Default setting is Unova (mostly Nimbasa) or Hisui, though the sisters are originally from Kanto.

Reina has traveled across Johto, Sinnoh, and Galar. (speaks Kantoan and Galarian.)

Kana lived in Hisui for about 15 years. (speaks Kantoan, Sino, and Galarian.)

Hina traveled with Reina - minus Galar - and was also in Hisui for a decade. (speaks Kantoan, Sino, and Galarian.)

“Why haven’t you been eating?”

Emmet picks at a spare thread on his chair, refusing to meet Reina’s worried gaze. Eating. Emmet hasn’t been eating, has he? It’s been all coffee and the occasional bite of a bagel, if he can manage it. He can’t manage much nowadays, not with his stomach in knots most every night.

“I am Emmet,” he murmurs, somewhat ashamed that he became so noticeable as to worry Reina, “and I am. . . fine. I ate this morning.”

He ate an old gummy worm from a pack on the counter, a mindless thing he just did. Then berated himself about because the worms were Ingo’s, and he’d be mad if Emmet ate them while he was. . . gone.

Reina stands there watching him for a few long, silent moments, her lip between her teeth.

She doesn’t believe him; she isn’t going to say it out loud.

Instead, she looks away and absentmindedly cracks her knuckles one at a time with her thumb.

“…Okay,” she says at last, nodding to herself. “Okay…”

Reina looks back up and him with a determined set to her features. “Stay put, I’ll be right back.”

And with that, she turns on her heel and strides off.

Emmet blinks, surprised by the sudden exit. He sits, alone now, and wonders if he said something wrong. He plays his words over in his head, but is unsure what would have set Reina off like that.

Maybe his lying is just that bad.

Well, he has nowhere to be. And Reina said she’d be back, so Emmet just turns back to his paperwork, shakily signing off what needs to signed and reading what needs to be read.

She returns a half hour later with an insulated tote slung over her arm.

She doesn't even knock, just strides right in and gently sets the tote down on his desk.

"...I know what hunger looks like," she says quietly, not looking at him as she takes a couple of containers out and sets them in front of him; one looks like a travel bowl of some kind of soup, and the other she pops the lid off to reveal a neat little row of onigiri.

"And... I know what self-denial looks like, too."

She sits carefully down in a nearby chair and watches him in her peripheral vision. "...I didn't know what filling you'd like for the onigiri, so I made different kinds. The soup is just miso. All of it should be pretty gentle on your stomach if you haven't eaten in a few days."

(There's something in the way she says this, paired with the way she presses her lips together into a thin line for just a moment, that speaks of personal experience.)

Emmet just. . . can’t. He looks at the food, the gentle scents that make his stomach gnaw at him. He looks at Reina, the knowing wisdom she solemnly carries. He thinks about her struggling, thinks about how she went and made him food, thinks about the pain hollow in his chest and stomach.

And he cries.

It’s quiet. Emmet is quiet. He hiccups and lifts the backs of his fists to his eyes like a toddler, but he can’t help it. This gentle kindness and the recognition of a shared pain in Reina is just too much.

“I am Emmet.” He weeps. “I am Emmet and I am sorry!”

He is. He is so very sorry, for too many things to name right now. So instead he sits and he cries over cute onigiri and soothing miso soup.

“I am sorry. I am sorry.”

He can’t stop muttering it. He’s so sorry. He hope and prays he’s forgiven, not just by Reina, but by everyone else he’s failed.

Reina sits there, torn and worried as Emmet quietly breaks down. She wants to reach out and hug him, to offer the kind of weight and comfort she wishes someone had given her once upon a time when her situation had been similar - but she doesn’t know if he’d be alright with contact right now.

Still, she can’t just let him cry himself out and not do something.

So, slowly, carefully, she stands and moves to Emmet’s side, leaning her hip on the desk so she isn’t looming over him, despite him still being taller than her, even sitting. Reina very gently lays a hand on his shoulder, before pulling him into a cautious hug.

“Shhh,” she whispers, not even sure if he can hear her. “It’s okay. You’re allowed to not be okay.”

She holds him just a little tighter.

If Pecha’s brain was made of gears and cogs, then they all would have come to a screeching halt as soon as Pecha heard the words leaving Hina’s mouth.

