CURRENT OBSESSION: This bizarre Spanish gnome cartoon from the 80's.
"The Wisdom of the Gnomes"
Opening theme song (must watch):
How Dance Dance Revolution started me down a rhythm game rabbit hole, and a fitness journey.
Last year a fateful moment occurred. Two of my favorite hobbies, thrifting, and retro gaming coincided. While at my local thrift store something caught my eye, a plastic mat with a PlayStation 2 cable attached to it. It was exactly what I thought it was, a dance dance revolution dance pad in good condition! For $8 I knew I had to take it home, since we had a working PS2 at home anyway.
I quickly ordered a $10 copy of DDR Extreme off of eBay and a week later I was awkwardly stepping around in my bedroom. Soon however I was really having fun, learning the tracks and honing my technique. The built in fitness mode even let me track my calories burned and songs played to track my progress.
The truth is the game Is a ton of fun, but my biggest hurdle was my own stamina. I became frustrated, I found a new game I loved to play but my body couldn't keep up with my desire to get that perfect combo and keep going for hours. Slowly, I was able to play for longer and longer. I could pull off more jumping combos, and I could feel myself improving.
Suddenly I was in a new situation, exercising was a highlight of my day. Eventually I became bored of the limited ps2 tracklist and the slippery soft mat. I wanted more, I needed more.
Fast forward to today, I have my PC equipped with a Stepmania tracklist with hundreds of songs to pick from and a custom made arcade quality L-Tek Dance pad. I'm in considerably better health than I used to be too. Diet and exercise have become a crucial part of my life.
Sure DDR isn't my only source of exercise anymore but when the weather outside is frightful and my exercise bike doesn't seem too delightful, I still put up my ponytail and crush a perfect combo of the 1995 hit "Be my Lover" by La Bouche.
That old dance pad and copy of DDR Extreme now belong to my boyfriend's younger sibling. They use it pretty often and enthuse to me about how fun it makes exercise.
It's my opinion that affordable and accessible rhythm games, can be a real fitness lifeline for gamers and homebodies. Being active can and should be fun!
So don't be shy! Dance like nobody's watching!
A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood (2019)
So I finally got around to watching Marielle Heller's film about Mr. Rogers, and I'm so glad I finally made a point to watch it.
Tom Hanks did an excellent job as always. His portrayal of Fred Rogers was masterful, down to the posture and smallest nonverbal gestures of the man so many of us grew up learning from.
The film, like Roger's Television series doesn't shy away from heavy subject matter such as death, illness, and abandonment. Likewise, the movie tries to impart values and lessons about humility and kindness that aren't just for children, but also for the adults who once too were children themselves.
it's a story of humanity, of how kindness can change the world, and ultimately of how to forgive not just those who've harmed you, but how to forgive yourself.
8.5/10 I thought it was a great movie with some small pacing issues. I could go on too long about the little details like the exterior shots all being miniatures like the Mr. Rogers neighborhood TV show.
It's a big recommendation from me! Grab some tissues and give it a watch. Your inner child will thank you.
Memories of baby Groose. Now he's a big grumpy Garfield. 🐱
🦖Dinosaur Ridge in Golden was a great time! It was a gorgeous day to get up high and look around. Seeing all the dinosaur bones and tracks was really cool too but I won't spoil them, pictures don't do it justice. 🦕
There's so much I want to see this summer, hopefully I can get to Acadia again soon too!
I'm just a tree 💅
POV Just got my new everdrive. Really having fun playing a bunch of retro games atm.
Yoshi's Island or Yoshi's Story?

Every now and then I think about this crusty video from the 00's of Shadow the hedgehog, and the other sonic characters as real people in mascot suits breaking it down and twerking to apple bottom jeans.
I can't believe this was broadcast on television. Thank goodness for media preservation.
Getting an indoor hammock has changed my life. 10/10
My Kim Wexler inspired half orc paladin. It's hilarious to me that because she's a paladin she's versed in justice and lawyers everyone she meets.
