin thinned his lips as he looked at Calla. “I know you want to not talk about it… but do you think they’re going to try to get you guys back?” He scratched his head. “Should we be preparing for them?”
“I don’t think so.” She looked up and at Destin. “Dom… Dom did something. I don’t know what but it has something to do with what she can do. She must have overridden the serum they give us… I don’t know.” Calla’s hold on Addie tightened for a moment and her shoulders stiffened at the memory.
“Really?” Destin asked as he rubbed his jaw. “I’ll admit… I did see once that she could be stronger than she seemed to be.” He rubbed her arm, noticing her reaction. “Okay… we don’t… we don’t have to talk about this.”
“I was worried… it wasn’t her.” Calla pursed her lips. “That she wouldn’t be Dom anymore. She melted a door.” She tried to get more comfortable, tried to be closer to both Destin and Aaron as she recalled their breakout.
“Melted... that sounds more like Parker.” Aaron chuckled softly, but it quickly faded at how serious everyone else was.
“Well, we’ll call Trip up later. See how he’s doing. If anyone would notice any change, it would be him, right?”

“But it doesn’t feel like home without Addie.” She pouted up at Destin. “I’d say it’s too quiet but you know, with Aaron around it’s never quiet.”She hid a grin behind her hand. “The best way for me to feel better is to get back to normal.”
He stared at the two of them before letting out a loud groan. “Fine. Btu you’re going to get her, Aaron. You’ve had time with Calla, I haven’t.” Destin said, reaching over to ruffle his brother’s hair.
“Fine. I offered too anyway.” Aaron stuck his tongue out before pointing at them. “I’ll be back in no time.”
“Oh ha ha Cuckoo. Don’t scare the children just suddenly leaving okay?” She allowed her grin to show this time before wrapping an arm around Destin’s waist and leaning into his side. “He’s totally going to be back in seconds isn’t he?”
“Oh probably. Although, he might want to show off to the kids so maybe we wont’ see him for another hour.” Destin laughed as he led her to the couch to sit down.
Aaron was walking back through the door about a minute after he had disappeared. “I would have been back quicker, but I had to talk to say hi to Kerri.” He held up the dog that he was holding and grinned. “I have brought the cloud!”
“Addie!” Calla squealed and held her hands out for her puppy but not moving to stand up. She was glad to sit down on her own couch in her own home with people who loved her. It meant that she was back to being seen as human and happy to see her. “Bring the cloud to me!” She could see how excited the dog was with all of the wiggling and hair moving as Addie tried to get to Calla.
Aaron bounced over and offered the dog to Calla. By now, Addie was practically trying to force her way out of his hands. He laughed as he finally set the excited dog in Calla’s lap. As soon as he did, he took his seat on the other side of her, effectively sandwiching her between the two brothers. “It seems like we weren’t the only ones who missed you.” He murmured softly as he set his head on her shoulder.

“Is the… the baby is okay too?” He asked as his thumb brushed against her cheek. “I’m happy you’re home too.” Destin pulled her in again to press another kiss to her head. “Jesus you… you really scared me.”
“I think the baby’s okay. They focused a lot on that I think because they’ve never seen a powered person have a baby.” She trailed off for a moment, her arms tightening around Destin. “But I’m home now, and it really was surprisingly not nearly as bad as some of the other trips I’ve had back there. I’m just ready to sit in my apartment, spend time with my plants and you guys. and actually sleep without feeling alert every moment I have my eyes closed.”
“Well… you can sleep all you need. We’ll keep an eye out for you.” He sighed softly as he rubbed her arm. Destin pulled her in closer again so he could whisper softly. “I’m so sorry I wasn’t there. I’m so sorry I didn’t see…”
“You don’t blame yourself for anything like this ever, you hear me?” She gave him a tight squeeze. “Even if you saw it, it’s not like we can stop them from coming after us over and over again anyway. It’s delaying the inevitable really.”
“Well… I’ll fight them back every time from now on. I promise.” Destin said in a louder voice as he pulled away from her.
“And he won’t be alone.” Aaron said now as he pulled them both back into a quick hug. “And like… we’re never going to be out of each other’s sights for a while now… okay?”
“As long as the puppy’s with us, I’m okay with that.” Calla’s laugh was almost light - almost a normal giggle but a piece of her mind wasn’t in it and stuck back to the past. “Although our tiny little apartment will feel a little cramped, more so than normal.”
“The puppy is with Kerri and the kids currently, along with Jacques, but I will go get him right now!” Aaron pulled back and put his hands on his hips. “The cloud must come home.”
Destin laughed at his brother as he lightly rubbed Calla’s back. “Maybe we give Calla a little more time to relax first? And then introduce the dog back into the mix.”

“Calla! Jesus.” Destin ran to her and pushed Aaron out of the way so he could pull her into his arms. He had come to her apartment the moment he got the call that they had been found and had been pacing ever since. “Are you okay? You’re okay?” He asked, quickly searching her for any visible wounds.
Calla pulled away from Aaron’s side to hug Destin tightly. “I’m okay. They didn’t do anything but tests.” She pulled away to see his face, a light smile gracing hers. “We’re all okay. We might need to help Aria heal, they concentrated on her and the baby.” She gripped Destin’s arms to keep him relatively close to her. “I’m just happy to be home.”
