i've seen some people online saying that they don't like margo's got money troubles because they're tired of plotlines where characters who get unexpectedly pregnant decide to keep the baby, and it's true that i think there should be plenty of stories where characters get an abortion and that's fine, but also i've read the book and it's very much interested in exploring how margo really DOES love her son and is a good mom to him, but she becomes more aware over the course of the story that one of the reasons she had the baby in the first place was the societal message that not having an abortion was the right thing to do and that everything would work out okay somehow, and her growing understanding that in reality many people are very hostile to young single mothers and our society really shames them for their decision to have a child and doesn't properly support them. it's very much what the book is interested in talking about!
