I dislike media with child actors and the reasons in order of importance are:

normalizing child labour,

working conditions in the entertainment industry,

I don't think about kids as artists and find it fucked up they get used like performing monkeys,

please let me look at an adult. If you need variety in the cast just show me an adult who is not a white dude named Chris.

I was the correct age when I saw Free Willy to think Elijah Woods character was cool and relatable. But I was a bit confused how you can just have a kid starring in a movie. When I was a bit older I looked it up and there's a lot of talk about shortened hours and other protections for child workers in the industry.

I was luckily much older when I found out about Drew Barrymore going to rehab at 13 and posing for Playboy 19. And this is someone from an established family, she is the definition of a Nepo baby. It kind of drives home that the industry is chaotic and not a great place for a child. And there are enough stories from former child stars to emphasize this point

I'm listening to an audiobook and there is an 18 year old girl who has grown up very sheltered and has only ever seen a few pantomimes and, you know, Shakespeare. So she must be entirely gullible and up for any manipulation. Except depending on the amount of Shakespeare I feel like there's a possibility she's running the show and playing up the part of the ingenue and the comeuppance is coming to everybody else.

I think it's a good way to foreshadow. The book is a romance so it's not like the mystery is the full focus of the story, it needs to make space for the girl's cousin to have his gay drama
