⠀⠀⠀ ˚ ﹒ ૮ I'll forever hate those who always portrait seong-je as a fucking rpist + literally s0ci0pathic man . the authors who portrait him like this can take an exit OUT THAT DOOR. Stop portraiting him like he is INTO sexual activity all the time. I saw one where he literally is noncon. Are we fucking serious? I hope you guys be led to the proper definition of his character PLEASE PLEASE ᓀ‸ᓂ ⠀⠀⠀ 𓏲
this probably isn’t gonna go far into the fandom but i’m sick and tired of people posting ooc shit for geum seong-je.. no your headcannons about seong-je “kidnapping your mom because you didn’t reply” or “he takes your stuff and goons to them” aren’t valid and straight up annoying
it’s never that big of a deal but seriously some people in the whc community need to get a grip and stop romanticising weird shit like this ESPECIALLY seong-jes mental issues
seongje fans and treating mental illness as a sexual fantasy
before anyone comes at me about how fanfiction is free labour and I don't have to read it, I would like to remind you guys that fiction affects how we view things. especially as someone directly affected by this, I do not see why I should not talk about it. a lack of censorship, etc. does not equal a lack of responsibility and morality.
I always feel like the woker when I point out things I view as issues in this community but I feel kind of responsible to do so with the platform I have at this point, even if there's bigger creators than me.
seongje doesn't have a confirmed diagnosis or anything, but that does not mean he doesn't fall under the category of a mentally ill person. I think it is rather obvious that he's not doing well mentally and that he has a lot of unresolved issues. not everything has to be confirmed and labeled by the creators in detail in order to be there. anyone who denies that seongje has issues should rewatch the show.
my writing isn't flawless either and you cannot fully avoid certain morals and beliefs you grew up with in being reflected in your writing, but like... can we at least try to understand things lol. I heavily dislike writing for seongje or engaging with anything related to him most of the time, because a lot of people only seem to care about his character on a surface level / in a way where they can turn his obvious mental illness into something sexy to use for gooner material and that's it.
I think a lot of people on fandom spaces forget that mental illness is a very real issue that people struggle with and not just something you can only care about when it fits into your fantasies. a lot of seongje writing is bordering on being offensive and idgaf if I'm being 'too woke' because as someone directly affected by those stereotypes, it's just weird as fuck to write him as this really cruel person, without taking into account that there is more behind it than that. his mental illness is only used for it to show how "dominant" he is and that he punishes people etc etc. it's weird. you are weird and I dont like you.
It's just ignorant and I don't know how people managed to miss out on how vulnerable of a character he is when the warehouse scene with baekjin literally exists (the one where he's like "you never once asked me if I'm okay" or something along the lines), but at this point I'm convinced it's ignored on purpose so they don't have to actually engage with his character on a deeper level. it stops you from writing smut when you realise that the character you write about is more than just a violent "freak".
it's really not that difficult to view mentally ill people as human beings, so I don't understand why this is such a difficult concept to grasp. I actually do, I lied. It's because most people write what they want the characters to do, rather than how they would actually act, which leads to this weird treatment of mental health.
I don't even think some of you realise how much it harms real people to write in such a non critical. it paints mental illness in such a bad way and like all there is to some people is violence and anger. there is already such a huge stigma around especially personality disorders, and you guys just….. contribute to it. maybe I'm more sensitive about this topic because I also have one, but it's just such an ignorant way of writing. what you post and how you portray things affects real people.
I have nothing against portraying such thing in a critical way. if anything, I even encourage people to THINK and actually engage with the topics they write about. but thats not what a lot of you guys do. it's just a romanticised version of mental illness / disorders, rather than showing the reality of it. I understand that writing is supposed to be fun, but your "fun" should not actually harm others. I think some of this even borders on ableism, even if most people wouldn't want to admit it to themselves that maybe they are being offensive with their lack of understanding for this. you are ignorant if you choose to write about mental illness for aesthetic purposes and in order to use it as something to romanticise and some of you guys have to put the pen down and do some research.
again, my writing is not flawless either, but at least I actively try to unpack my views and question my own morals and beliefs. it's such an important thing to do, especially in writing spaces where your fics and headcanons can not only heavily influence people's view on a character but also how people view the traits they have in reality.
a lot of writing in this community also reflects the internalised misogyny in fandom spaces but that's a conversation for another day.

I kind of fell bad for him like can u imagine being so in love with someone going to the ends of the earth just for them to not care at all about u. Then to add salt to the wound they are still hung up on their ex.
