Humans are weird: getting a new family part 1
Aldon was so very cold and tired. Ze was the only one of ze family still alive.
When the great leader had declared war on the alliance, all the quza had cheered and celebrated.
A war would certainly bring luck to the quza empire since the alliance was made up of weak and inferior races. They were dekadent and immoral according to the great leader.
At first the war did go as the great leader had predicted. The element of surprise gave the quza army a big advantage.
They conquered planet after planet. Often the inhabitants were killed, but sometimes they were used as slave labour. They were worked to death in the fields or factories.
The great leader told the quza people, not to feel sorry for the conquered races as they deserved their fate.
Anyone who dared to question the great leader and the way the prisoners were treated would disappear. Some only to show up later telling everyone that they had been wrong, others were never heard from again.
Rumours said that some of those who disappeared, had been seen in the fields or factories with the weak races but surely that had to be wrong!
Aldons father was proud to go to war and so was ze brothers. They longed to see glorious battle and Aldon was upset because ze was to young to go.
Instead ze helped the war effort in one of the factories. That’s when ze saw with ze own eyes, how the prisoners were treated.
Ze knew that they deserved it and that getting rid of the weak and inferior was a noble mission. But still ze felt so sorry for them.
It got worse when ze started noticing that the prisoners were not stupid and primitive like ze had learned in school.
Soon Aldon began to question every thing ze had learned.
When the alliance got help from a new race, the tide of war changed and now the quza empire was no longer fighting to expand. It was fighting for its very survival.
The new race was called Humans and they were a formidable opponent. They came from a death world and had made war almost into an art form.
Their soldiers could fight in all kinds of terrain and they were equipped to handle any kind of weather.
The great leader decided to approach the Humans. Such a race could only be fighting for the alliance because of deceit.
They were probably unaware of the greatness of the quza and when they learned of the plan to rid the universe of the weak and inferior, so a new and glorious world could be built they would align with the quza.
But the great leader was mistaken. When the diplomats came back it was with one massage. Surrender or die.
Aldon did not know anything about this. But ze did know that ze father and ze brothers had died trying to defend the borders of the empire.
Ze also knew that the great leader was wrong about the other races and ze tried desperately to save as many as ze could.
Ze smuggled food inside. At first ze would buy extra and when food got scarce ze shared ze own.
Ze would hide tired and sick prisoners and ze tried to distract guards who were lookin for someone to take their frustration with the war out on.
When the bombing of the city began the quza fleed, but Aldon stayed behind to evacuate the factorie. Then ze hid in the ruins
After the war the quza was seen as despicable and all the other races despised them.
Aldon got used to being cold, hungry and wet. Ze learned to run when groups of people wanted someone to blame for their loses.
Now ze was bathing in the stream careful to hide from sight.
The water was cold and ze could not understand why humans would swim in it for fun.
Aldon saw a small human child swimming and playing. Suddenly the child was taken by the current and it was losing the battle to swim back to the shore.
Aldon swam to the child and got it to safety even though ze was not much bigger than the child.
When they reached the shore, they were surrounded by humans. Aldon tried to get away but ze was unsuccessful.
When the Humans learned how young Aldon was, they refused to let ze leave on ze own.
Ze tried to explain that ze had been alone since the war ended last season, but that just upset the Humans.
Aldon was taken to the city, at first ze was placed in one of the prisons while the alliance tried to find out more about ze.
When they realised, that ze had worked in one of the factories, despite being so very young, they interrogated him for a long time. Some of them became quite aggressive and Aldon was very afraid.
Ze was sure they would hurt ze, maybe even kill ze. But one of the Humans intervened on ze behalf.
Then a miracle happen. One of the former prisoners recognized Aldon and told the police, how ze had helped save a lot of people.
It was decided, that Aldon was not a war criminal and ze was given a light sentence. Ze was to work of the sentence in a restaurant owned by humans.
At first Aldon thought that ze would be worked to death, like ze government had worked ze prisoners to death.
But that night Aldon slept in a bed for the first time in ages. Not only that, ze had clean clothes and a full stomach. Ze began to hope that working in the restaurant would not be a death sentence but perhaps a new beginning?
