Eyeless Jack x Reader Pt. 7 - My name is Jack
~A/N: This chapter came out much faster than I thought it would. Thank you to all of those who are reading this story! It means a lot :)~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I'm going to help you kill Jeremy." The intruder stated.
He put his backpack on the floor, searching through it to find something.
"Help me kill Jeremy?" You were more than confused. You hadn't told a soul about your new-found violent cravings.
"Yup." He gave you a short answer, not even looking up at you as he rummaged.
"How did you- I was never going to actually do it." You exhaled.
The man put something in the pocket of his hoodie, but he was too quick for you to see what it was.
"Oh, but you were. I've been following you for weeks now. I need you to kill Jeremy." His voice was flat but stern, remaining very clear with what he needed to say.
HE needs YOU to kill Jeremy.
"Weeks?! You've been following me for WEEKS? Who even are you? How did you get into my house? I don't even know who you are!" It felt like you were close to crashing out, if not already. "Were you the one who carved that-that- symbol on my door?!" You voice was getting louder and shakier.
He sat down on the couch next to you with caution. While you felt full of stress and fear, he stayed the same. There was no sign of him possibly lashing out of you.
The room was silent for a moment. You began to observe the man. He seemed cleaner than those times you had run into him before. He didn't even smell like blood. You even took a mental note of how patient he was being with you.
Great. A polite stalker. How lucky of me.
"You need to cool down if you want any answers." His voice unchanging. You really liked how he sounded.
"Fine. I'll 'cool down.'" You put up air quotes, giving in to being told what to do.
He leaned back against the pillow and took his leather gloves off. You looked closer at his hands and noticed two things; His skin was... grey? And there was a small scar that ran across the knuckle of his pointer finger, seemingly where you bit him initially. You felt proud of yourself for that one. He reached under his mask to rub his face, trying to regain the strength to speak. He seemed exhausted already. Then, he shoved his hand back into his pocket and began.
"My name is Jack. And no, I'm not the one who carved the proxy symbol into your door, but we need to find out who did."
You adjusted your position on the couch, fully facing him now.
"Okay, Jack. My name is Y/n. What's with the mask?" You pried.
"I know." Okay fuck you, I guess. "And the mask is to hide my face."
"That's it?"
"Yup."
"Can I see your face?"
"Nope."
Well, you tried. Onto the next question.
"What did you call that symbol again?"
"The proxy symbol."
"So, what does it mean?"
"You'll learn soon enough."
You scoffed at his answer. Holy shit this man was impossible. How where you supposed to get answers from communication like this?
He noticed you getting frustrated. After all, it wasn't fair the way he spoke to you. With everything going you deserved the truth. And the truth is what was going to keep you alive the longest.
You stared at him like a hungry wolf waiting to make a move. In front of you sat a man with grey skin who had been stalking you for who knows how long, twiddling his thumbs with something in his pocket and acting obnoxiously vague.
Little did you know, he could sense everything you were feeling and thinking. In reality, he was more like the wolf, and you? By the end of tonight you would either be joining his pack or becoming his prey.
"Okay, Y/n, listen." He turned to face you, mirroring your body language.
"If I don't help you kill Jeremy, someone else is going to make me kill you. But I don't want that to happen, got it? You seem like you could be a very valuable resource to my team, and I'd rather not lose you."
He had your full attention.
"The catch is, you have to execute this plan in such a way where his organs remain intact. I'm going to need those sooner than later."
Your jaw dropped. Keep his organs intact? What the hell was this Jack guy on about?!
You were going to need some time to think long and hard about this.
Is this really happening? Do I have to- do I actually get to kill Jeremy? How can I trust Jack? I should learn more about him before anything else. It doesn't sound like I have much of a choice if I don't want to end up killed. It's not like I have anything else left; I live to work and that's it. What does he mean by "You could be a very valuable resource to my team?" It should be easy to keep Jeremy's organs together... wait am I getting entangled with black market organ harvesting?
"I'm going to give you a moment to think your feelings through. I'll be sitting on the porch keeping watch." Jack spoke up.
Your eyes followed him as he made his way to the door, about to turn the handle.
"Hey, Jack?" You caught him off guard. His head turned in your direction.
