“so, remember how i said i got my lip pierced? yeah, my lip is swollen about the size of a grapefruit– not very happy about it.”
“You should probably go to a doctor, yeah?”
“Thanks, and trust me I know not to eat Val’s cooking.” she laughed, “I’m not that willing to be poisoned yet.”
“Smart decision.” TJ told his aunt, sitting down now to eat the authentic Mexican tacos he had made. The smell of them completely overwhelmed the kitchen and he hoped that the rest of the house wouldn’t mind, but to be done right the flavors had to be intense. “So, how was your day?” He asked, not knowing what else to say.
“You have a good point there, but your food is almost as good as your mothers.”
“Well I did learn from the best. Here, have another and a word of warning: Valerie’s is not just like mamí’s.” He told her with a laugh.
“Keep telling yourself that, big guy,” she shook her head at him. “No, I didn’t let anyone borrow it. Your sister is my roommate.”
“Ah, she wouldn’t have taken it. She definitely has enough clothes of her own, though she might let you borrow a skirt of hers or something? I don’t really have the means to help you there.”
“I’m not going to lie, I doubted your cooking skills but this is amazing. Please cook all the time?”
“I don’t know about that. I only cook when everyone else refuses to feed me.”
“No, I didn’t. I’m, like, super gay so I don’t care about the thickness of your ass, TJ.” She rolled her eyes at him, “If I didn’t need the skirt, I’d be looking for something else to wear.”
“Everyone should care about the thickness of my ass, straight or nah.” TJ said with complete conviction before sighing. “Did you let anyone borrow it then? Who’s your roommate?”
“Yeah, not what I meant, but okay.”
“It’s what you meant. Don’t lie. But anyways, I obviously didn’t steal your skirt, but I do believe by the size of the suitcases that you hauled in, you have other clothes.”
“My skirt would never fit over your ass.”
“Ass so thick...”
“Alright, which one of you bitches took my skirt?”
“Just couldn’t help myself. It flatters my figure too nicely.”
Lani laughed at him and scooted forward so she was on his back again. “Yes, sir,” she chuckled and grabbed the crackers before wrapping her arms around him. “I hope whatever this is isn’t contagious. I’d hate for you and the whole house to get sick,” she frowned. “Wouldn’t make for good TV.”
“I’m sure we’d all survive.” TJ told her, walking up the stairs now. “Maybe it would make for wonderful TV, watching us all moan and groan and do nothing to better ourselves.” He added with a chuckle, now heading down the hall to Lanie’s room. “I don’t remember the last time I was sick honestly, so I’d say that I’m safe.”
“Well, I guess that makes me feel a little better,” she blushed. Lanie made a face when she put the pills in her mouth and quickly swallowed them down with a drink of water. She thought for a second and shook her head in response, “No thanks. I don’t really have an appetite right now.”
TJ nodded at her words and went to the fridge, grabbing a couple of water bottles and going back over to her. “All aboard!” He called with a laugh, facing his back to her and crouching a bit. “Don’t forget your saltines.” TJ told her as well, knowing that while she may not feel hungry, her body needed a little bit of nourishment.
Ryder’s eyes went wide at his comment before shaking her head. She knew this was how he was, she knew his temper but she still moved forward knowing he wouldn’t do anything to her, “No. I’m not going to forget and you are not leaving.” she started moving in front of him now to block the door way, “Whether you like it or not you’re my nephew and if something’s bothering you, you can talk to me. I know you can’t calm down because that’s not who you are but there is something wrong and I’m here for you if you want to talk.”
TJ’s eyes widened a bit as Ryder blocked his exit, moving back from the woman once more, trying to suppress how his pulse jumped at the confrontation. “I wish it wasn’t who I was.” He said, jaw tight as his eyes searched for any other way out of the situation but found none. “Nothing is wrong, okay? Nothing new at least.” He told her, hoping she would leave it at that.

“In case you haven’t noticed I get enough of that with the camera’s around. My father left on a tv show I have loads of mortification to last me awhile. So please don’t mortify me in front of the guy I like.”
TJ fixed his younger cousin with a long look before sighing. “I’m not even going to touch that worrying association of topics right now.” He said, taking a step back and putting his hands up. “Your wish is granted, I won’t take interest in anymore of your affairs or endeavors. Go have fun with your boy toy.” He told her before turning away to head up the stairs, completely miffed.
Sadie glared at the older boy for a second, “TJ I swear if you do anything to ruin this and or make one of the other idiots ruin this I will forever hate you.” She spoke with a serious tone.
TJ rolled his eyes at his cousin’s dramatics. “Lighten up, would you?” He said. “Take your due share of mortification from the family and move on.”
“See I thought just maybe Matty was over exaggerating about how you were acting but even I want to slap the shit out of you. I found it downstairs, I knew it was either yours or Marcus’ I had to check. calm the fuck down.”
“Mateus is 20 years old and is still tattling to his mom?” TJ muttered to himself, shaking his head then looking at his aunt with annoyance. He took a step back as her words spiked his blood pressure, amber eyes dropping to the floor as he fought against himself. “Yeah, I’ll try that.” He said, sarcasm weighing heavy on his words. “Whatever, Ryder. Forget it.” TJ added, words that still held the emotion that he couldn’t escape but were also dismissive enough that he now tried to turn to leave the room. He knew he was behaving irrational, but there was no off switch for him and he was honestly commending himself on nothing being broken.
“Quite the opposite really.” she muttered motioning Jake to come into the house before closing the door behind him. “Um you can just wait in the sitting room it’s through that door.” She spoke to Jake before she shook her head at the boy’s question as she turned to face him again, “Nope haven’t seen them not that I was looking for them anyways. What intel do you have?”
TJ’s amber eyes followed the younger boy as he left the room before returning to his cousin, his smile returning to his lips then. “Just a brand new happening, nothing you need to know.” He told her with a chuckle.
