Honestly, platform heels are absolutely not my favourite thing to wear for pole, but they are deeply connected to the history and modern context of pole. And if by wearing them I can show some people that it’s OK to not fit the “standard” template of masculinity or femininity, then that’s worth a bit of extra effort!

So, I am basically doxxing myself by sharing this, as this is linked to my real name, but - well, please don't stalk me, lol. (Charlotte is a pseudonym, which I have always said, precisely bc I don't want to get doxxed.)

But, desperate times. I am sharing my GoFundMe for my cat, Milo, who is currently quite sick and needing care. I've tapped myself out trying to care for him and do as much as I can at home, as I cannot swing a hospitalization, but it may come to that anyway.

My woke take, as someone who has worked in both a public library and a school library, is that we desperately need both more books that are at a higher reading level but a less mature subject matter, and more books that are at a lower reading level but a more mature subject matter, because 8 year olds who are advanced readers are still 8 year olds and don't want to read about graphic violence and torture, and teens and adults who have learning difficulties or who are just later readers for whatever reason are still teens and adults and don't want to read about Billy the Bunny going to school or whatever the hell.

One time I was ringing up this sweet older gentleman at the sex shop. I no longer remember what he was buying, just that he was in his fifties and radiated a bumbling gentleness that I had enjoyed.

He looked at me with utter awe, radiating a disbelieving joy that I’d parried his quip so effortlessly with Trekkie lore. “If I were thirty years younger…” he’d said, absolutely delighted.

I didn’t have the heart to tell him I was gay to boot, so I just beamed and wished him a good day. He went out the door with a spring in his step and I still smile to think about it.