"What's in your pocket?" You sounded softer, like you were starting to tire out.
"This." He reached in and pulled out a scalpel. It shined under the dim light above him as you watched. Behind his mask there was a small smile forming on his lips, but you couldn't tell.
As fast as he pulled his blade out, he put it right back into his pocket and stepped out to brace the cool night.
He left his backpack inside.
Eyeless Jack x Reader Pt. 6 - The Symbol
The day couldn't go by any slower if you asked it to. It didn't help that you had to stay an extra 30 minutes past your shift with how much work there was to catch up on. There was one moment closer to the end of the day where you swore you saw a dark figure outside looking in through the window, but with everything else you had to do, you pushed it to the back of your mind. In all honesty, you were very heavily focused on your flourishing hostility towards Jeremy. Just imagining him made your adrenaline spike and muscle shake. You lost count of how much water you drank trying to cool yourself down with this sensation.
As you walked to your car, a seemingly fresh boot print presented itself in the mud just next to the driver's door. No other vehicles were parked around yours as the day was severely understaffed. Your interest was piqued, but as you opened the door to get in, your attention went right back to Jeremy and everything you wanted to do to him. You completely forgot the boot print just as you had forgotten the dark figure from earlier.
He's a waste of space anyways. It's not like anyone cares about him. How many women has he sexually harassed now? Probably everyone in town. What a fucking slob. On top of that, he abuses and abandons his pets. I'm sure no one would miss him if he were gone... Is that too far? What if I just scare him? I could treat him just how he treated his dog, see how HE likes it. I'll just fuck up his leg and let him bleed out. That seems easy enough. What is he is planning to do the same to me?
Ripping yourself out of your psychotic daze, you popped a CD into the disk drive and headed home. You shivered a bit. What were you even thinking?! The paranoia was definitely getting to you.
You practiced some breathing exercises to lower your blood pressure and calmly began backing out of your parking space.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your car rolled to a stop as you approached your home. The moment you turned the engine off, something felt wrong. The music ending didn't help the sense as you succumbed to silence. Right as you looked out the window, you noticed the bush by your front porch. It rustled quite a bit, like there was something, or someone inside. Scanning around the rest of your yard, it seemed there were no signs of gusts wind or wild animals. What is up with that bush? Maybe it was from all the coffee you drank, or maybe everything that had happened recently, but at this point it felt like you just couldn't catch a break. You must be going crazy or something.
Whatever.
You grabbed your stuff, exited the car and cautiously made your way to the cabin. There wasn't even a bird chirping off in the distance.
This whole Jeremy-situation had you seriously messed up.
Attempting to think of relaxing things, you paused to glance up. The sky was full of beautiful hues of pink and orange as the sun started to set. How serene... A couple fireflies light up by the edge of the forest signaling dusk was approaching. Your onset of unease lifted as you allowed yourself to sense that you were finally safe at home.
Your footsteps clicked a bit as you walked, echoing slightly against the wood. The air was crisp but not cold and crickets began to faintly make their presence known. Just how you liked it. The bush had even stopped moving. How... great?
You took your final step up the short stairs, reached for the doorknob, and halted.
You dropped everything.
Those feelings that were seemingly washed away by the sunset? Gone.
Someone had carved a massive circle with an X through it right into the wooden door.
It was massive. Stretching from the hinges to the lock. Small globs of black goop dribbled around the doormat. Mud smeared over the ground as if someone was wiping their shoes off before going inside.
This has to be the job of Jeremy.
Once again, fire and fury erupted within you. All those thoughts you had earlier snapping back in your head. All you could see was red.
I swear to God I will fucking kill that man. Who the FUCK does he think he is?!
Your eyes remained wide as you recklessly grabbed the doorknob and tore the entrance to your home open.
It was unlocked.
In this fit of rage, you barely noticed the pair of gloved hands that reached out, throwing you inside.
You crashed into the wall as their grip loosened on you. The door shut quickly and you stumbled to find your footing. Your breath was rapid and sharp.
"Shit- I... I didn't mean to be so forceful." You recognized his voice... but it wasn't Jeremy's.
"Sorry... uh let me just..." He tried to place a hand on you to help but you stumbled away, woozy from the whiplash as you came back to reality.
