the last book I read: 100 Essays I Don't Have Time to Write by Sarah Ruhl.
a book I'd recommend: The Slough House series by Mick Herron. Especially if you're only familiar with the tv adaptation (Slow Horses). Not a knock against the show--it's well-acted and funny and respects the source material. Just doesn't have that sublime something I get from the books.
a book I couldn't put down: From the last couple months, The Oracle's Daughter: The Rise and Fall of an American Cult. I think it would be compelling and scary whatever your background, but if you grew up/have any experience with conservative Christianity or high-control religious groups in general, it really hits home.
a book I've read twice or more: I reread a lot. The Outsiders is one of the first that springs to mind, though, because of how it impacted (and continues to impact!) me.
a book on my TBR: So many. American Woman by Susan Choi and Swordspoint by Ellen Kushner are two I grabbed from the shelf in my bedroom (where I do most of my reading).
a book I've put down: Again, so many. I try not to read out of obligation, because that saps all the joy from it. I'm also convinced that a book can be Good or Important, but if it's not the right time for you to read it, it's not the right time.
a book on my wishlist: A Night to Remember by Walter Lord.
a favorite book from childhood: The Ransom of Mercy Carter by Caroline B. Cooney.
a book of poetry or lyrics I have: Yvor Winters: Selected Poems.
a nonfiction book I own: How to Do Nothing by Jenny Odell.
what I'm currently reading: The Ghost of Thomas Kempe by Penelope Lively. I read/reread a lot of kidlit.
what I'm planning to read next: I don't really plan my reading, so it could be anything. I am eyeing the first volume of House of Slaughter.
