A kitten’s nightmare of two dogs. From Three Little Kittens, written and illustrated by Katherine Pyle, 1920.
I find it mindboggling how many English “radfems” have literally bought, hook line and sinker, the notion that Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party more generally are anti-semites.
How stupid do you have to be to believe this? It flies in the face of literally every single fact about Corbyn himself, and more generally about the party and/or Labour supporters.
There are “radical” women in the United States who have bought, with zero thought apparently, the weird narratives around Bernie Sanders and his supporters too, so I’m not profoundly shocked, but unfollowing all the idiot British “radical” women on twitter was one of my better decisions because what a bunch of fools they are. It’s just depressingly obvious that most women who call themselves “radical” are no such thing, and are only focused on what they are told and obediently believing in it and parroting it back, just like their genderist arch-nemisises (nemisi?) do. Ain’t none of you different in the end.
“Corbyn has been one of the most outspoken and visible anti-racism campaigners in parliament for decades. In fact, it is his long-standing vocal support for oppressed ethnic and national minorities that lies at the root of the current antisemitism “crisis” in his own party.
The Labour leader has been a leading champion of the Palestinian cause, demanding that Israel end more than half a century of belligerent occupation that has oppressed Palestinians and is in clear breach of international law.
His activism long ago made him unpopular among many fellow MPs in his party, Jews and non-Jews alike, who are members of the Labour Friends of Israel (LFI) lobby. They have thrown their support fully behind Israel. LFI is one of the many organisations that connects the Labour party to Israel. All are anachronistic – remnants of a time when the British left treated Israel as nothing other than a sanctuary for Jews fleeing a long history of persecution in Europe.
But these Labour lobby groups reflected too a lingering European racism only too willing to overlook the legacy of Israel’s creation – the mass suffering of Palestinians ruled over by an unaccountable, brutal Israeli army.
It was Palestinians, not Europeans, who were made to atone for Europe’s racism towards the Jewish people. Corbyn acknowledges that historical fact. Most of his parliamentary colleagues refuse to do so. Some may even unconsciously resent him for highlighting their own hypocrisy and unthinking racism towards Palestinians.”
Antisemitism claims have one goal: To stop Jeremy Corbyn winning power
It BOGGLES MY MIND too. And yes, it is creepily similar to the behaviour of transactivists who smear feminists for saying things they don’t like. I’m very confused by Julie Bindel’s position on this who says she’s voting Labour but continues to smear Corbyn for acclaimed anti-semitism. Sian Steans made an excellent point that there won’t *be* an NHS providing free sex-specific healthcare such as abortions, contraception etc to women if the Tories retain power, so all those ‘GC’ women refusing to vote Labour bc of this issue are shooting themselves (and most women in the UK) in the foot. So much for sisterhood!! Honestly I’m so sick of it. Yes Labour aren’t perfect, no political party is, but their proposed policies, eg providing council housing for single mums, compensating WASPI women and paid leave for DV survivors, have the potential to change women’s lives for the better unlike the Tories who continue to wreck lives and dignity through racist misogynist austerity.
Every time I see a new article about this anti semitism issue within labour, I look for the actual examples that should be given (one would think!!) and they’re never fucking there??? Like am I missing something?
Also, apparently the chief rabbi who said that Corbyn’s party is anti Semitic has close ties with Boris Johnson… interesting…
It’s actual racists calling avowed anti-racists racist with absolutely no evidence…and people are lapping it up.
Labour aren’t doing women any favours and I’m done with being grateful for crumbs.
The anti-Semitism is partly linked to Muslim Labour voters/members/politicians. Labour failed to deal with grooming gangs, Labour failed to deal with voter fraud and the Tower Hamlets fiefdom, and it’s not because Labour are a fundamentally anti-Semitic party, it’s because Labour don’t want to risk the Muslim block vote. The issue with multiculturalism (as opposed to genuine equality) is that by adopting a relativistic view, Labour (and the UK establishment as a whole) never commit to feminist values that might upset religious men! It’s all wishy-washy and interpreted by different people in different ways. Corbyn has tried this approach on Brexit too, he’s admitted he’d have a second referendum but wouldn’t campaign for either option.
It doesn’t work with binary questions like Brexit, it doesn’t work with issues like are men women if they say they are, it is just cheap politicking.
This doesn’t help Muslim, ex-Muslim, or any other women at all. It’s patronising and lazy. Labour MPs like Ann Cryer who tried to help women and girls were ignored and sidelined. Sarah Champion was forced out of the Shadow Cabinet.
We are in a situation where every party option is genuinely shit. There’s no good option for women, we’re stuck with deciding who is least worst or spoiling our ballots.
If you think labour are ‘just as bad’ as the tories you’re a fucking idiot. It’s this useless mindset that allowed Trump and Johnson in in the first place.
I didn’t say that, don’t insult me because you can’t be bothered to read.
I’m an ex Labour member and I’m allowed to be fed up with Labour. I don’t have to be grateful for them just for being less shit than other parties. I want Labour to stand up for women.
Guilting me into voting Labour because the Tories are worse? That means I am accepting Liam Madigan, TWAW, and the destruction of women’s rights by gutting the Equality Act.
I’m allowed to be pissed off with the current situation.
You’re allowed to be pissed off but if you don’t vote labour you are voting tory. There’s no two ways about it. Liam Madigan isn’t even on my radar when the NHS is at risk, when poverty is through the roof, when children are growing up with their entire family in one room in a converted office block where they’ve been put by the council. Pull your head out of your fuckin arse.
Women who call themselves radfems but are solely focused on the trans shit honestly blow my mind.
There are more than two ways about it, you have no idea what my constituency is like.
Also this is literally guilting women into voting Labour. We should be able to ask for more from the Labour party. I hate the idea that they can treat us like shit and still rely on women’s votes. At the very least we should be demanding a voice.
This line of thinking is what gets self-id in through the back door. We don’t dare withhold our votes so Labour argue we agree that self-id can be written into law and voila! companies decide to argue maternity leave is no longer necessary because not all women can get pregnant. Sex discrimination cases collapse in tribunals across the country. You must not realise how important the legal status of women is.
I am allowed to be pissed off that the party that is supposed to give a shit about feminist issues, doesn’t. You think I need to suck it up and shut up, that’s your opinion.
Those other issues are important. I’m not discussing them. I’m not suggesting you go off and join Boris in dismantling the NHS. I’m just saying I have a right to be angry with Labour and I have a right to voice my opinion. When is a good time to tell the party what I think, if not now?
Of course you can feel how you like about Labour however to claim that they’re not standing up for women is blatantly untrue, and this is actually the worst time to be saying that given that there’s a general election in two weeks’ time. Yes the legal status of women is important but more so is our financial security and livelihoods. 21% of women live in poverty in the UK. Women across the country are being done over by the inhumane and inefficient universal credit system with some having to turn to the sex industry to survive because of payment delays. Labour is pledging to replace UC. They’re also pledging fully-funded sexual health services, the introduction of a National Care Service (who’s most likely to be providing domestic care to their friends/relatives for no remuneration?), free early years provision and the building of 150,000 new council houses annually. All of these and more will positively affect tens of thousands of women including those in your constituency.
Sorry but such policies only look like ‘crumbs’ to those who are lucky enough to not to have to deal with day to day in-work poverty which women and their families are subject to because of Tory cuts and general savagery.
http://wbg.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/FINAL-Female-Face-of-Poverty.pdf
The “crumbs” are in reference to feminist policies not general economic policies.
Why is election time a bad time to discuss this? At what other time will Labour be more receptive? Why do I have to keep quiet?
Affordable housing, universal healthcare and ending poverty all by default feminist policies because they are all feminist issues. You can’t separate one from the other.

