As she sat in the waiting room of the vets, Arizona couldn’t help her knee bouncing in anticipation. She had worked with big diseases on tiny humans for quite some time, and she trusted her gut when it told her that something was wrong with the fur baby that she and her wife had, she didn’t know what it was but there was something about the feeling that she had that was telling her that their dog really was ill, she didn’t know what it was though, but it was her determination that brought her to this vet clinic, and hopefully the last vet.
“Mama, when’s Mr Snugglepot going to come back out?” her daughter spoke from beside her. Turning her head in her daughters direction, Arizona went to speak but was soon cut off by their Mr Snugglepot in question running towards them to sit at her feet “Now baby.” Arizona smiled as Sofia got down to talk to the pup. Looking up at the vet, Arizona couldn’t help think she looked familiar, but — oh, that’s where.
“Thank you for that, and hormone treatments would be wonderful — Mr Snugglepot is a big part of the family.” she commented as she cleared her throat lightly before continuing “Do you remember me from Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital? I was there when….all hell broke loose.”
Bridgette couldn’t help but let her attention be drawn to the little girl who was now talking to the pup with an awfully strange name, a smile twitching at the corner of her lips. The scene was sweet and it took a lot more effort to bring her attention back to the woman standing before her, blinking several times as she brought herself back to the situation at hand. “ -- Yeah, of course! It’s a pleasure. Hopefully we can get him back into shape so he can start outrunning your little one here."
She hesitated for a moment, pressing her lips tightly together as she shifted between her feet. Bridgette was surprised that she had mentioned it. She was silently hoping that perhaps they could acknowledge it without saying anything but now put in a somewhat odd position, Bridgette could only smile nervously. She lowered the clipboard in her hands, pressing her fingers into it lightly.
“I remember you,” She spoke with a nod, shrugging her shoulders timidly. It was strange to think so much time had passed since she stepped past the emergency room doors of the hospital. Simultaneously feeling like a lifetime ago and as if it had just happened yesterday, Bridgette cleared her throat. She had grown to accept the fact that Noah was gone and he wasn’t coming back. She had finished mourning and she moved forward but when reminders of it came around...
“I have to admit, I’m a bit embarrassed to see you again after... that,” She inhaled softly. Bridgette often found it uncomfortable to even show emotions other than happy when around others but the tragedy had struck her at her core and there wasn’t a care in the world who saw when her feelings were running high. “But I’m sure you get hysterical almost-widows a lot in your line of work.”

It wasn’t until Bridgette had really thought about it that she realized how she knew the blonde woman sitting in the waiting room of her clinic. As she did a full workup on the small beloved dog in hopes of discovering the source of their sickness, her thoughts had wandered back to a cold night in late December a few years back. She had expected it to be a blur with how quickly everything had happened and how suddenly she was no longer engaged but it was quite the opposite. It felt like yesterday, could remember everything so clearly.
As she worked and was finally able to give some news to her newest client, Arizona Robbins, Bridgette couldn’t help but feel a bit... awkward. She watched as the small dog trotted back to their owner, curling at her feet.
I wonder if she remembers me.
“Miss Robbins, your dog has an autoimmune disease known as Addisons disease,” She spoke clearly and softly. “It’s rare, even more rare to find in dogs but that explains why your dog has always been a bit ill. I can set up a hormone treatment to help the body get regulated again but you’ll have to come by once a week so I can properly gauge how the treatment is going.”

“Mmm,” Finley managed a tired hum. He didn’t want to open his eyes, he didn’t want to be awake. He just wanted the high to end- it wasn’t fun anymore. It hadn’t been fun from the start, actually, but now it had just gone from bad to awful. Everything hurt, and with his attempt to relax his body, the tremors started up again. He was starting to feel more nauseous, too. A soft whine escaped his lips.
Fin could tell now that the vet kneeling beside him was scared, just by her voice. Did he really look as bad as he felt? Was that even possible? He drew in a long breath through his nose, squeezing his eyes shut tighter against his pounding headache. God, he just wanted to sleep. The shivering that wracked his body picked up a notch, and he drew his knees to his chest. Why was he so cold?
“Okay,” Fin agreed, his voice small. He felt almost childlike, with how vulnerable he was both physically and mentally. That scared him. It scared him how much he wanted to be held, to be comforted. He hadn’t seen anyone for days and only now was he realizing how deprived of touch he was, even if it was just the empty caresses that came with his frequent one night stands. What a time to be realizing this, when he was bleeding heavily and higher than a kite.
Luckily for Finley, the effects were finally beginning to wear off. It was subtle, coming in the form of a slight increase in the coherency of his thoughts. It wasn’t much but at least the edge was wearing away, a sign that he was coming down. It provided a small relief in his haze.
She was relieved when he had agreed for her to help him. Bridgette nodded her head, deciding it was best not to waste time and started to climb back to her feet. She brushed off her dress, moving to the door way before looking back at the other. “Try not to fall asleep, okay? I’ll be right back -- five minutes tops.”
Bridgette didn’t wait for a response, instead taking the opportunity to quickly head back downstairs. Upon arrival into her own apartment, the small black cat which was curious about her abrupt exit had reemerged into her sights. Shadow watched her curiously as she raced back and forth, gathering the supplies she needed to try and clean him up. Following behind her as she headed back towards the door, Bridgette quickly gave a pat on his small head before juggling her supplies back up the stairs.
She half expected him to fall asleep but was relieved when she came back and he still appeared to be coherent (or however coherent he could be considering the situation). He looked terrible, on the brink of passing out but once she would begin cleaning the cuts on his arms she could almost bet that he would be jolted awake. Especially the one cut that was particularly deep. As Bridgette settled back down next to him with her box of supplies placed neatly beside her, she didn’t say anything as she begun to fish out the cleaning alcohol and a few gauze pads. He was probably going to hate her by the time she was finished.
“I’m going to clean your cuts, okay? I’m not going to lie, it’s going to REALLY hurt,” Bridgette spoke with a small half smile as she covered a gauze pad in alcohol. Hesitantly she reached out, her soft fingers lightly touching his upper arm closest to her as she brought down the gauze pad on the deeper of the cuts. Immediately it had begun to oxidize the blood surrounding it, and she couldn’t help but cringe in thought of the pain it must’ve caused. Bridgette could only hope that maybe the drugs would help ease his suffering for now.
“ -- Sorry, you’re probably going to hate me," She mumbled quietly as she held the gauze pad in place with the palm of her hand, “Especially when I tell you that I’m going to have to stitch this cut up.”
