Today’s evening project reading session in the library ✨ after a positive start to the term both academically and personally, I hit stumbling blocks project-wise and mental health-wise at the start of this week, but I’m getting my sh*t together again and catching up with some neglected work (even if I’m avoiding the code for now). reading everything is tuberculosis (by John Green ofc) and struck by the fact that people considered a “tuberculosis personality” to be a thing. It reminds me of the (slightly) more modern concept of a “migraine personality” that was very popular in the early stages of migraine medicine and has persisted to this day. It’s interesting how the stigma between such different diseases is so similar, and it ties into the larger point of the section that all stigmatization of disease is fundamentally about preserving your sense of safety and convincing yourself that illness could never happen to you for whatever reason

PSA TO ALL READERS while wandering around a mall today I was ensnared by a powerful force that bade me enter a place called Barnes & Noble. in a daze I wandered the displays and was compelled to even pick up several books that this force attempted to foist upon me at great personal cost to myself. it was only through great strength of will that I was able to fight off this befouling force by withdrawing my cellular device from my pocket and logging into my library account to place requests for the same books at no cost that i was able to escape without grievous harm. truly it's crazy out there, stay safe and remember that libraries are always there to provide aid as you fight against such forces of darkness

the public library is a spectacular place because I can pick up a little book that is vaguely interesting FOR FREE and if I hate it I have lost nothing and if I love it I have gained everything AND IT WAS FREE!!

the library gives you a chance to try so many new things without it I wouldve never even picked up some of my now favorite books ever

Been reading Bloom’s Against Empathy lately, more on a whim than anything. Some interesting ideas tucked away between those digital pages. In other news I finally got around to watching Villeneuve’s Dune - the first one, late, I know. The aesthetic cohesion is really quite something and much of the design language used aligns so well with my own preferences. Jacqueline West really got me with the Atreides outfits; I fear I’ll be searching for a kosovorotka like Paul’s for the rest of my life.

#every diagnosis i've ever gotten has started with me going to the doctor and being like hey i think i have [x]#so like. what even is self dx #some stuff is complicated and a doctor can figure things out better but some things are pretty straightforward #I think I'm actually better at diagnosing migraine than most doctors. lmao

y’know for me it straight up doesn’t even occur to me to unfollow someone when they stop posting whatever it is i followed them for. unless the thing they’re posting about now is somehow actually actively upsetting to me i just accept it as a part of my life now. i’ll just scroll past it like i’m driving a car and dodging an obstacle on the road. and that part of the road is my daily commute and the thing stays on the road forever and i swerve around it every day for months instead of ever taking the initiative to get it removed. it just adds flavor i guess
