SPECULATIVE RAMBLING NOT CANON (YET?)

Thinking about raspy crickets and my cabagu, if u can see where I'm going w that...

I love bugs that spin silk. I especially like bugs that SPIT silk. I've been thinking about Cabagan children... What if like, early Cabagan ancestors spun silk to make they homes underground better, and eventually started feeding it to their infants? I dunno haha. Kings would make it though, that I know, since they're the primary caretakers of children in Cabagan society.

Anyway I've also been thinking about Cabagu reproduction... I think Kings rather than fertilizing eggs actually just deposit them uh. In the queen. And the queen fertilizes them internally. Also it's been a well established fact in my mind basically since that I made them that Cabagan genitals are BRIGHT FUCKING BLUE. That shade of blue is the "sexy color" the same way red is for humans. Anyway you're really not supposed to publicly display anything with that shade of blue haha

Also at some point Cabagu language is getting an overhaul. And also they may get renamed since cabagu literally can't even pronounce the name I gave them HAH (no lips)

Gigantic Cabagan sea creature. I was half asleep watching Markiplier play subnautica 2 last night and he wandered into a cave with a big purple thing in it. Made me want to draw a sea bug.

Anyway this thing is a colossal invertebrate, deep-sea, apex predator around the size of a blue whale.

It comes up to the surface every so often to have babies, or washes up on the shores of the continent. When they die and sink to the seafloor, they're like whale falls because they cause diversity hotspots.

Cabagu ugly ugly ugly disgusting babies part three

Okay, with that out of the way I'll actually info dump now.

Development timeline:

Month two: their ocelli grow in and they begin to sense light and dark. Their ear canals start developing inside their heads and they begin to grow cartilaginous bones. Also, their second arms begin to grow inside a skin pouch. When they're ready to come out they'll claw that pouch open from the inside and then they'll have more arms. They'll bleed a little, but not severely (unless something is wrong.) Right before they break that skin those arms move around a lot in there.

Day one: born grublike, boneless, deaf, blind, and with only one pair of limbs, they climb onto the backs of their designated caretaker (usually the father that sired them, but can also be other kings in the complex) and hang there. Their arms are fairly developed, unlike the rest of their body, to help them climb and hang on.

Month four: eyes are Opening. Back legs are also growing, similar to the previous pair. Eventually they'll break out of the skin the same way. Hair is also starting to grow. Skeleton is mostly formed but not rigid or bony yet. Ear canals done, outer ears start to form in a similar way to the legs.

6 months: eyes done. Can see. Outer ears done And popped out, can hear. Starts to practice walking and minimal socialization. Whole body is furred, and is now starting to grow longer hair.

Year 1: is a child. Small cabagu. Walking, socializing, now can learn the ropes of being a person. Has a full and bony skeleton. Can no longer be ethically culled in cabagu culture.

Culling: Cabagu can have up to six kids at a time. Now I don't know about you, but that's a lot. Also, if accidental pregnancies occur, it's pretty hard to detect them for Cabagu since gestation only lasts a week with little physical change. So, if unwanted children are born, it's pretty common to cull them.

Him cloth

Awhile ago I said I was redesigning cabagu clothes. Really I just spent some time thinking about it before putting it on the base I always use. This guy and a casual shirt, + some jewelry bc I just ... Like putting jewelry on them haha.

Anyway, notes:

Casual shirts can be loose or pinned to pants to keep it from catching on things, depending on the wearer's needs. Avoids covering the spiracles, and the arms get to be loose and sleeveless! If you need protection for your body though, like when doing dangerous work, there's sleeved and closed shirts out there.

Cabagu also wear gloves pretty frequently when out and about- they have taste buds in their hands (as well as their pedipalps), and when handling tools and the like it's better to not taste whoever had it before you. When in their homes though they don't really wear gloves - like shoes. Wear em outside, take em off inside.

I've also been thinking about cabagu hairstyles. They like to braid. Braiding your complex-mates' hair is a good way to socialize and bond. They also tend to dye those braids with temporary dyes.

Onuran sea creature.

It crawls along the sea floor like a seaslug. They can swim a little, but it's more like... You don't see it often. Like a scallop. Did you know scallops can swim. They swim like long stingrays!

The carnivorous ones envelop slow moving prey (like clam/mussel/snail-analogs) or already dead animals under their bodies then slime it like a hagfish, which keeps it from escaping and also digests/softens it before the stomach, and then it ejects its stomach out of its "mouth" like a starfish and eats it. It can also use its goo as a self defense mechanism... Again like a hagfish.

The herbivorous ones have evolved their acid goop and stomach to be together, so they crawl along plants very slowly with their stomach out and slowly dissolve the leaves or stems.

They don't have eyes, but some like this one have eyespots to deter predation.

Reproduction info below the cut:

The two projections on the back are actually its reproductive organs - one is male and one is female. When they mate they detach the part in their partner's body to either produce sperm or eggs cells. the partner digests the organ once it's done its job of reproduction to gain an additional energy boost to gestate offspring. They only live long enough to breed once or twice (male and female parts), produce offspring, and then die.

Cabagan grassland insect.

After mating, adult females will find a good place to anchor their bodies, like a blade of grass, and then proceed to chew off and eat their wings and not move for 2 weeks until their young, which grow on the end of their tail in a little puffball of insects like dandelion seeds, are old enough to detach and float away. The mother dies once the majority of the young fly off.

Once the juveniles are off their mother's tail they subsist on blood of other creatures, growing until adulthood when they mate.

Right before their final growth cycle they bury themselves underground and wait until the right season, where they all emerge at once. The males mate as many times as they can before dying, and the females release their young, repeating the cycle.
