If you'll pardon my intrusion (after having poked around a bit through your blog), wrt the Deadly Six being representative of the Seven Deadly Sins: I see it as them being combinations of the Sins.
Zomom being Gluttonous is a given, but I also would tack him under Greed-- even if only for the platform for the initial miniboss fight with him, with that giant, almost bejeweled-looking face.
Zeena is, to me, a combo of Pride and Sloth, only able to be moved into action after some rather honeyed words from Zavok.
Zor is a combo of Sloth (in the definitions penned by St. Tomas Aquinas, Sloth is defined as "sorrow about spiritual good"; later additions would also lump in Tristita, or "despair") and Wrath (thus why in the IDW run, he's far more sadistic in how he goes about dispatching people).
Zazz is a combo of Wrath and Lust-- more specifically, bloodlust. Maiming people seems to be the only way he can truly be contented... even if only briefly.
Zik is a bit harder to place. Pride is certainly there, but I can see Envy as being the secondary? Maybe that purely subjective (as if this whole ramble isn't), but all things considered, he's lived long enough that his pride is deserved.
And to round things off, Zavok is Pride and likely a very controlled combination of Greed and Wrath-- as is the case with many a warlord archetype.
Anyways! Those are my thoughts from an outsider/newcomer looking in, I'd love to see Zeti culture/how the Zeti may have affected the world in the past explored someway, somehow ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ
Oh, thank you so much for taking the time to write me something so detailed! (⁀ᗜ⁀)づ
I loved reading your interpretation, because I honestly agree that the Deadly Six work better as combinations of sins rather than one-to-one representations. It's exactly that mix that makes them so chaotic and interesting.
🧡What you say about Zomom feels spot on: gluttony is obvious, but that touch of greed fits perfectly with his miniboss behavior. That "exaggerated" design always gave me the vibe that he believes he deserves more than he has. I think he fits: Gluttony + Defensive Wrath + Insecurity. Gluttony works as a mask: when he eats, he doesn't think; when he fights, he's just compensating for his fear of being the most manipulable.
💚Zeena as pride + sloth also clicks for me. She only moves when someone strokes her ego just right, and the way Zavok manipulates her with sweet words says so much about her character. It's an elegant sloth, almost narcissistic. I feel like lust fits her too, with her "I'm hot and I know it" attitude, haha.
💜Zor is one of the most interesting because he's not just "lazy": his apathy, mixed with despair, poetic melancholy, reluctance, and quiet wrath fits perfectly with what you pointed out. In IDW, they took him down that more sadistic path, and it suits him surprisingly well.
💖(Couldn't find another pink heart for him 🥹) With Zazz, you made me laugh because, just like you said, he's not just wrath: he's pure thirst for violence. That take on wrath + lust (as bloodlust) feels brutally spot on. His chaotic energy is constantly seeking intensity, beyond simple anger.
💙And Master Zik… seriously, thanks for bringing him up because I always feel like people overlook him. He works great as pride, but your idea of envy as a secondary trait was intriguing. Elderly characters with long lives tend to have more complex layers, and he's clearly the root of the others' personalities. He could be: Pride + Greed for legacy + Control. His greed isn't for goods, but for influence and continuity.
❤And Zavok… uff. Totally agree there: pride, yes, but mixed with a cold, calculated ambition that brushes against greed and restrained wrath. He's that leader archetype who regulates his emotions not out of sensibility, but because he knows when to unleash them... strategically.
I loved your read because it opens up so many possibilities for interpreting the Zeti from a cultural standpoint. It'd be amazing to see explored what part of those "combined sins" comes from their history, society, or how their species survived so long. I also wonder how much they influenced Mobius in the past, before getting isolated in Lost Hex.
There's a whole hidden world there that I hope SEGA decides to show us someday. I swear, if I had the resources, time, and a team, I'd ask SEGA for permission to make them a series about this quirky bunch.
Haha, and considering the "Zavok in everything" meme, SEGA basically doesn't care if he shows up in any media. It's not like Shadow, who's super protected. So it'd be perfect to take advantage and give them their moment to shine.
Thanks again for writing. You made my night :D 🌻
