Poked myself with a needle today.
It was clean I had trouble getting the cap off and it poked me
So no worry about disease or infection really. But boy did it bleed

There's an intersex kitty at the shelter I volunteer at right now.
Externally the cat is a little ambiguous but pretty much everyone would label the cat that as female
However when the kitty went to get spayed there was no uterus to be found but there were internal testicles
This kitty also had some urinary issues which is not surprising because their plumbing was a little bit off
However they did eventually get adopted
Surrendering an animal to a shelter does not make you a bad person
There are literally endless reasons why someone may surrender their animal
And even if the reason is just I don't want to have an animal right now they are not a bad person
Because every person who brings an animal to a shelter and surrenders it brought that animal somewhere where they would be safe and taking care of
Somewhere where their medical needs will be looked after and they have the best chance that a good life
Life is messy and it's always better for an animal to be loved and cared for
It is sad when someone who does not want to surrender an animal feels they have to for whatever reason and I know that the shelter I've volunteered does everything they can to try to keep animals in their families if they are still wanted and loved
But if someone is moving and can't take the animal
If the animal is a danger to their family
If they've developed an allergy
If someone is sick and they have to take care of that person
All of these are valid reasons that someone might not be able to take care of an animal
I will never look down on someone who surrenders an animal life is messy but they're doing the best they can

I keep using the phrase "yeet that ute" instead of saying spay at the shelter where I volunteer and all the older vets and vet tech cannot get enough of it

Meet Pickles, aka “Catosaurus.” He was rescued in Boston and he’s over 3 feet long.

Is it true that ginger tabbies are more docile on average and is there a genetic/biological reason for that?
Truthfully... no. It’s more that humans perceive x-color to act like y and approach the animal from the beginning expecting and even encouraging y.
Torties/calicos are extremely beautiful, and people tolerate behaviours from beautiful animals they wouldn’t from more common ones. This is why torties/calicos have a reputation for ‘tortitude’- behaviour that would be corrected or trained out of a brown tabby is allowed to continue because “lol, calicos are always spicy”.
People expect the orange boys in particular to be extremely sweet and calm... so they approach calmer and encourage calmer behaviour. Does this mean it always results in a calm animal? no. But you’re more likely to get one that is calm if calm behaviour is what is rewarded.
My Sundew has his hyper moments, but he’s mostly calm and sweet. This is not because he’s orange. This is because, and keep in mind I love this cat with all my heart, incredibly stupid. He’s also not dumb due to being orange. He just happened to fit into a stereotype and bright orange is more memorable than brown tabby or all black.
But it’s a lot of fun to joke about orange boy cats all sharing the same braincell as it lets us show off our orange boys who DO actually share only one braincell.
This is hands down the best tik tok ever made.

A universal experience.
Me, watching live surgery happen in front of me: fine
Me, watching dissection videos: almost vomiting.
Me: *walks into shelter hallway and hears a ton of birds*
Me: So this week's hoarder was birds huh?
