For old time’s sake.

lying to eli is a challenge,  not necessarily because she feels conflicted about it. they’ve known each other for over a year now, in close capacity thanks to karate, and as great as it is that jordan could name all of eli’s tells without a second thought, he could probably do the same for her. and while it technically isn’t a lie — abuela was very clear about not having anyone over when she wasn’t home — he doesn’t make it easy by any means. brows knit together as he speaks — why is she surprised that he’s being so aggressive? oh, right, because normally it’s aimed at someone else. what doesn’t surprise her is the reason why he’s pounding on her door in the middle of the day like this; she takes a step over the threshold, pulling the apartment door shut behind her.

❛   if you stick around for a few minutes, she’ll show up.   ❜        she doesn’t leave the enigmatic answer enough time to hang in the air before she’s elaborating, arms crossed over her chest as she leans against the door.        ❛   after that fight, and what happened to miguel....   ❜        words trail off as she shakes her head, gaze stuck on her ratty high-tops, fingernails pressing against skin as she inhales, de-flexing as she exhales.        ❛   my abuela doesn’t want me in cobra kai right now, and seeing how she’s the only reason I was able to leave ohio in the first place, I can’t really go against her.   ❜        there’s a small pause as her gaze finds his.        ❛   did your parents not freak out?   ❜

that much is the truth. liliana martinez is a woman who doesn’t hide her emotions for anyone or for any reason, and jordan knows she’s never seen her abuela look more scared and disappointed than when she was picking jordan up from school on day one early after being called personally by the principal. but this next part?        ❛   I miss it. a lot. I want to come back, but I can’t. not right now; maybe after things have died down, but right now it’s too fresh.   ❜

see, this is why you have to keep searching. gotta be you. see, this is a set-up, and you've been suspicious all along, you aren't like those other sheep, oh no, oh fuck no. you fight monsters to find the answers. the only way out is through. and you will never stop being angry about it. somebody has to. it's you. it always was.