Did…did she just hear that right?

“H-huh!?” Pecha says dumbly, eyes wide and round. Her face is as pink as her namesake. “Y-you…with m-me? R-really?”

She just had to double check to make sure she wasn’t dreaming.

Oh. Oh wow.

There’s a pause as Pecha’s eyes widen when she sees Hina and a blush quickly grows on her face. How was it possible for anyone on this planet to be this gorgeous?? Her hand, which was chilled from nervousness, comes up to pat her flushing face.

“H-huh?” Oh no. Hina had asked a question. Pecha’s brain races to remember what it is, trying to recover quickly. “N-no, I didn’t wait long!”

There’s a brief glance from her pink eyes up and down to check out Hina’s whole outfit before she looks away in embarrassment again.

“You look amazinger. M-more amazing? Th-that…”

Hina thinks about suppressing the urge to reach out and take Pecha’s hand in her own, but the desire to, well, hold Pecha’s hand is far too strong to ignore - and besides, her crush looks (adorably) nervous, and Hina wants to make sure Pecha is actually comfortable today. She wants them both to have fun.

So, grinning happily, she brings up a hand and steals the one Pecha has pressed to her own face. It’s freezing.

“You okay?” she asks, tilting her head to try and catch Pecha’s gaze. She holds the taller woman’s hand in both of hers, cupping her fingers around it in an attempt to help warm it up. “You seem kinda chilly. We can go somewhere with more sunlight if you’re cold.” She lifts Pecha’s hand up to her lip and brushes a faint kiss against her knuckles.

Hina winks. “Not that sunlight could hold a candle to you~”

“Ah, sorry…” Cold hands on the first date doesn’t bode well when you want to hold hands! Pecha feels embarrassment worsen her blush. Before she can even respond, her eyes widen at Hina’s gentle kiss and flirt.

A giggle bubbles up from Pecha’s chest as she attempts to hide her face. Her free hand presses against her chest, her wildly fluttering heart beating madly.

“Y-you’re gonna kill me if you keep doing this…” She manages to joke, finally.

Hina’s grin stretches into something feline as she watches Pecha’s reaction - wide and toothy like a cheshire cat’s, with a glimmer in her eyes that speaks of mischief.

“Whoops~” she giggles, not even a little bit apologetic. In fact, there’s pride in her voice as she follows it up with, “Good thing I know mouth-to-mouth then, huh?”

Her eyes crinkle shut for a moment with the force of her smile, before she lets out a playful, “heeee~” and swings Pecha’s hand back and forth between them like a happy teenager. “Okay!” she says, popping a hip and resting her free fist atop it. “So! Ice cream was the plan, I think? But we can do something less cold now and do that later if you want.”

She purses her lips in thought, humming absently. “Theeeeeere’s a little sandwich on the corner about a block down. And then there’s a little fountain close to that with benches around it. Could be a cute lunch spot?”

There is a swooping in Reina’s chest that feels like that weightless split second between tripping and landing face-first on the ground, and she feels her expression soften to something far more vulnerable than she’d like. She turns her face away so that Ren doesn’t see the moment of fragility.

Reina gives a breathy chuckle, weak and faintly wet. “Heh. Ren, that’s… you’re making me blush, come on now.”

(She hates the way her lip trembles, the way she has to blink several times to keep everything in.)

Still looking away, she reaches over and rests her hand atop Ren’s own, giving it a light squeeze. It sounds…nice, the idea of being protected; she hopes it never comes to that, but it’d be nice. To not feel like she has to go it alone.

Ren puffs her chest out, hoping to distract from the heavy heat searing her cheeks and boiling her ears.

“Of course!” She announces loudly, as though to tell the whole world. Her volume control has always been bad when she’s excited. “You’re my queen! And I’m your loyalest knight!”

Ren hops to her feet, spins, and scoops Reina into her arms. She rocks back with the weight, laughing.

“Majesty!” She gasps. “Your beauty doth blinds me!”

Cheeks burning, Reina drops her face into her hands and lets out a muffled scream, even as Ren’s arms wrap around her.

(Ren as a knight, she can easily see - strong and beautiful and brimming with determination. But a Queen? Her???)

“Reeeeeeeennnnn!!!!!” she pleads, though there is laughter in her voice. “Stooopppppp!!!!”

