"My first kiss was when I was five."
James said the words completely out of the blue, making Regulus jump a bit as the two of them sat together on the dock by the lake, leaning into each others' bodies.
"O...kay?" Regulus responded, furrowing his eyebrows, trying to decide what Potter's angle was.
"Mmm. I went to Muggle school for a while, you know? I was in the schoolyard and this girl pulled me behind the slide and-" James made a loud, smacking kissing noise, pressing his fingertips together to make his point. Then he grinned. "I ran away screaming."
He blinked, trying to decide if this was funny or traumatic.
"Of course, I've been with other people, too. Evans, obviously. Kissed McKinnon and Prewett. Even kissed Sirius once, on a dare. Had a fling with MacDonald for a minute in third year. Oh, and-"
"Why're you telling me this, James?" Regulus gritted out, getting annoyed now.
The older boy's eyes widened behind his glasses. "Oh. I mean...we're dating now, right? We're supposed to...know about these things? Be honest? I figured.."
The bubbling anger in Regulus's chest vanished, replaced with wonder. They'd never said those words out loud before, so hearing it made him a little giddy. "Oh."
"Yeah."
James didn't push. There was no expectation for reciprocation, yet Regulus wanted to share, as well. But the truth was embarrassing.
It took him a fair few moments to find the words.
"My first kiss was you."
At first, Regulus didn't risk a glance. He stared stubbornly out onto the water, waiting for an answer, slightly mortified. But when James said nothing, he looked over.
The older boy was grinning widely, looking ridiculously chuffed.
Flushing, Regulus scoffed. "You could look less pleased," he muttered, rolling his eyes and crossing his arms.
"I didn't say anything," James beamed, chuckling. "I wouldn't dare."
"Thought so."
