1.) She's very proud of her name, because she came up with it all by herself. That's why she was so excited to say "Melissa" when Santos asked what Mel is short for.

2.) I believe she lost her dad pretty young, so he never actually got to know her as his daughter, and that kind of eats her alive sometimes.

3.) When she and Becca were kids, people would tell them that they could be identical twins if they were both girls, but when Mel transitioned, she ended up looking nothing like her sister.

4.) Mel became a doctor because she wanted to help as many people as she could, but also a little bit because she was tired of people calling her "Mr.".

5.) She was bullied in high school (which is canon) but she was specifically isolated from female friendships due to her transness and neurodivergence.

6.) Her eating disorder was primarily about texture but also because she desired a slim frame in order to "fit in" with the other girls, which led to her having ARFID with orthorexic tendencies.

7.) Her hormonal transition went very smoothly, but she struggled with the idea of surgery and the recovery process so she still has not undergone any surgeries (which doesn't make her any less valid, assholes).

8.) Her discomfort with her body, isolation in high school, and med school workload led her to develop a very weak sense of herself sexually, but when she discovered music like Megan Thee Stallion, she began to actually observe her body as something that could be desired.