“I cannot stop!” Ren announces to the world, beaming as she marches Reina around. She sways and swings, unused to carrying a person, but still steady. She grips tight, making sure there’s no doubt that she has Reina secure against her. “Not when my beautiful queen doth doubt me!”

She snickers, well aware of Reina’s habit to dodge compliments. She won’t allow it to continue, however.

“I am your loyal knight, majesty.” Ren says, leaning her head against Reina’s. “I would never lie to you. Your beauty outshines the moon, the sun, and the stars above. You’re the only celestial body I worship.”

She carefully deposits her darling on the couch, and kneels next to her. Ren takes Reina’s hand and presses her lips to her knuckles.

“My queen.”

Reina yelps - giggling - as Ren scoops her up and begins to carry her like she’s something precious. She wraps her arms around Ren’s neck, burying her face in the other woman’s collarbone to hide the blush now blazing across her cheeks; it does nothing to hide the way her neck and ears are tinged with pink.

(She buries her face further as Ren continues to speak, hoping she can’t feel the few traitorous tears that leak from Reina’s eyes at the words of lighthearted devotion. Or the way Reina’s breathing hitches slightly, caught in her throat as her heart stutters, so unused to the onslaught of affection.)

As she’s set down once more, Reina moves her free hand up to cover her still-burning face, peering down at her girlfriend over her fingertips, trying to discretely brush away the lingering moisture from her lashes.

She swallows thickly, watching Ren kiss her stolen hand. For a moment she doesn’t react, heart thudding against the back of her ribs. Then, slowly, she lowers her hand from her face and reaches out to lay it gingerly on Ren’s shoulder. She leans in, pressing a shaking kiss to her “knight’s” forehead.

“Sh… shouldn’t that make you my king, then?” she whispers as she sits back. She offers her girlfriend a tiny, shy smile.

(How was it that Ren always managed to leave her fucking breathless?)

Ren let’s out an intrigued little noise.

“Ooh, that does sound fun, but I think a knight is far sexier!” She flexes, not that there’s really all that much to show off. She’s too lean to really show off anything. “Don’t you agree? A queen and her knight, willing to lay down her life in service to her noble.”

Ren sighs dreamily, leaning against Reina’s lap as she cradles her hand to her fluttering heart. “How romantic does that sound? I wanna be a knight so bad.” She peers up at Reina through her lashes, expression awfully innocent. “Wouldn’t you like that? Me, decked in armor with a sword, at the ready to serve you whenever you need me?”

Reina takes a moment to picture Ren in armor and... actually yeah, that’s kind of an appealing image, she won’t lie.

Still.

“Maybe don’t go laying your life down for me?” she asks, bringing her free hand up to affectionately tuck a lock of hair behind Ren’s ear. “I feel like that’s only romantic in theory, honey.”

Thinking for a moment - and chewing a little too roughly on her lip - Reina slowly leans down and presses a light kiss to Ren’s forehead. “My knight,” she whispers, nuzzling her nose into her girlfriend’s hair. Her face burns red - but no one has to see it just yet.

Ren winks. “If I can prove that you’re interesting, I get something from you. If I can’t prove it, you get something from me. Winner chooses what they want. Simple!”

She shows her hands, palms empty, a show of no harm. “What do ya say?”

Reina frowns slightly, though it looks more like a pout.

“I guess… depends on what you want?” she asks. Sparing a glance at the relatively empty cafe, she hum in thought and unties her apron, setting it aside. “Okay, I’ll bite. How you want to go about this?”

If nothing else it would be a good way to kill some time, and the stranger seems pretty amiable. (And, Reina thinks with a quiet snort of laughter, if things go wonky, she can easily sneak out the back.)

Reina isn’t sure how to feel about the way her stomach sinks a little when Ren appears to back off. She has to fight back the frown that wants to creep over her face despite how cute Ren’s flustered reaction was. (And cute? Really? Reina has no idea why the word ‘cute’ is the first thing that popped into her head for Ren’s blush, but… she finds she isn’t upset.)

“You don’t have to battle,” she says before she can think too hard on it. “I mean, ah…”

(What is she doing right now? She has no idea. But maybe because Ren - for all the earlier eagerness - suddenly seems… not dejected, exactly, but something.)

