You actually cannot skip to being good at a creative endeavour that you haven't put much practice into. You cannot trick your way out of the 'knows that your work is not what you want it to be but don't know how to improve it' stage by planning or reading or talking about it really really hard. At some point you just have to craft through it until your brain finds it's own unique way back to the 'everything I make slaps' stage and be prepared to start the cycle all over again. You just have to make that project you're excited about slightly less good than you want it to be. (Says this standing in a pool of blood and covered in blood and also coughing up a little blood)
everyone stop reblogging this I hate to be reminded of my own good advice
I haven't drawn it in a long time :,)
“i should take a walk for my mental health” boring, tired, i don’t even really wanna do it tbh
“i need to check the perimeter” i need to check the perimeter
véritables préludes flasques (pour un chien)
Historically, one of the most reliable sources of widespread banditry was rulers ramping up military recruitment for major wars, then cutting their soldiers loose afterwards without pay, leaving a bunch of heavily armed men with military experience floating around broke and homeless.
Knowing this, whenever someone jokingly refers to raccoons as "trash bandits", I get a vivid mental image of, like, a raccoon succession crisis leading to a raccoon civil war, the aftermath of which forced the former soldiers of the losing side (who are all raccoons) to take up the life of the raccoon outlaw.
I've reached the point where cynicism is a major turn-off for me. You're not smarter than idealists, and you're not helping.
Funny that the stereotypical cynic is an idealist who aged out of it. In my experience, the reverse is true. I was an extreme cynic as a teenager and then I noticed how profoundly limiting it was, and also that "cynics are cool and smart" was a message that was being constantly reinforced by corporate media for some reason.
#yes! cynicism reads as very juvenile to me#and yes prev often stemming from teen pain
Yeah, like I see black-pilled people on here and my default reaction isn't "oh, these must be world-weary old warriors who've lost their faith in humanity", it's "these people are in their 20s and need a hobby"
I also think that the present era has proven that authoritarian leaders don't actually want a population of wide-eyed idealists, they want a population of jaded assholes who are convinced that everyone is lying, any resistance is either a scam or doomed to failure, and nothing can ever get better.

Seriously... I thought this was a plushie laying on a piece of paper... that's a phenomenal drawing!!! Spectacular!!! ✨️❤️❤️❤️✨️ I saw that pencil roll over it and it's still hard to believe this is a drawing!!! Such a magnificent work of art!! 🥳🎉🎊✨️❤️
The power of trick art really is something.
THE TRUTH: art is inherently manipulative and artists are wicked evildoers who like to power trip off of controlling other people's emotions

Also!! Many of these trans folks are producing manga about their lives and experiences! There’s a fair few, but here’s the three I’ve personally read, all of which I decidedly recommend!
The Bride Was A Boy by Chii-chan about a trans woman and her straight guy husband who loves her very much, done in a very cute chibi style
X-Gender by Miyazaki Asuka which is also a lot about their sexuality. It’s been a while since I read this one but it now has a sequel as well which I really want to get my hands on!!
Until I Love Myself: The Journey of a Nonbinary Manga Artist by Poppy Pesuyama which I’ve only read volume one of. Warning for this one, Pesuyama deals with some extremely heavy sexual harassment which they depict in some detail as well as his reaction to this harassment. It’s extremely good though. (I’m using multiple pronouns because Pesuyama identifies as nonbinary but uses masculine first person pronouns for himself. Japanese doesn’t always use third person pronouns like we do, so it’s unclear what they would prefer in that case.)