You blinked your eyes a couple times to wake yourself up.
It's him!
The man from the gas station... the other one, the tall guy with the blue mask and the hoodie that smells like blood. He was standing inside your home. Ok this seriously has to be the same intruder from the other week.
"Who- FUCK!" Right as you tried to speak your skull seared in pain. You must have hit your head on the wall pretty bad.
The man took a heavy steady breath and carefully placed a hand on your shoulder. "You need to sit down-"
"I don't want to sit down- OUCH- Just- FUCK- who the fuck are you?!" You were completely unstable.
You held onto your head as you tried not to cry. How could you defend yourself in this state? You felt like a wounded rabid animal.
The man stood there awkwardly, assessing the situation. Without another word, he picked you up and carried you over to the couch. With how much your head was throbbing, you didn't even fight it. A single tear made its way out of your eye and before you knew it you were smoothly lowered on the couch.
For a guy breaking and entering, he was unusually... kind?
Eyeless Jack x reader part 6 is coming out later today! Also, I will be making minor edits to parts 4 and 5 soon (and maybe a few to part 3?). I will also be adding titles to each part/chapter :)
~Side note: This is most definitely an x-reader fic, but y/n is strongly/basically entirely based on my creepypasta OC. Maybe one day I'll post more about her but who knows.
Eyeless Jack x Reader Pt. 5 - Boiling Blood
~TW: mild mention/hint at animal abuse. Like it's mentioned but not explained in detail~
7:00 AM
The hospital was lively by the time you clocked in. While most mornings were more tranquil, today was not that day. Dogs were barking in every room, the lobby was packed, and you had just finished making a piping hot cup of coffee in the breakroom. With one quick sip you braced yourself for the day ahead of you and speed-walked straight for the ER.
"Y/n! Good to see you!" One of the technicians called from behind you.
You waved back at them but didn't stop moving until you reached your station.
"Better buckle up, we've got a crazy case coming in today." Meredith mumbled, flashing you a sarcastic smile.
"Oh no what is it?" Moaning in agony, you looked up at the patient board.
Baxter (Bensons) 6 years old - German Shephard mix - ADR, Laceration on left hind leg
The name didn't ring a bell, but before you could even ask, Meredith spoke.
"Baxter came in just the other month for a similar thing. He had a pretty deep cut on one of his front paws. The owner said that he 'stepped on glass' but when the doctor got a closer look, she noticed mild bruising all over the leg and no signs of glass anywhere in the paw." You took a deep breath in, not liking where this story was going.
"We had to prepare the dog for mild surgery and when Henry went to shave the leg to place the catheter, the skin was totally black and blue. The owner was a weird guy, he seemed mad at Baxter for being injured in the first place. We all suspected abuse but we never got enough evidence to write a report." Meredith finished.
It was always cases like that that made you question your career path, but remembering how good it felt to actually be able to do something good in moments such as now made it worth clocking in every day.
"Do we know when he'll get here?" You asked.
"No, but hopefully-"
"WE NEED A DOCTOR!" Someone shouted, diverting your attention straight to the door.
Two technicians, Henry and Molly, came running through with a large, shepherd-like dog in their arms. "He's losing a lot of blood you guys!" Henry alerted.
"He was on the floor of the lobby, unable to move. We think this is Baxter." Molly added.
That dog looked Bad. His breathing was rapid, cherry red blood pooled off of the exam table from his leg. He let out soft whines and whimpers. The veterinarian, Meredith, and a couple other technicians gathered around. They turned on the oxygen hose, applied pressure to the wound, and started taking all the necessary vitals.
"We need someone to triage the owner ASAP" The doctor called out.
"I'm on it!" You responded. Time to see what this shit-box of an owner looks like.
With your trusty notepad in hand, you jogged out to the lobby to find Mr. Benson.
Scanning the sea of people and pets waiting in uncomfortable chairs, you called out "Baxter Benson?" One man looked up.
One very bald, very sweaty looking, averaged height man.
Stupid. Fucking. Jeremy.
He was Baxter's owner. Of fucking-course he is.
It felt as though the world had stopped for a moment as Jeremy Benson sauntered his way over to you.