Her mouth twisting to the side as she struggles to parse her own weird thought process at the moment, Reina huffs softly and says, “I work close tonight and the battle shift tomorrow, but I’m usually on break around 2:00 if you… wanted to drop by again…”

Ren flusters a bit more, grinning shyly.

“Oh!” She fumbles her own fingers a bit. That’s a relief. Battling is something Ren truly isn’t great at. Sure, Birdie is a buff ass bug, but the rest of her team? Not great. But then again, she’d hate to be weird, or god forbid, stalkerish.

“Oh, oh, um… Drop by? To…” Her voice gets a little squeaky, shoulders rising. “Battle?”

She’s officially off her game, but figures this is as good a time as any to be honest.

“I’m not really a battler.” Ren admits, embarrassed (maybe even ashamed, but she doesn’t linger long on that). “I’m afraid I won’t be a great rival or anything like that.”

Too caught up in her flustered feelings, she seems to miss that perhaps Reina wasn’t asking for a battle.

Reina snorts, a little off guard yet again. “Uh. No, I... I don’t really want a rival, actually,” she tries to clarify, lightly waving a hand as if to ward off the thought. She quirks a brow and tilts her head just so. “Besides, is it... common? To ask your intended rival for a kiss?”

It’s a genuine question, too; she’s never had a rival before - not that she’s ever been interested in having one - and while she hasn’t been in Unova all that long, she’s pretty sure she hasn’t yet come across that particular difference in culture to be able to tell.

(Reina really hopes that not what Ren was going for here. She’s had enough battling for reasons other than fun to last her a couple more decades.)

Clearing her throat, she stumbles on in hopes of putting any more talk of rivalry squarely away. “I just meant that I’m free for an hour at 2:00 tomorrow. If you wanted to... say... hi...” She trails off. Hmm. Yeah, the longer she stretched that sentence out, the more pathetic it had sounded.

What, someone shows a scrap of interest in talking to her even past the awkward “where is this going” start, and now she’s thinking of them as cute and hoping they come by again? Even she’s confused by her own mixed signals now...

Hina and Aster starter for @astererer~ (I’m so sorry for the title. XD)

The shop smells like old books and paper boxes as she enters, and for a moment she considers checking it out another time.

‘Then again,’ she thinks, ‘when am I gonna remember to come back?’

From what she can see, it’s a cute little store - though she can’t see the back from the doorway, so it probably goes back a lot farther than she assumes it does. Movie posters - both vintage and new - line the walls in between shelves of figurines and collectables, comic books, vhs tapes in carefully tended paper sleeves, and things that look like replica movie props. Everything Hina’s half of the house could always use more of.

Looking down at the woozy pokemon at her side, she jingles the leash in her hand to get his attention. Not enough to jostle him, of course, but enough to make a noise. He looks up at her with a low, curious trill, and Hina can’t help but kneel down and pet his fluffy head.

“Hey bud, how ya feeling?”

The Galarian meowth lets out a rumbling purr and attempts to bonk her with his head - only for the cone around his neck to get in the way. He frowns.

Hina coos in sympathy. “I know, it sucks, but you can take it off in a day or two, okay?”

The meowth just grumbles in response.

Deciding that if Crowbar is sober enough to grouse, then he’s sober enough to take a fifteen minute detour, Hina gently leads him along into the shop with a firm, “Don’t eat anything.”

(Crowbar whines in a way that almost sounds like a child letting out an exasperated, ‘fiiiiiiine!’)

And with that, the pair disappear into the depths of the shop, on the hunt for old (and possibly dumb) horror movies to pester her sisters into watching with her.

Aster hums to herself softly as she browses the store, eyes scanning the shelves until she finds something of interest, picks it up, and continues her search for more things. The Perrserker traipsing alongside her carries a small stack of VHS tapes, giving a heavy sigh when another is placed in his waiting arms.

She throws the pokemon a glance. “We’re almost done, mate. You won’t have to suffer much longer.”

Muffin responds by gently head butting Aster in the leg, causing her knee to buckle momentarily and a figurine to almost slip out of her grasp. A gasp escapes her lips from the surprise, before whirling around to grab one of his paws with her free hand and a grin on her face.

