It's not like there doesn't exist a small and uninfluential group of people who, maybe a few years ago, could have been in good faith called "tankies", but at this point in the political climate seeing someone use that word without a winemom heavy pour of irony immediately relegates them to the Opinion Discard Pile. It's a nearly guaranteed indicator for terrible politics and general willful ignorance. Frankly I hope people keep using it so I can continue to filter them out. Aposematism for political rubes.

I just cannot stress enough how little I give a shit about whatever counterexamples some of you are throwing out as to who still deserves to be called a tankie. Not only because the examples are mostly wrong, but also even if they were right it doesn't even matter because there's a bottomless chasm of dullards online who will call you a tankie if you so much as express doubt that the USA should bomb its enemy-of-the-month into glass.

It's the word that center-right Redditors and Twitter globe emojis use because they realized it's gauche to say "commie" like they really want to, because it makes them sound too much like the Fox News viewers two degrees to their right. Give it up already. Accept it. It's dead.
