I’m not even sure if this post will show up for most of you, considering 1) tumblr’s userbase has diminished quite a bit, and 2) my account is flagged for inappropriate content, but just in case there are some of you still kicking out here from way back when I was on tumblr for hours every day…I come bearing bad news.
If anyone here is following me from my big tumblr days, back in 2014-2017, you may remember my friend @sevvina . Some of you may have talked to her a bit yourself. She generally kept her real name private, but for the purpose of this post, and given the circumstances, hopefully she’ll forgive me for revealing it.
On March 21, 2022, Wendy (aka sevvina) passed away. Out of respect for her and her family, I feel I should not share the circumstances of the how.
Many of you may remember her for her love of Blackbeard, Charles Vane, and all things pirate, as well as a general love for history. Pictured above is Chucky Vane, the plushie of Charles Vane she made by hand with no prior sewing experience or sewing machine. All made by hand, trial and error. A labor of love. Her husband passed him on to me to take care of, and I will treasure him always.
She also wrote and ran the blog @sevvina-wd , which I highly recommend you read, as it’s a fantastic story. It went on an extended hiatus, as life got in the way of regular updates. Sadly, she did not finish it before she passed, but I do know, after staying in touch with her husband, that an ending she favored loosely went as follows:
The ending idea she liked the most had an epilogue with Charles and Rat eating dinner with Edward and their various families in Bath years after they were all supposedly killed. But getting there and if it would work was the challenge.
She had talked to me a few times about how “all pirate stories end in tragedy”, but she had an alternate “happy” ending planned for her story. Based on that, the above paragraph is likely that alternate end, so who knows how she wanted to officially end it. Let your imaginations run wild, friends.
In addition to being a damn-near expert on the Golden Age of Piracy, she was also one of the best friends I could have asked for. She was always there for advice (and she gave some really good advice), always there if I had a history-related question, always there as a listening ear. I can’t tell you how many times some shit would go down at work and I’d whip out my phone, open skype, and say “You’ll never guess what these assholes are doing over here at the clown circus today”. I still get the urge to send her dumb pictures that make me think of her.
She drove me to get my cat from my mother’s house and bring him to live with me. Then like 2 months later she was there to help me and @squidmccephalopod pack everything up and move back to the original city I freakin went to get my cat from and didn’t complain. I still kinda feel bad about that, but she was always there to help, and I will never forget that.
To wrap things up…we’ll miss you Wendy. We’ll miss all your fun stories and good advice and inappropriate jokes. If I ever make it to Nassau or Ocracoke, I’m doing it for you. I know you’re making everyone proud down there in whatever afterlife may exist. I know you marched right up to Blackbeard, Charles Vane, and all the other pirates and said “Start talking.”
Save me a seat down there. Put in a good word with the pirate boys for me.
P.S…Don’t worry, Chucky Vane is in good hands. I’ll take good care of him.
P.P.S… If any of you knew her or talked with her regularly, I’m sorry you had to find out through my post, and I’m sorry it took a while to put this out here. I’m still processing it myself.
This may be the last post I make on here. I haven’t regularly updated this blog in years, and while I miss the old days of writing fanfictions and posting them for everyone (including Wendy) to read and enjoy, tumblr has changed enough that I don’t find myself reaching for this app anymore. It’s been fun guys. My username is usually the same on all platforms if you need to find me.
reblogging because i finally got my blog restored, so in case any of my followers knew her and didn’t see it the first time i posted
