so weird how in english some words are really just used in expressions and not otherwise… like has anyone said “havoc” when not using it in the phrase “wreaking havoc”? same goes for “wreaking” actually…
reply with more, i’m fascinated
these are called fossil words! here's a whole list
Also interested in words that originally had opposites but don’t anymore; i.e. how we say ruthless but not ruth.
this is not a drill

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: that hotline is forvo.com. It’s a pronunciation dictionary that allows you type in a word and see how it’s pronounced. They have multiple languages as well. Don’t see a word on there that you know how to pronounce? You can totally add it. Visit forvo. Help yourself.
that is much better than a hotline because you don’t have to actually talk to someone

When I worked at Amazon a microwave fell from five layers up in the racking and broke the arm of an order picker.
They were an agency temp so Amazon called the agency to let him go and have another temp sent *before* they called an ambulance, when he tried to put in sick days they turned around and told him “Sorry you’d already been let go before the accident was logged anywhere”
I will kill every ceo
I will help

When people choose not to buy via Amazon, it’s for reasons like this
So it seems like we're all into quizzes in these days. Want to take an interactive, branching Hogwarts House quiz that took us months to write and test?
It can take from twenty minutes to like three hours depending on how much you argue with it!
Feel free to loop around and explore different Houses-- it's built to be a walk-through of the @sortinghatchats system as much as a functional quiz. A conversation, rather than an answer.

An interactive conversation to help guide readers through the Sortinghatchats system
This is the most thorough, enjoyable, and well-written Sorting Hat quiz I have ever taken.
Some people have bruises they don’t know about, and the rain can still hurt windows as if glass was cotton. Cotton pretending to be insides of a fist. The sky crying newborn tears and a howl. How a little thing can sound wolf even without teeth and darling, this is how we are. Someone asks us to spell love and we tell them it is a thousand bee stings before the honey comes. How sugar can cut our fingers gentle and war first before holding hands. Some people have bruises and they forget how much of their hurt becomes poem before blood. So I start kissing your forehead. The Mars rover is still exploring red scars and we think our moon is jealous. This is our truth. We’re going to miss everything beneath this sky, even cotton, even rock There’s a broken bridge in your hometown I want to see you as a child running there. I want to catch you before you hit the ground.

Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Sea Otter Q & A with Live Sea Otter Action!
This is a livestream Monterey Bay Aquarium held yesterday, and it’s really great for a few reasons! It’s super informative, it’s got some rollicking playtime footage, and it’s one of very rare times you can see sea otter surrogate mothers schooling rescued pups in all things otter! The aquarium writes:
Resident sea otters Kit and Ivy are in the Sea Otter Exhibit to teach their adopted wild sea otter pups some classic sea otter 101!! Kit is taking care of Pup 882 and Ivy is taking care of Pup 883, while Otter 860 hangs out has a companion. (We only name sea otters that could not survive in the wild and need to remain in human care—hopefully 882, 883 and 860 will never need names and live long lives in the wild!)
Enjoy!
