Part 5 of the Trinktober Trinkets. (Part 1) (Part 2) (Part 3) (Part 4)
19 - A book of poetry, written by a fallen comrade-in-arms who hoped to become famous for their work. The poems are mediocre at best.
20 - A canvas bag practically overflowing with edible mushrooms.
21 - A tin container stuffed full of coffee beans, and a small hand-cranked grinder.
22 - A gift from a relative who has since passed away. You have yet to bring yourself to unwrap it.
23 - A music box that makes any spell-caster listening to it slightly nauseous, but is beautiful to anyone who can not cast spells.
24 - A driftwood and sea-glass wind chime in the shape of an octopus.
I went through a mimic phase a while back :D
Concept: an RPG where the suspiciously convenient merchant that seems to be following the party around is just, like, this mimic impersonating a vending machine. Communicates entirely in indecipherable grunts and whistles. The goods are sound, albeit somewhat slobbery, but don’t expect to get any change back – it’s literally eating the coins.
How is it obtaining the loot though? Is eating other adventurers too?
That’s certainly what one might assume at first, particularly as its contents consist mostly of practical adventuring gear. However, successive visits turn up a number of items which call that theory into question, including:
A tiny chess set
A stick of purple chalk
A live mouse in a small silver cage
A moderately overpriced bottle of elven wine
A finely bound volume of halfling erotic poetry, illustrated
A colourfully painted earthenware pot in an unfamiliar style
A bulky wax-wrapped package that, upon opening, proves to contain a fresh-baked loaf of bread, apparently still hot from the oven
For its part, the vending mimic just gurgles agreeably in response to whatever explanation is proposed; it’s not altogether clear that it understands Common, though it certainly seems to understand capitalism!
I’ve already adopted it. It’s named Vendy
This popped up in one of my FB groups and I thought it was rad!
10/10, would use if I was running a game with folks I don’t know
First revision of the Yurei, which includes some typo fixes as well as adding in some obvious immunities I forgot to include in the first version.
A WEREWOLF HANGOVER
Some flavor for your werewolf characters! Transforming is a right doozy and surely you don’t feel 100% fine after it? So I present to you the werewolf hangover tables! Roll 1D8 for where the discomfort is and then 1D4 for what it is.
This was made for D&D 5e (though to its nature it can be used for any roleplaying game) and feedback is much appreciated!
The first draft of Fabrin, a race of amorphous fabric-shelled creatures. The artwork of the fabrin, itself, was made by me (you can also see it over on dungeons-and-dryads. It was an NPC for my campaign).
The curtain artwork is by EveyD.
If you’d like to see more 5e homebrew, consider supporting me on ko-fi!

How to make a CRAZY LIT D&D campaign…
USING TUMBLR GIFS
First pick a number. We will go with 15.
Search the word “Places” or “Locations” in the Tumblr GIF search and select the 15th result.
There’s your starting point. A cemetery.
Now look up “Time” or “Weather”.
There we go! Now you have the time of day and roughly time of year this starts! We’re gonna say this is winter in the mid afternoon.
Now you’re gonna look up “Person” or “Character”.
Now look at that! We are on a roll here! That’s the face of our villain. We’re gonna say the party wakes up to this stranger standing among them and then quickly vanishes before they can react.
Now go back and without even typing anything, pick the 15th GIF.
Well look at you! Already a pro! This item or person will be the party’s goal to obtain. It’s your choice whether or not this thing is also the goal of the villain, or the tool of his demise.
And finally, look up “Places” or “ Locations” one last time.
There you go! That’s where the party will have to go to find what they’re looking for! You can also look up these words again to take the party to the Villain’s location, if you want them in separate places.
If you ever need more to go on, you can always look up more words in the search bar. Like extra people, magic items, locations, events, weather conditions, anything you want, really. Have fun and let me know how your campaigns go!
Idea: “Hasn’t been the same since the accident.”
Let’s be honest here: in tabletop games, PCs die. Or get zipped to alternate planes. Or alternate realities, timelines, time paradoxes, and any combination therein!
And DMs/GMs usually need some way to revive characters, if there’s still one living party member available. Some DMs are merciful even further than that; either way is good, as they’re good deterrents from TPKs.
However, I’ve always thought it weird that characters brought back from other planes, beyond the grave, etc. suffer NO effects other than a possible fee from the local pastor (See: Dragon Quest series).
So, hear me out: what if the PCs have random states or effects depending on what they’re coming back from and what condition their body was in beforehand.
Some ideas:
“Our cleric met an unfortunate demise in the last quest, and her body was badly damaged. But she’s our friend and our healer, so we coughed up the gold to have her ghost accompany us. We call her the Holy Spirit now.”
“Our rogue kinda went to hell for some rare thieve’s dagger that boosts his stats. We paid a priest to exorcise him back to our plane, but it made him half-demon and prone to some eviler intentions. Soooooo, the biggest difference is his aesthetic, really.”
“Our mage was caught in a fractured timeline. We managed to fix it and get her EXISTING again, but she went from age 28 to age 6, sooo…. now we have a reality-warping child in our party.”
Obviously, there are many games out there, so I unfortunately can’t give ideas for every situation like these in the tabletop world. I might do more tables if y’all give me some examples! I did make a 1d8 table for “back from the dead,” since that’s about the most universal example:
… Happy gaming~!
Oooooo! Love the idea. For our games, something smaller would probably work better, but I am all for something lingering from death or there being some downside from dying and being brought back. 😍
We should work on a table of our own, or put together some ideas for scenarios that fit our campaign! 😃
ROSE QUARTZ - AVENTURINE - AMETHYST - TIGER’S EYE Which one are you?
creepy as fuck, but also amazing [tweet]
Found the creature- it’s called an Oblex and it appears in Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes along with art of the kid’s player character! They’re apparently the result of Mindflayer experimentation on Oozes and they’re sick as fuck, you can read about them in <a href=“https://www.google.com/amp/comicbook.com/gaming/amp/2018/05/23/dungeons-and-dragons-make-a-wish-mordenkainens-tome-of-foes/”>this article! Bad D&D idea #10:
One of the party members died, annoying as ever. Instead of making up a necromancer or playing without them, you test their improv skills
Your player has 10 seconds to answer the question, this will grant them 1HP
Quick, if your character were living in 2013, what would their favorite song be?
If the player answers with a song released in or before 2013 and can defend their answer, they have a second chance at life and you don’t have to deal with a character death
Here’s 6 options for your character that’s missing an arm. This is something I’ve talked about a lot with @dungeonsdonuts for @snowwitchshieldmaiden.
One of my favorite parts of playing D&D is coming up with something to try and getting your DM to say “I’ll allow it”
be sure to note the difference between “i’ll allow that” and “you can certainly try that” though
House Hunters: D&D Edition.
Alright, on a more serious note, I was inspired by a recent ask to redo my original building generator that I made a while back (and add a lot more tables and detail to it). It’s by no means an end-all-be-all set of rolling tables, just an outline to get things started and developed. Have fun looking for a home base for your adventurers!
The artwork used is stock by Fumar-Porros. They create all of it using SketchUp and Photoshop. It’s really impressive!