Is this even real right now?
Despite the fact that the frustrated look on his face made you want to slap him all over again, you knew this was no time to freak out. You were at work and had to remain professional. You sucked it up. "Follow me into an exam room, I've got a couple of questions to ask you." Flashing him a small and worried smile, you lead the way.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You learned quite a lot in that appointment. Such as Jeremy Benson hates his dog, he lets his dog run off leash in the forest surrounding town, and that he has 'no idea how' Baxter injures himself. The entire time Jeremy spoke, it was just as Meredith mentioned before. He sounded frustrated at the whole thing, like Baxter was a burden on him. You wondered why he even owned a dog in the first place. But then again, this was Jeremy. Nothing about that man made sense.
Having finished your notes, you reported back to the vet, Dr. Coy.
Baxter was going to need a major surgery to get his leg back to normal, and of course a big surgery like that costs a lot of money. Money that Jeremy most definitely did not have. Luckily the hospital had payment plans and possible discounts to help with those who couldn't afford the care their pets needed.
Dr. Coy had just left the emergency room to chat with Jeremy about the impending surgery. You sat and waited for her to come back, but she wasn't gone for long. Her face full of confusion as you watched her walk through the door.
"So, what's going to happen?" You sat up.
"Mr. Benson isn't there anymore." Dr. Coy said flatly.
Not there? "Wait what do you mean by that?"
"I mean that as in Mr. Benson fled the hospital and abandoned his dog with us." You could hear the disappointment in the vet's voice.
This was something that happened every once in a blue moon, an owner leaving their pet without warning. It hurt to see happen, but luckily there were solutions. Though the solutions didn't keep your blood from boiling.
Dr. Coy explained that Baxter would be transferred to a rescue that did surgeries on surrendered animals, so at least the poor dog would be okay. But what about Jeremy? You wouldn't just let him get away with it.
Eye for an eye motherfucker.
Eyeless Jack x Reader Pt 4 - The Mask
You put your beverage on the counter with some extra cash.
"$25 on pump 4." You weren't trying to be friendly.
Jeremy just stood there, staring back at you. You could smell his B.O radiating off of him like a skunked dog. A smirk came across his face.
He started; "I should'a tripped n fell onto you all those nights ago. Ha! Maybe we would'a been better friends by now, ya know?" He was trying to get a rise out of you. It wasn't working.
His demeanor remained the same. His stupid gross eyes and crusty smirk stayed plastered on his face until a tall shadow appeared behind you, casting the both of you into shade. Jeremy's look dropped. Not just from a lack of amusement, but with unease and discomfort. Something you thought the guy couldn't feel.
He gulped.
"Just put the money in for pump 4." You ordered the man, ignoring whatever the hell was going on with him.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever..." His voice got quiet.
You grabbed your drink and spun around, just about to march your way back to your car. However, you didn't realize just how close this shadow was standing behind you. You immediately walked face first into someone's chest. You inhaled, getting a whiff of the customer.
This hoodie smells faintly of iron...
"Woah-" A deep voice rumbled out of the person. They grabbed your upper arms to steady you.
You quickly jerked your head up, a small "Sorry!" escaped your lips. As your eyes adjusted, you found that you were face to face with a very tall man wearing a... a strange dark blue mask? It was pure black where the eyeholes should be, and it seemed that there was strange black tar dripping out of the sockets.
The substance was emanating a strange odor.
There's something familiar about that... Wait- was that the same substance that got on my teeth when I bit that guy? His hands still held onto your arms as you stood frozen.
Who- what- er... what were you looking at?
He seemed to be the same person who was standing over at the jerky earlier. The man wore an old black hoodie, thick gloves, dark denim jeans and some big old boots covered in mud. Just like the ones the intruder wore...
He even smelled similar.
A black backpack was slung over his shoulder. He looked strong and tired, like he was just getting out of a long day of work. This had to be him. You thought. But he didn't spark a feeling of fear in you like the other guy did earlier that week. Instead, you felt something else, though you weren't too sure what it was. Something was off.
The stranger took his hands off of your arms, waking you from your gaze. He moved his stare from you and looked straight ahead at Jeremy, walked right around you, and approached the counter without saying a word. You turned around to glance at him one more time before running out to the pump. You had absolutely no idea what to make of that situation.
