Everyone needs to see this
Anyone else think Sage was done a little dirty?
Like he barely has any time in the books, which sure, fair. But then he loses to *checks notes* four iron fae assassins. In the heart of his own court. With a wolf on his side and the scepter right there (which may or may not give him extra power, I don't know, just seems like it would.)
And it's not like he was caught off guard. Sure, a bit, but it wasn't a sudden ambush. Tertius even told him 'nah I'm not Ash', so it wasn't like he thought he was fighting Ash and that was a shock. Seeing something that looks like his brother can't be the most shocking things he's seen in his life.
I don't know, we just see some crazy stuff throughout the series and characters fight it off. I just wished Sage got a little more respect, I guess? Maybe some cool moves or powers because of him having the upper hand in his own realm. Being Mab's first son, you'd think the Winter Realm would be happy to help him.
It would be very cool if something like that was shown, and then maybe yeah, they could utilize Tertius again. Pretending to be Ash, Sage thinks ah nice, my brother is here to protect the scepter, and gets stabbed in the back. Especially cruel if he dies thinking Ash betrayed them.
Ash is my favorite of the three brothers, but I completely agree: Sage was done dirty and deserved a more honorable death. Sure he died trying to protect his realm, but for being the oldest, that was really anticlimactic.
Right? For how big of a role Rowan plays, Sagw just dying like that was so anticlimatic as you say😭
I want to know more about him so badly. If at least his fighting style was unique or something...
And another thing:
You (Julie Kagawa) expect me to believe that MAB of all Fey believed Meghan, a half breed whose glamour was fucking blocked, was able to take down her oldest son in his own palace, let alone realm, where he is significantly more powerful than she is?
That makes no sense to me. Mab is smarter than that. And yes, I know she was just looking for a reason to punish Meghan as a way to hurt Oberon, but you can't expect me to believe Mab actually thought Meghan killed Sage.
She didn't think it was Meghan who did it though, she blamed Oberon. So I assume she thought Oberon had sent some fae to infiltrate Winter and kill her son, as revenge for her stealing Meghan.
Considering the Iron Fey managed, I guess that's fair. (Mab, you need better security) (Aka get rid of Rowan he let them in💔)
"get rid of Rowan" I'm screaming 😂😂
But Meghan had stated she was there willingly, so Oberon didn't interfere. Like I get in her anger believing it was someone sent by Oberon, but Mab is strategic. Oberon is also strategic, he wouldn't be so bold as to start a war over Meghan after dismissing her once she disclosed her willingness to be there.
Idk maybe I'm just overthinking things lol

Have you ever used a Linux machine? My brain functions similarly, with everything being organized as files/data. I have total multisensory aphantasia, a neurodivergence that leaves my brain unable to consciously conjure up images, sounds, smells, tastes, and textures. I've never been able to visualize in my mind – when I think of a star, my brain gives off a vibe/energy that feels like the concept of a star, I don't 'see' anything.
Cases as extreme as mine are extremely rare, as total aphantasia affects less than 1% of the population. The most common type of aphantasia, visual, only affects around 2-4% of the population.
I always have thoughts going through my mind, it's just not something I hear. Every thought is energy that I interpret, which can make explaining different concepts difficult. Yes, I get songs stuck in my head, or even just parts of songs, but I don't 'hear' the music. But, just because I can't hear it, it doesn't mean that I don't know what it sounds like. I can still know the melody or words or whatever, it's just energy.
Even when I was a kid, I couldn't 'see' stuff in my mind. I had the *concepts* of imaginary friends, but I couldn't visualize them. Really, the closest I get to visualizing is when I'm reading. It's still not a picture, but it's more substantial than just energy.
The part I find most perplexing, though, is that my dreams (rare they may be) are *loaded* with sensory experiences. I can't voluntarily call an image to mind, but my subconscious brain can still generate sensory content when I'm asleep.
There is a big way I feel like I'm at an advantage with aphantasia: learning languages. Languages are often formulaic; they follow rules, there's a specific order to say things, but they're also lots and lots of data. Every word gets added to my 'database' in my mind (kind of why I chose a Linux system for my analogy) and I don't have to convert a sensory image (like a picture of an apple) into a word in whatever language I'm working on; I access the concept of 'APPLE' directly and pluck the appropriate label out of the database.
I know I'm not alone, as rare as I may be. Let me know if you don't experience sensory thinking, sharing our experiences will help others get it. And if you can see images and hear sounds, what's the coolest thing you can call to mind right now? Like, can you see a dragon 🐉 if you think about one?
So this happens in the encounter with Virus
"Of course, the claims of becoming immune to iron are completely false. As if thousands of years of history can be rewritten or erased."
And then
At that, all the humans sitting at the tables stood, shedding glamour like discarded jackets, filling the air with fraying strands of illusion. Human facades dropped away, to reveal a dozen faeries in spiky black armor, their faces sickly and pale beneath their helms. As one, the Thornguards drew their serrated black swords and pointed them at us, trapping us in a ring of faery steel.
So. The Thornguards are all following Rowan who believes they can become immune. But. The person they're also following is telling them 'lol Rowan is a fool' and 'yeah you can't'.
I feel like it would've been awesome if this backfired. Especially because she also has Ash, them realizing wait... she is literally saying he'll die. Of iron. Why would we be different?
Just Virus being so hahaha I am so smart. And then her guards rebelling.