“If you’re going to behave like that I’ll have to restrain you.”

Muffin lets out an indignant squawk as he scrambles to keep hold of the tapes with only one arm.

She scoffs. “You love me really.”

The Perrserker grumbles a little, but flexes his paw in her grip as if to hold on tighter all the same. Aster rubs her thumb over his paw pads and resumes her humming.

They continue browsing for a few more minutes, when something grabs Muffin’s attention. He sniffs the air, a familiar scent having entered the shop. Another Perrserker? Or a Meowth? Either way he’s eager to find out, and starts to tug on Aster’s hand insistently.

“What’s up, big man?” Muffin’s sudden urgency earns him a raised eyebrow and amused smile. “Something you wanna show me?”

Having received permission to lead the way, Muffin pulls Aster along with a trill and enough force for Aster to almost trip over herself as he follows that familiar smell towards the front of the shop.

“Oooooooh! Check it out, babby, you could go as Pyramid Head for Halloween!” Hina giggles, hefting down the small-scale costume replica of the monster’s infamous helmet. She holds it close for Crowbar to sniff at - and then promptly has to pull it back out of his reach as he tries to stick a claw into it. “Nooooo,” she scolds lightly; “it’s for wearing, not for chewing.”

Crowbar grumbles softly.

Smiling fondly, Hina sets the helmet back onto its display (which, really, why wasn’t the thing in a glass case or something?) and carefully moves to head a little further down the aisle, waiting for her partner to catch up.

The prop wall gives way to a long display of posters and prints of old movie theatre lobby cards, with a sign nearby that advertises Buy-2-Get-1-Free for the smaller prints. Hina beams. “Jackpot!” She makes a beeline for the nearest one - featuring a man in black with a silver, bird-like mask - and starts gently tugging it from its stack. A delighted squeal becomes a delighted giggle, and for a moment she makes the mistake of ignoring the tug at the leash on her arm.

“Oh we are so wallpapering the bedroom with these this weekend!”

Crowbar doesn’t reply.

While his trainer busies herself with print featuring a little trick-or-treater wearing an orange onesie and holding a jagged orange lollipop like a sickle, Crowbar sniffs intensely at the air, having caught a faint whiff of... something.

“Mrrr?” he rumbles curiously. He sniffs again. Then, in an oddly coordinated act for someone so recently sedated, he manages to unclip the little plastic buckle holding his harness together and slip it off his shoulders. He totters away, up the aisle, curiously following the interesting smell of another cat inside the shop.

Reina - Open Starter

It’s tempting.

Reina loiters just outside a flower shop, eyeing the outdoor display of various potted plants. She still has space on her balcony, as well as a few places indoors she could probably fit another pot - the question is, does she need them? Rhododendrons have always been one of her favorites, and she’s always wanted one of her own, but the fact that they grow as a tree has made owning one impossible in the past.

But. Maybe now? With her own tiny apartment and a place to let them thrive, maybe…

It’s as she’s carefully standing from her crouch where she’d been checking the price tag that she miscalculates the placement of her feet. She stumbles, her weight distributed unevenly, and takes a step back to try and right herself before she falls on her ass - only to knock directly into someone behind her.

It was a nice day for a walk to a cafe. Aman thanks Arceus that he’s on leave and can actually enjoy today weather. Mulberry, his weavile, seems particularly happy with being outside today and Aman grins as she picks up a pretty stone and hurriedly brings it back to him.

Its during this stroll that he passes by a flower shop and mildly wonders if he could ever take care of a plant before-

“Whoa-” Aman is bumped from the side by someone. His left hand tightens it’s grip on his cane as he stumbles back, stepping on his right leg and sucking in a breath at the pain of doing so, before his right hand comes up to try to steady the person that ran into him. If it wasn’t for Mulberry’s quick action to quickly hold him steady, Aman probably would have toppled over with the person in his arms.

“Augh…Are you alright?” He asks, a grimace still on his face as he attempts to correct his posture.

Reina lets out a horrified squawk as she falls directly into someone. Goosebumps raise along her skin where he catches her, unused as she is to physical contact, and she involuntarily shivers for a moment before managing to get her feet back under her.