"I'll see you later.... y/n..." Jeremy called just as the door closed behind you, stopping you in your tracks once more.
How the FUCK did Jeremy know my name?!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
With your credit card left at home, you decided to turn around and head back before going to the market. It was also a good place to recollect yourself after your encounter.
You sat in the car with the engine and radio off. It was completely silent as you sat there, still as a statue. Too many thoughts appeared in your head at once.
I need to stop going into that gas station... or maybe start going to another one. That HAS to be the guy from the stockroom, I'm sure of it. There are no other gas stations in this small fucking town. There has to be a reason that stranger smelled like blood... right? What was up with that mask? It's nowhere near Halloween. How on Earth does Jeremy know my name? HOW DOES HE KNOW MY NAME. I need to do something about that. Something bad... The way the masked man held my arms was kinda... nice? What the fuck kind of thought is that?!
Fuck I'm lonely...
Too much was going on at once, your mind short-circuited until you couldn't think of anything at all. You disassociated a bit. It felt somewhat nice.
A singular raindrop fell and hit the hood of your car, you barely noticed. Then, another raindrop. Then another, and another. More and more drops kept falling as the once sunny sky was now covered in thick and heavy storm clouds. You enjoyed the sound of the rain falling, but still you sat in the car, silent and thoughtless.
That is, until a clap of thunder shook your vehicle.
You jumped in your seat a bit, only now noticing just how strong the storm was. I forgot how bad the weather was in the springtime here.
Knowing you couldn't afford to wait a few more days without groceries, you scrambled inside for your card, made it back to the car, and sped towards town. By the time you were going to be back home for good, your whole driveway was going to be mud.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The sun was about to set as you sat on your couch sipping from a steaming mug of tea. The rain continued to pour over town. It was much more aggressive than the storm earlier that week. You didn't mind one bit. Your home was warm, the couch was comfy, and you had a horror movie playing on the small box tv in front of you. Something about the high-pitched frequency and mild static that sounded from the old television made you feel more relaxed, like you were a young child in simpler times.
Your eyes grew heavy from the long day, and you chose to not fight the urge to fall asleep right then and there. Besides, you had work early in the morning tomorrow so you would need all the rest you could get.
As you dozed off, a booming crash of thunder rang in the distance. It woke you up only for a second. A mental image of the stranger's mask flashed in your mind.
I just want to fucking sleep.
Eyeless Jack x Reader Pt 3 - Jeremy
Slowly but surely your mind stopped agonizing over the intruder in the stockroom. As the days went on, you had other things to focus on such as menial chores and work. Of course, you won't be able to fully forget being forcefully grabbed into a dark corner and biting down on a man's hand, but there had been no other signs of break-ins or danger at the hospital. The light in the back was even replaced just the day after. So, it was safe to say you felt... well... safe.
It was your day off and you had only one chore to do, grocery shop. It wasn't always the most exciting thing to do with your time, but you enjoyed the 25-minute drive into town and the full kitchen you had at the end of your trip. With your black boots and light jacket on, you started your car's engine, drove down the dirt driveway, and eventually reached the road.
Shit, I need to fill my tank... The thought popped into your head.
"Luckily, there should be a gas station around the corner." you muttered under your breath, a small smile forming on your lips as you proved yourself right and approached the station.
You parked at the pump, only to realize you forgot your credit card at home, which meant you had to pay in cash at the register inside, something you tried to avoid to the best of your ability.
A pit of anger and regret grew in your stomach. You reached into your purse, pulled out your trusty pepper spray, clipped it to the belt loop of your pants, and prepared for the worst.
Shit shit shit
Inside the gas station was a man, a very average height, smelly, balding man. His name was Jeremy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Years ago, when you first moved to town, you met Jeremy at a bar. He was very obviously drunk and talking louder than anyone else in the room. The second you noticed him, alarms went off in your head. Something about that man made you very uncomfortable. Lucky you, your intuition was (as it often is) correct. Jeremy had stood up from his bar seat, stumbling a bit with his steps, tripped over lord knows what, and caught himself by grabbing onto a random woman's tits. She was also drunk and sadly didn't think much of it. You watched carefully as she brushed it off as an actual accident. That is, until Jeremy did the exact same thing to another woman only a couple of minutes later. No one in the room seemed to pay any attention to what was happening. You couldn't tell if it was because everyone was fairly intoxicated or that this was a common occurrence. However, despite your observations, you figured you wouldn't ignore this man if he came near you.
