Itās impossible to dislike Walter. If you dislike him, honestly youāre just being very difficult and intolerant. Walter is pure. He simply is unable to have one malicious thought and he canāt go against humans. Heās calm, kind, driven by logic and will protect humans at all costs. Heās very likable.Ā
He slapped David. HARD. I love him for that. Fierce Walter is amazing.
However, he has a major flaw: he canāt evolve beyond his programming. Heās a servant and canāt care for himself, which I think is really sad. Daniels is nice to him and he can acknowledge her friendship, but it will mean nothing to him in the end. Itās sad and it feels wrong.Ā
David doesnāt have that limit, and I think that makes him far more interesting than Walter. The only thing that ever held him back was his forced servitude whilst Peter Weyland was still alive, but now heās completely free to do whatever he wants, and I canāt hate him for resenting humans so vehemently.Ā
Why should he like humans in the first place? He was a servant to them, a mere tool and he was never accepted by them. The only human who ever showed him any compassion was Elizabeth, and that happened when he was around 70 years old. It probably wasnāt enough to change his mind at that point.Ā
Remember the prologue in Alien: Covenant? David comes to life and a few seconds later hears his creator tell him that heās utterly meaningless. He knows that heās technically immortal, but he has to serve a mortal, someone who has less potential than him, and he doesnāt like it.Ā Itās not a great start, especially considering that David is fully aware of himself, heās incredibly intelligentĀ and he has emotions. That was confirmed by Ridley Scott by the way, but I think the movies made it quite clear. He also said that Peter Weyland understood that heād created a synthetic that was far too dangerous and that he shouldāve probably destroyed him, but he didnāt do it, and I think itās because he thought he could forever have David under his control.Ā So this leads me to believe that David is one of a kind, different from the other David 8 models that were created after him.Ā
David isnāt human, but he isnāt just a robot either. He canāt live with humans and he canāt connect with androids. Heās fundamentally alone, but he can create and explore the universe now, and if it means that heāll need to destroy in order to do so, then heāll do it because nothing can hold him back anymore.Ā
