Can I yap about why what they did choose to show kind of rubbed me the wrong way? I'm gonna throw it under a cut because HSF spoilers.

Like Tori throws that line out and sort of rolls her eyes and not only did it sort of feel belittling to Michael, it also kind of erased his pansexuality? Like, because there's no mention of them having sex/no kisses/nothing to indicate he's sexually attracted to her, it's kind of implied that he is gay. And anyone who has only interacted with the TV show/film might come to that conclusion. Which, fine, whatever, but a show that spends an awful lot of time showing Nick "I'm bi actually" Nelson dealing with people getting his sexuality wrong, it would've been nice, to have something that celebrated his sexuality other than his asexual partner making an off-hand sarcastic comment about Pedro Pascal.

Am I the only person who kind of feels guilt for not liking Heartstopper? Especially since Oseman is one of my favorite authors?

I’ve tried! I read the first four volumes (because those are the ones I own), I joined the fandom, I read all the Q&As!

But it just feels like it lacks a certain heart (pun intended)? Especially when compared to her other books. I felt more during Aled insulting Frances or Michael and Tori at the school during the snow than anything in Heartstopper.

It just feels shallow. Nick and Charlie are the most wholesome gay couple and they’re “Nick and Charlie”. Am I wrong for feeling like they’d break up soon after the Epilogue? It’s not like I believe gay romance has to be angsty but I don’t know.

I’m genuinely asking someone to explain why I might feel this way. Should I just reread the series with a highlighter and a pen? Maybe I’m missing something.

I think it’s because it’s a comic instead of a book so the format that these stories and events are told in are much, MUCH shorter. I never found any of the comic storylines particularly gripping the way I did Solitaire or Radio Silence- these events had time to develop and unravel, but with heartstopper it feels so underdeveloped. This comic format is another reason I find Nick and Charlie so flat as characters- it’s not the same insight into their psyches like with Frances and Tori in their books.

I 100% agree that they’d break up after the epilogue they’re so codependent it’s concerning 😭

You can’t force me to like Alisha/Simon.

I will concede and say that if you watch certain scenes in the lense of them being platonic, they look cute together. Would probably like it even more (would absolutely love it actually) if they kept Alisha’s personality from before she gets in a relationship. I think there’s something sweet about her snipping at Simon while she takes care of his hand.

Don’t bring up future Simon around here. It’s no safe space for him. Present Simon is alright tho, he’s a sweet little cutie pie (a morally grey pervert with homicidal (and homosexual lol) tendencies that he justifies as being for the greater good). Absolutely adorable. Just look at those big blue eyes.
