Lena shivered as she hopped off the jet and pulled her parka closer around herself. making sure the craft was secured, she trudged toward the lone ranger that had been sent out to greet her. “Hiya, we spoke yesterday. Lena Oxton.” She shook the ranger’s hand. “Hear you have a friend of mine stayin’ here.”
“Yes, she’s been here for about a week. We’ve honestly been stumped by her appearance. By all accounts she shouldn’t even be alive.” The woman shook her head and gestured. “Nevermind. Right this way.” She motioned for Lena to follow and led the way to a hoverbike. Due to the harsh terrain, the airstrip had been positioned a ways away from the base which was sheltered in the shadow of a craggy rock outcropping some ways away.
“Well, with any luck, I’ll be taking her off your hands this afternoon. Thanks for keepin’ her safe til I could arrive.” Lena lowered her goggles over her eyes and climbed onto the bike behind the other woman.
On the ride to the base, Lena squirmed with excitement. She had heard so much about the climatologist from Winston. And, when she had heard nothing more of the woman before, after, or since the disbandment of Overwatch, she had assumed she would never have the chance to meet her. Now it seemed she would get her chance.
When they got to the base, Lena hopped off the bike and looked around. “Impressive place, ya’ got here,” she observed as her guide led her into one of the larger buildings.
“Thank you. Here is your friend. Ms. Zhou.”
Lena’s eyes swiveled to the woman the other had indicated and her face lit up in a bright smile. “Mei!” Blinking over, she seized the woman’s hand, shaking it profusely. “It’s an honor. Glad t’ see you’re still, you know.... alive and all. Winston and I were right surprised to hear from you.”