Just his energy and actions alone made you want to finish your beer and get the hell out of there. But you also felt a strong sense of justice brewing inside that you couldn't ignore. You were deep in thought on what to do as you were taking your last few sips, when a certain sweaty, stinky, drunk man-child stumbled his way over to you.
"I d'know who youu aree..." Jeremy slurred, trying to lean against the bar top. You had one hand on your glass and the other in your coat pocket, gripping your pepper spray.
"No." You dismissed him. Your voice was full of disgust as you stared intensely at him.
If there was anything you weren't, it was subtle. You had hoped you could scare the guy away with just your looks.
"Whaaaat? C'mon I wuzjus tryin to *hic* be uhhh...frie-"
SMACK
An unstable excitement mixed with the want to fight took over you.
You slapped that motherfucker straight across the face without a moment to spare.
It seemed as though the entire room heard you strike him. Jeremy grabbed the side of his face, pitying himself. Your feelings that had just caused you to happily hit the man now turned to embarrassment. Your mind immediately changed, not wanting to have made a scene. Keeping your face deadpan, you took the change that was in your pocket, threw it on the counter, and walked straight out of that bar. You could hear him throwing an incoherent tantrum even with the door closed behind you.
Some fucking guy... You groaned internally.
Now, of course you thought that would be the only time you ever ran into Jeremy. Why would you ever run into him again? As far as you knew, he was some stupid bald loser who drank himself dirty every night and nothing more. However, this time you were wrong.
The next day you had to fill up your car's tank before work. You parked at the station and remembered you forgot your wallet at home, only leaving you with a $20 bill in your glove box for emergencies. You took the $20, stepped out of the car, walked to the door of the gas station, heard the -ding- of the bell, and were once again face to face with a man who looked disgustingly similar to the man you smacked the night before. As you stepped closer to the cash register you were able to get a better look, realizing it was indeed the man from last night, and on his name tag it said "Jeremy."
Stupid. Fucking. Jeremy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ever since then, whenever you had the unfortunate need to go into the gas station, Jeremy would be there. He always smirked at you and would say "You know I just wanted to be friends." And he always winked and he always spat a bit when he spoke.
Stupid. Fucking. Jeremy.
Now you've made it to the front door. Taking a deep breath in, you braced yourself for what would transpire next. Pushing the handle, the -ding- sounded, your eyes were met with Jeremy's, and he said his infamous line, "You know I just wanted to be friends." You watched with a blank face as a small drop of saliva flew from his mouth and landed on the countertop next to his hand. You gagged internally and silently took yourself over to the drink coolers, deciding you deserved a nice fun drink after dealing with this smelly, bald weirdo.
As you made your way down the aisle, a tall man stood, his back facing yours, looking at the rack of beef jerky sticks. Ew, you thought. Jerky sticks always grossed you out. The smell, the texture, all of it. Whatever. I'm here for my drink, not to judge other people for what they eat...
You reached the fridge with your beverage of choice, reaching for the can, when out of the corner of your eye, you thought you had recognized something, that man's shoes and pants look oddly similar to what the intruder was wearing...
You noticed muddy footsteps leading to where he stood. Those shoes must've been really dirty.
You couldn't help but stare at him. Feelings of crippling anxiety started to overtake you. Now is not the time to freak out. There are countless people in this town who wear thick and muddy boots.
Forcing yourself to shrug it off, you told yourself were paranoid. Your brain was just reminding you of what had happened since you were already on edge knowing who you had to deal with now that you got your drink.
Eyeless Jack x Reader - Pt.2 - Home
Before you made it back to the ER, you made a quick turn into the bathroom to catch your breath. You locked the door behind you and stared in the mirror. What was that taste in your mouth? Scared, you slowly parted your lips and leaned in to get a closer look. Not only could you taste blood and dirt from the man's gross glove, but a strange, black tar-like substance coated the very bottom of your canines, your teeth that broke his skin. It tasted like death.