Writing this dispatch from Bolivia, the conflict here is spiraling out of control and I fear it will only get worse... I am writing from Bolivia just days after witnessing the November 19 military massacre at the Senkata gas plant in the indigenous city of El Alto, and the tear-gassing of a peaceful funeral procession on November 21 to commemorate the dead. These are examples, unfortunately, of the modus operandi of the de facto government that seized control in a coup that forced Evo Morales out of power.
Upon taking power, Áñez's government threatened to arrest MAS legislators, accusing them of "subversion and sedition," despite the fact that this party holds a majority in both chambers of congress. The de facto government then received international condemnation after issuing a decree granting immunity to the military in its efforts to reestablish order and stability. This decree has been described as a "license to kill" and "carte blanche" to repress, and it has been strongly criticized by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.
The result of this decree has been death, repression and massive violations of human rights. In the week and a half since the coup, 32 people have died in protests, with more than 700 wounded. This conflict is spiraling out of control and I fear it will only get worse. Rumors abound on social media of military and police units refusing the de facto government's orders to repress. It is not hyperbole to suggest that this could result in a civil war. That's why so many Bolivians are desperately calling for international help. "The military has guns and a license to kill; we have nothing," cried a mother whose son had just been shot in Senkata. "Please, tell the international community to come here and stop this."

It is within the family that most men learn that women are there to serve them, whether as mother, wife, or daughter. Many women have questioned how men can discriminate against women when they have mothers, wives, and daughters. In fact, it is in just these intimate relationships that men have the greatest interest in maintaining male domination. And it is through these relationships that people learn the social reality that women are second-class citizens.

[I.D. We stood on the hill and my mother said,’This world is full of sin.’ We stood on the hill and my mother said, ‘You can change the world.’ End I.D.]
A big difference between the 80s and now, is that in the 80s, you were more likely to be able to support yourself in a female-traditional industry. Teachers and secretaries were more likely to be self-supporting. Even waitresses were more likely to be self-supporting than they are now.
My mom just needed *a job* to leave my dad, and lots of jobs qualified. There was still lots of medium skill work that wasn't in degreed professions, and lots of it was female-dominated (how many professional secretaries exist anymore, relative to the 80s?).
She didn't need to go back to school and put in 3 years of unpaid work just to make any living wage at all. She didn't need to become a graduate-degreed professional just to be able to end her marriage. She just needed *A* JOB. You needed to make more than minimum wage to be on your own, but not as much more as you do now. And people who did make minimum wage sometimes lived with roommates. Many of my older friends left home while working minimum wage jobs, something that just was not possible for my age group.
Whereas now many women are either in an appeasement dynamic with men in their lives that they depend on, or in an appeasement dynamic with the male-dominated professions they're in.
So much has gotten better but tbh so much has also gotten worse.
