Why Are People Into Service?! w Laura Antoniou
SUBJECT: Service
GUEST: Laura Antoniou
FIRST POSTED: March 2014
BACK STORY: I had admired Laura's writing and curmudgeonly attitude for some time, and in particular felt like I didn't completely understand the leather community until I read her hilarious and loving satire The Killer Wore Leather. I actually got the chance to interview her quite spontaneously when I was at her place to meet with someone else!
EPISODE SUMMARY: In Episode Three, Tina Horn talks with prolific kinky author Laura Antoniou about erotic service and sex slaves. Why would someone want to be sexually enslaved to another? Why would someone want a slave to submit to them utterly? Could this all just be about getting off and feeling more connected? Laura gives some surprising advice for newbies: get off the internet and volunteer at an event, especially if you’re a top! And we learn just how romantic a cup of coffee can be…
GUEST BIO: Laura Antoniou has been writing erotica for over twenty years. Best known for her Marketplace series, she has also edited and appeared in many anthologies and wrote the Rainbow Award winning kinky comedy mystery, The Killer Wore Leather. As a presenter, panelist, and keynote speaker, Laura has appeared at dozens of conferences over more than twenty years, both entertaining and delivering an occasional verbal indictment. She has also appeared at colleges and universities, including Harvard, NYU, Rutgers, Columbia and the University of Washington. Her website is http://LAntoniou.com; follow her on Facebook and Twitter.

This week’s Tumblr excerpt is...C IS FOR COCK!
“Cock” is just a fantastically dirty word that might refer to any equipment used for boning— cis penis, cis clit, trans genitals, a hand, or strapped-on dildo. You might prefer any number of other words for your anatomy and/or the anatomy of your play partners, but we chose cock because it just feels like the perfect filthy term for an erotic phallus, attached or strapped.

The notion that "porn is bad" and "erotica is good" harms us all.
Gloria Steinem wants you to say erotica with a monocle and an r-rolling mid-Atlantic accent: eh-rrr-otica! She wants you to say porn with a very hard R, slobbering out of the side of your mouth like Al Bundy. But it’s a seriously classist assertion that we should just be able to tell the difference between bad porn and good erotica. The implication is that good (educated) people are aroused by erotica and bad (trashy) people are aroused by porn. Or, as the great feminist critic Ellen Willis put it way back in 1978: “In practice, attempts to sort out good erotica from bad porn inevitably come down to ‘What turns me on is erotic; what turns you on is pornographic.’”

This week is...B IS FOR BUTTS!
What does it mean to go in through the out door? Well, it’s a way to pull one over on Mother Nature, and that’s also pretty damn queer! Anal sex is just one of many ways that body pleasure can be liberated from the function of procreation.
Previously: A is for Activism!

The first essay in my new series: The A to Z of Queer Sex is up on my Patreon! Pledge $5/month to get access to this weekly serial sex ed extravaganza, plus tons of behind the scenes access to my sex and kink podcast Why Are People Into That?! (Thanks to kd diamond for the original and outrageous GIF illustrations!). Support indie queer weirdo outsider art and get cool stuff along the way!
In 2014 Lauren Marie Flemming approached me with an idea for a book collaboration. An Ebook, self published, with 500 word mini essays on queer sex, with a focus on kink, non-monogamy, and social justice! Her brilliant concept was to do a grownup's A to Z guide, and I found this structure super motivating.
Lauren and I brainstormed topics for months ("If B is for Butts, then K can be kink, but if A is Anal then B should be BDSM, which means K should be..."). We emailed drafts back and forth, and got really close to a manuscript. Then, as Adele would say, #lifehappened, and Lauren decided to focus on other endeavors. Since then, my essays on Fisting and Lube and Dildos have been collecting dust in my G Drive.
UNTIL NOW!
Recently, I realized this project in progress is something I can give my Patrons in addition to the podcast!
I'm now announcing that all of my Patrons that pledge $5 a month or more per month will be able to read a serially-released book of short, raunchy, educational, funny, uncensored essays by me about QUEER SEX!
Every Monday for the next 26 weeks, I'll be posting a new essay with an original illustration by kd diamond of Girl Sex 101.
So if you're currently pledging $1 and you've been considering upgrading, a few more bucks will give you access to an exciting new level!