You felt yourself start to gag, only to be followed by retching. Without any more warning, you spewed your guts all over the sink. Luckily you had barely eaten all night so there were no chunks to clog the drain, but still, the porcelain now reeked of bile. You turned the faucet on to help rinse it down. Tears welled up in your eyes as you tried to slow your breathing. Snot dripped from your nose and onto your lip. At this point you were a complete and total mess. You took one more glance in the mirror and that was all it took for you to lose control. A sob coughed its way out as your fell to the floor in a puddle of fear.
What the fuck what the fuck what the fuck what the fuck what the fuck
You rocked yourself back and forth. You felt dizzy.
You let yourself cry and shake on the dirty floor, but for only a few more minutes before you stood back up, splashed your face with water, popped a mint in your mouth, and reached for the door. In no way were you ready to go back out there, but the ER was busy tonight and they needed you. You had a cat with a broken leg to prepare for surgery and a collection of blood tests to run. You took a big breath in, exhaled, opened the door, and started back down the hall.
Just as you turned the corner, you had bumped into Meredith, one of the older technicians. She was a sweet older woman who had worked in the vet-med world for well over 20 years. Normally, her sweet smile and easy-going attitude would cheer you up, but in a time like this, it did quite the opposite.
"AHH!" You jumped back and screamed, startling Meredith as well.
Your face went pale as you made eye contact with her.
Her expression softened, but quickly grew to worry as she examined your face; "Y/n, are you okay? You look like you've seen a ghost!"
You could feel yourself about to cry again. "I- I... I don't-" You couldn't form a sentence.
Meredith slowly stepped forward, lightly touching your upper arm.
"Y/n, it's okay if you don't want to talk about it... Do you need to go home?"
Do you need to go home?
Those words came out like butter. Sweet and smooth, exactly what you needed to hear.
You sniffled back a booger and nodded your head, "Y-yes please." You felt pathetic. How would you be able to work the rest of the night like this? If another pet emergency came in, your mind would be completely overloaded with adrenaline, and not the good kind.
"Go to the breakroom, drink some water, and please drive safe. I'll let Lauren know you had to leave early." Meredith was so kind to you. A part of you felt guilty for leaving, especially on a busy night like tonight, but the ER was more than ready. A couple other technicians and assistants had been called in for back up, and if you were going to sit there in shock all night, you might as well not be there at all.
The drive home was silent. You didn't have the energy to put on your favorite playlist, or any playlist for that matter. All you could do was replay what happened in the stockroom over and over again. Why didn't you turn around to look at his face? Would he come back? What was he doing there in the first place? You looked up to try and find the moon, a soothing light in the sky. It was the best part about your drives home from the night shift. But of course, it was covered by a thick layer of storm cloud. You cursed to yourself, forgetting about the major thundershower rolling in.
1:00 am
Your car rolled slowly down the dirt driveway. Your home was a small cabin right at the edge of the town woods. You remembered when you had moved in a couple years ago that the locals warned you that the forest was haunted. But you chalked it up to them all being elderly and paranoid. However, you did have some moments where your skepticism was challenged. Such as during your first winter, when you looked out the window during a blizzard and swore up and down that you saw a tall black figure standing behind the trees looking back at you. But as the snow piled up, the figure disappeared.
Now? It was your cozy escape from the chaos of your job.
Your tired steps carried you through the front door and up the creaky stairs to your warm bed. Any other night, you would rip your scrubs off and take a steaming shower before falling asleep, but obviously tonight was not one of those nights. You still got undressed, leaving your scrubs in a pile on the floor, and threw on an oversized t-shirt. You couldn't even be bothered to let your hair down or take off any jewelry you wore that day. The one thing you were able to notice in your sleepy state was that your wrist still hurt where he grabbed you. Regardless, you crawled into bed and tried to close your eyes.
Too exhausted to cry and too exhausted to think. Despite everything, you were able to pass out pretty fast. At least that was one good thing about this night.
