Asking Uncomfortable Questions...
So what you’re about to read does contain conversations about certain topics which could be seen as very sensitive to you, the Reader.
If you feel uncomfortable by anything presented here, I apologise in advance and ask that you click away from this Post and stop reading it entirely.
With that, I shall begin, and I hope that the replies, reblogs, and comments can help out.
I know this Post is gonna deal with some REALLY AWKWARD topics for some people, but no one seems to seriously talk about them and so no one is seems to be properly informed.
So I want to ask some Questions to the Community and get a general response on how people react.
How do you feel about flirting with your Players as a way to Roleplay?
Do you prefer the “Fade to Black” approach or “Roll a Lovemaking Check” approach to sex in your D&D Game?
What do you feel about LGBTQ+ Representation in your Game?
How often do you feature LGBTQ+ Characters in your Game, if at all?
What’s your Opinion on a Player wanting to play a Character of a different Gender or Ethnicity than themselves (such as a Male Player wanting to play a Female Character, or a White Player wanting to play a Black Character)?
How often do you feature Characters of varying cultures and ethnicity in your Game, if at all?
How would you represent mental illness and mental disability in your Game?
How would you represent a physical disability in your Game?
How often do you feature Characters with a Mental or Physical Disability in your Game, if at all?
What Topics in your Game do you consider an absolute “No Go” no matter what?

So I know this is unusual for me. I intend to keep this blog all my original content, but I found this pretty interesting and I’ve been meaning to make more text posts anyway. If you don’t care for this sort of thing, don’t worry, the brews aren't going to be delayed by posts like this, so feel free to ignore this if you are only here for the homebrewing.
My answers are
1. Not a problem at all, subject of course to the overriding rule of all DM role playing: your players are ok with it. We often focus a lot on big story choices and quest decisions in TRPGs, but role play can be so much more enriching and interesting if you also focus on the every day choices. If you are grumpy in the morning, how you handle small everyday troubles, and how you deal relationships, familial, platonic, or romantic.
2. I certainly prefer fade to black. Not that I’m opposed to the latter, but I think that anything other than fade to black is pretty much guaranteed to violate the principle mentioned above. The one exception to this is one time when I the NPC in question was in fact a doppelganger assassin. But even then it became a combat encounter before anything became too uncomfortable.
3. An odd question. I guess the banal answer is it’s totally fine, seems natural.
4. So if my statistics are correct, and they may not be, approximately 4%-5% of the adult population identifies as LGBTQ+. If that is correct, then my games tend to slightly over represent LGBTQ+ people.
5. Not a problem at all. These are fantasy worlds after all. You can play as all sorts of things, including non-mammalian humanoids, and maybe even non-animalian humanoids, or even non-living things, it seems incredibly silly to import our dumb human ideas of race. As for characters of different sexes or genders, the same applies.
6. Again an odd question. I think my games would be very boring if they only ever featured characters of my own ethnicity or culture, never mind the fact that again, in a fantasy world there may well be no equivalent to real life cultures or ethnicities, which are a distinct product of our world’s history.
7. This is actually something I shy away from. As far as representing real world mental illness or disability, and putting aside things like cosmic horror induced insanity, I think mental illness should be represented through role play, not mechanical effects.
8. This one on the other hand does lend itself well to mechanical effects. How it is represented really depends on what the disability is. A person with disabled leg might have their base speed reduced, a personal missing a hand might not be able to easily use two-handed weapons, it really just depends.
9. Like I mentioned before, I try to stay away from depictions of real world mental disability in my games. As far as physical disability, it comes up every once and a while.
10. Sexual assault. Period. Non-negotiable.
So I had to install a windows update about a month ago and it completely destroyed my computer. Constant stuttering, poor performance, and perhaps worst of all: extreme intermittent mouse and keyboard lag. Sometimes as bad as 10 or 15 second lag. As you might imagine, this makes even my minimal photo editing for these exceedingly difficult and frustrating. so until I can afford a new computer, the art might not be as well integrated and/or posts will take a little longer. Sorry.
Another dumb list. This one is one that you can actually use though, mostly to troll your players. That being said, a clever player may find a use for these “useless” items.
Being stuck in quarantine has me thinking about how some household spells would be swell. So here are some mundane spells. These sorts of things would have to exist in a DnD world, but not something that adventurers would be really interested in for their dungeon delving.
So I’ve seen plenty of homebrewed exotic weapons in my browsing, and many of them share a common flaw. So many exotic weapons lists end up being just Asian equivalents of European weapons, Katanas and whatnot. Admittedly, this list is more Asian weapons than not, I’m not blind, but I think that here are some weapons with no equivalents in any culture other than the one they originated from.
Hi. I really like the mutant class you made. I've been collecting homebrews and printing them to fit in a binder. The updated version of the mutant is kinda blurry. Is there a link to a clearer copy? Would greatly appreciate it. Also, rad write up for the barrel. :)
So a few people have said they have had this problem. I know for certain that the most recent version of the Mutant that I posted is crystal clear. If you are having trouble with it, here are a few recommendations: go to the desktop site, not the mobile site or the mobile app; right click on the picture and open in a new window; if all else fails, message me and I can send it to you directly.
A conversion formula for turning lone low CR enemies into swarms. Useful for threatening higher level players with otherwise weak enemies, having large battles, or even to create a Warhammer-like game where the PCs get to be heroes fighting along side an army.
A stupid list of stupid magic clothes. I had intended this to be a serious list of cool magic clothes, but it just turned into me making dumb jokes. Have fun.
Banes, or anti-feats if you will, for giving PC’s weaknesses in exchange for a feat. I think PC customization is fun, and the earlier you can separate your PC from the standard class progression the better. Also, having your PC having a defined weakness can make for some interesting moments as well as fun role play.
A little map I made for one of my player’s character’s home village.
More conjuration spells, because conjuration spells are fun.
Nonmagical items that only exist in a magical world. This is one of those ideas that I think would greatly benefit from crowd sourcing, so if you have more ideas for this, leave it in the comments, maybe we can come up with a part 2 together.
So I know this one is pretty similar to Nightwalkers, but hear me out here. One of the things that is pretty absent from 5th edition that was in previous editions is dangers to PCs that aren’t just damage. Sure there are some conditions, most notably petrified, that kinda fall into this category, but those are few and far between. So this is my swing at trying something different, in this case, aging. What also makes aging interesting is that it effects different characters differently. For an elf, an aging mechanic is just a minor inconvenience, but for an aarakocra it is a dire threat. A barbarian has no protection, but that squishy wizard can stay back and spam ranged spells. So I hope y’all find this interesting, let me know how it goes if you decide to do it.
On a side note, this is also a request for more negative energy plane monsters, feel free to make your own requests.
A cleaned up version of the Awakened Ooze. I had made the original on my laptop, and wasn’t used to its keyboard. My bad.
Finally getting around to doing some requests, this one, a playable slime. If any of you have anything you want to see brewed, let me know, and I may well take a shot at it.
A little quick and dirty today, but the inspiration struck me and I wanted to get it out quick. Happy holidays y’all.
