i really want to believe that hisoka is living on borrowed time, kind of like bucciarati in jojo. nen is set against the concept of something for nothing, and a wish seems insufficient for averting death. when you compare him to camilla, who literally trades other lives for her own, or kite, who had to be reborn as another species and slowly recover his memories, hisoka’s toll is light. 

hisoka was dead long enough for the phantom troupe to dig him out of the rubble and find a cushion for his body, so bungee gum pumping his heart and lungs after death shouldn’t be enough to restore brain function on its own. obviously this is all made possible by nen, which serves as some form of consciousness as well as a source of energy, but nen is finite. it’s worth noting that terpsichora, a similar post-mortem ability, couldn’t sustain itself against a single attack.

all in all, i wouldn’t be surprised if hisoka finds himself in a fight he can’t win (again) or just keels over at a suitably dramatic moment.