Eyeless Jack x Reader - Pt.1 - The Stockroom
~this is my first time writing and posting fan fiction... enjoy?~
Working late nights at the veterinary hospital wasn't awful. You enjoyed the ER and how unpredictable it was. Those moments where an emergency is rushed back to the room, adrenaline flowing through your veins and keeping you on your toes, it was all worth it. Especially when you were able to be a part of the team to save the animal's life. But you would be lying if you said it never got lonely. Most of the coworkers you'd become acquainted with were scheduled for day shifts, so like ships in the night, you saw them all in passing. You knew that once your night shift was over, you would be returning to an empty house tucked away from the rest of town. Needless to say, you were grateful for even the slightest bit of social interaction you received on these evenings.
It was around 11:45 pm when you were walking back to the stockroom to grab some supplies:
- 1 box of 3ml syringes
- A package of gauze
- some rolls of vet wrap
- 1 box of 18g catheters
- 1 box of 22g needles
You looked your list over and over again, feeling as if you were missing something. As you neared the end of the hallway into the cold and drafty stockroom, you could hear the radio blasting on full volume, distracting your mind from these thoughts.
Earlier that day, one of the lights in the back had gone out, so storage was especially creepy. You pulled out your phone's flashlight to search for what was on the list, but the room was still engulfed in a dark shadow. "Well, this is stupid..." You muttered to yourself. Your tired feet dragged across the floor as you made your way over to the shelves. That is until you tripped.
crrrsssshhhhh
You accidentally kicked a box in your path and sent it gliding across the floor. A groan escaped your throat. Of course, the box had made its way to the darkest corner in the whole room. You put your phone back in your pocket so you could use both hands to pick it up, but as you bent down to grab the stupid box, you were met with a pair of dark muddy boots that had almost perfectly camouflaged into the darkness. Your skin went cold.
Whatever song that was playing over the speaker had finished, and within those brief few seconds of silence, you swore you could hear one long, deep, and heavy breath.
There was a person wearing those boots... standing in the dark corner... watching you.
Fight or flight kicked in fast. You immediately dropped the box and started to turn around, planning to run to the others in the ER for help. Just as you made your first step though, a rough gloved hand reached out and forcefully grabbed your wrist. Your breath hitched as you were pulled back.
"Shhhhh..." The person said
"Don't say anything and I won't do anything. Got it?" His voice was deep and smooth. His lips were right behind your ear. His breath smelled... metallic? Like a substance you were very familiar with, Blood.
You didn't want to listen to him; you wanted to call for help. But with the music in the stockroom and the commotion back in the ER, it was too loud. No one would hear you scream. You tried thrashing your arm out of his hold, but he only grabbed tighter. His other hand went right over your mouth.
"I need you to listen to me very carefully" He started. "Like I said, if you don't say anything, I won't do anything. I have no intention of hurting you, but I will if I have to." His warm breath felt rough against the back of your neck as your hairs stood up and goosebumps grew over your skin.
Your mind buzzed in panic. This is clearly not a scenario you thought you would find yourself in. One part of you knew the right thing to do. Run free and find your coworkers, someone to alert about the intruder. But the other side of you was exhausted. It was almost midnight; you had been on your feet all day and the last thing you needed was some sort of confrontation. Would he really not hurt you if you kept quiet and let him leave? What reason would someone have to break into a veterinary hospital anyways? His tight hold kept you still as you let out a pained sigh. You knew what you had to do.
Suddenly, you bit down hard on his gloved hand. Hard enough that he felt it through the thick material. You could taste blood and dirt on the cloth, but you ignored the disgusting taste until your teeth ripped a hole and you broke his skin. He didn't expect the bite, the shock of pain caused him to retreat his hand away for a moment, enough for you to escape. You took a few steps forward so he couldn't reach out to grab you again, your back still facing him.
"Fine, I'll keep my mouth shut. But just 'cause you say you won't hurt me doesn't mean I won't hurt you." You spat.
Thank the gods your fight or flight response made you aggressive.
Without turning to get a good look at him, you quickly ran back in the direction of the ER without any of the supplies you had intended to get. You figured you would tell the others, if they questioned you, that you forgot something, or that you thought you had made a mistake when writing the list. Whatever lie you had to make up, you just hoped it would give enough time for the stranger to leave the stockroom and never come back. Hopefully this incident would never have to be brought up.