Maybe they're not loyal. Maybe they're just scared she'll put a bug in them if they're not.
I like how there's Virus, and Glitch.
And you think oh, maybe the third one is Bug, Crash, Lag, something like that?
No lol. It's a horse made of iron and he's called Iron Horse.
What a character. 10/10
This is why we deserve a workplace comedy prequel that takes place in the iron court.
I wanna see Iron Horse before Machina!! It would be great
Okay so. Meghan is not the first half human child from Oberon, right. But he doesn't send Puck to guard each one over the years.
(Now I don't know if the books give a reason why Meghan specifically gets so much protection. They probably do. I'm gonna ignore it if it's there, for this post)
So. What if. Oberon knows Puck has been a mess since Ariella died. He sees Puck far too focused on Ash, and knows Puck had some suicidal tendencies as well. Plus the self hatred and guilt, it's all hard to miss.
In his own messed up way, Oberon does care for Puck. Maybe it's just because he needs Puck useful, and this isn't good. Maybe there's more to it. Probably not.
Anyway. He could've sent any guard to Meghan. But he chose Puck. Because he figured him being away from everything for a while and having a purpose might help (and maybe Mab's son gets himself killed in the meantime...)
Of course being basically banished from the NeverNever for a human lifetime isn't exactly fun for Puck.
But... it does help. Not the being away from home, but Meghan helps. Someone to take care of. To not screw it up with. Who cares for him.
This does work with the very broad reason canon gave us. Canons reasoning was (as far as I remember): Ariella asking Grim to make sure Puck is appointed Meghan's guard.
So all Grim had to do was planting the right words and ideas into the kings head.
"Hey. Your jester nearly killed himself by letting the winter prince kill him. That's three times this month. Maybe he should be away for a while?"
"Hey. Titiania wants to kill your half human daughter."
Done
This goes DIRECTLY against canon but idc because I want to believe at this point, after trying to get killed by Ash three times, Oberon has simply decided to lock Puck in the dungeons somewhere until they’re no longer a threat to themselves and others. So Grim’s idea of “hey maybe your bastard child needs someone to guard her” is also a way to get his depressed and self-destructive jester out of the house, because clearly imprisonment isn’t working.
Okay so. Meghan is not the first half human child from Oberon, right. But he doesn't send Puck to guard each one over the years.

I’m sorry I keep thinking about how Ravens can 100% talk/mimic human voices, which means Puck has the option to speak as a Raven at any time, but he never does and I can only assume it’s because when he’s a bird he wants to be in “Happy Dumbass, Unheeded by Social Expectations” mode. He refuses to interact with other fey via speech because he is a Bird and he will be treated like one.
The scenarios I’m thinking that stem from this are such:
Meghan, using Bird-Puck as a sounding board while going over a trade deal: I don’t know, I feel like these prices are too high for what we’re getting.
Puck: for sure, you’re getting swindled, you need to negotiate.
Meghan: WHAT THE FUCK???
-
Ash: do you know a safe area nearby we could rest for the night?
Puck: *caw*
Ash: QUIT CAWING AT ME I KNOW YOU CAN TALK.
-
Grimalkin: I’ve always considered you bird brained, of course, but if you insist on—
Puck: caw.
Grimalkin: … Did you just SAY caw at me?
Puck: *caw*
ablebodied people with adhd I challenge you to never, not once, a single time this month, tell a person with paralysis “well ACHKTUALLY, my adhd LITERALLY paralyzes me” . you have 30 days. can you do it?
Dear invisibly disabled Tumblr user, before you is one (1) post by a visibly disabled person talking about the specific ableism that they face and/or being positive towards other visibly disabled people specifically. You must reblog it without making any additions that derail to talk about yourself. Failure will result in the trap activating and launching both you and your phone directly into the sun
Btw, if you're against trans man and mascs discussing their issues as trans men and mascs, actively harassing us over your biases, you're part of the reason there's trans men, mascs, even boys killing themselves right now.
There is blood on your hands.
Thinking about the Iron Daughter and miss Stacy when she says this
“Like I said before, he’s still weak from the iron-sickness, but he’s no longer in any danger. Though I must say—” and she glared at me fiercely, “—the boy almost snapped my wrist when I tried sewing his wounds shut. Wretched Unseelie, the only thing they know is violence.”
So. Now I'm picturing Ash waking up and being out of it, the bug having messed him up badly, and the iron sickness is making him delirious. He won't accept help.
So they try to calm him down and explain the situation, but Ash is so out of it his doesn't recognize them.
Except Puck. For some reason, his mind has gone to the past, where they were still friends. And Puck reassures him that Stacy is okay and he needs to accept help.
Just... having to push the current situation between them away because this isn't that Ash. Friends turned enemies needing to go back to friends, even just for a moment.
I am watching the old MacGyver Series with my mom and it got me thinking that Puck would probably act the same. I mean he already carries around a bag full of stuff for pranks. And let's be honest, most of the stuff MacGyver builds are just up scales and more dangerous versions of children's pranks.
What I am saying is, Puck is a menace to society and knows how to use anything as a weapon and can build the most abstract contraptions for pranks or as traps
Puck either gets them out of the Situation through an overly complicated crafted thing that nobody would think of, or he tries and it fails epicly.
Then Ash just cuts through whatever it is with anger, ice, and sword.