She teeters upright and spins around, bowing anxiously. “I’m so, so sorry!” she says, unable to even look at the poor person she’s all but bowled over. It takes her a full thirty seconds before she can look up at him - and when she does, she feels her heart sink all over again.

He’s gorgeous.

(And here she is, making an absolute fool out of herself.)

“I...” she tries. She coughs, clearing her throat nervously. “I’m alright, but are you?” Her face burns in embarrassment. “Thank you... for uh. For catching me.”

Once the idea to draw the different regional Meowths as the kittens in the Aristocats came into my head it wouldn’t leave until I did this lol. I’m actually so happy with how it turned out, and it was so much fun to do!

“Oh!” Ren stumbles forward, plopping face first into the large flowered pots her Cutiefly was partaking sweet nectar from. Said Cutiefly buzzes out of the flowers, angrily booping his little fists against Ren’s head as she lifts up. “Shit! ACHOO!”

The petals clinging to her fluff off from the force of the sneeze, raining about as Ren struggles to find her feet in the forest of plant pots.

“Y’okay?” She asks whoever bumped her, voice nasally as she peers through her tousled hair.

Reina makes a strangled sound in the back of her throat, utterly mortified at having just potentially barreled someone over in her gracelessness.

She scrambles to get her feet under her. She doesn’t entirely succeed, but she at least manages to right herself into a crouch, still half-tangled in whomever she’d knocked over.

“I am so sorry!” she gasps. It’s followed by a string of Kantoan, the words ‘gomen nasai!’ repeating several times as Reina attempts to reorient and help the other person do the same. Her hands flutter anxiously, picking stray petals off the other person’s shoulders and out of their hair, nearly afraid to touch at all but too embarrassed not to try.

Hina side-eyes her husband, pursing her lips to keep back a knowing smirk as his hand travels oh-so-casually up over her knee and inches ever higher.

She uncrosses her ankles, parts her legs slightly, closes them again but opposite, and recrosses her ankles. She squeezes her thighs together, trapping Dorian’s wandering fingers.

“What, ah…” she drawls, trying as hard as she can not to snigger. “What’cha doin there?”

Dorian idly messed around on his rotom phone, acting as if he hadn’t been paying attention as his hand wandered up his wife’s thigh.

He did, however, chuckle softly as she spoke. “I have no idea what you’re talking about, love.”

He turned his head to smirk over at her before speaking again. “Just having a bit of fun since I’ve been busier than normal recently, of course.~”

Hina snorts. “Uuuuuh huuuuuuh,” she drawls, quirking an amused, thoroughly unconvinced brow at Dorian’s supposed innocence. She gives his hand a squeeze with her legs.

“You know, I should say you owe me dinner or something first,” she teases. She tries to pout, though the mischief in her eyes completely ruins it. “Since you’ve been busy and all, leaving me by my lonesome little self. You’re so mean to me, Dori-chan~”

A slow, catlike smirk stretches over her face, replacing the failed pout with a glitter of unspoken shenanigans. She leans in close to Dorain’s ear and murmurs in a low, sultry voice, “Promise to buy me food after and then you can fuck me, ne?”

Dorian couldn’t help but chuckle lightly at her response, nodding slightly. “You know I’d take any excuse to spend more time with you and treat you while I’m here.”

He feigned consideration for a moment. “You drive a hard bargain, love.” He paused, smirking widely. “You have a deal.” He squeezed her thigh with the hand trapped between her legs as if confirming his decision, leaning against her slightly as he did.

Hina smirks.

Uncrossing her ankles, she instead twists her body gracefully and drapes a leg over Dorian’s lap, using her momentum to swing herself over until she’s sitting across his thighs. She peers down at him like the meowth that caught the pidgey and languidly slides her arms around his shoulders.

“So...” she drawls, deliberately squishing her chest up against his own. “Here or the bedroom?”

Everything aches.

Reina lies in the middle of her living room, the floor behind the couch having been the place her instincts dictated she build her nest this time - a pile of blankets, pillows, couch cushions, anything she could get her hands on that was soft and smelt of things that made her feel safe. It isn’t much, but it’s still better than she’d had while still living in her tent.

(She tries not to think about that too hard, lest she accidentally botch her own heat.)

She shivers, body feverish, and curls further into the pillows tucked around her as she waits for the telltale sound of a key in her front door’s lock.
