Friday 27th of March

Day 4 of Self-Isolation and Friday, but it didn’t feel like a normal Friday would. Those were you are exited because the weekend is almost here and your looking forward to no school/work and meeting your friend or going out. As usual I got up and did my morning routine before taking a seat at my desk were I got my tablet for school ready. Friday theme was nature vs nurture witch lead to some interesting discussions.

In between classes I FacetTimed with a friend back in Switzerland. It was interesting to hear how her last workday was before they closed the mall. She works as a hairdresser there and she had to work from 9am to 11pm because all her clients wanted to get their hair done before they closed. Friday afternoon after class I started doing my homework and then dinner, shower and of to my room and watching a movie before FaceTime with Stephanie and Kim till 2am in the morning.

Thursday 26th of March

On my 3rd day in Self-Isolation I started a routine so it would me more coordinated and feel a little like a school day then staying at home. I got up at 7:30 pm as I did the day before, brushed my teeth, washed my face and ate breakfast before setting everything up on my desk for school. As usual our lesson started at 8:30am and we were done by 10:30am, had a long break till 1pm and afternoon class till 14:30pm or so. This time we had Homework, we had to write our first essay about how the governments should prepare young adults for working life. At first I didn’t know where to start and how I should write it. But after talking to my Classmate and discussing how we should write it, I got a good start and was done with the essay before dinner and E-Mailed it to my Teacher. Dinner was as always very good, and luckily not spicy. Same evening routine as before; shower, movie, bed.

Wednesday 25th of March

8:30am, first day of Class with Zoom. Wow what a strange experience that was. Seeing everyone but at the same time not really seeing them. Our first lesson was mostly about finding out how the program works and for us to get familiar with it. Our Teachers asked us how we were and if we were okay. Even if we needed anything, that was very forthcoming and sweet. After we were done at around 10:30 we had a long break till 1pm. I made myself some rice with tuna for lunch.

At 1pm we talked with our afternoon teacher and did a little vocabulary. At around 2:30pm we were done and I went out of my room and walked around the living room. Later on I didn’t do much then some work and watched Netflix/Disney+. At around 7pm we had dinner, my Host-Mom is a very good cook and I like her food, but this time it was to spicy for me. My Host-Mom and Laura were laughing because for them it was to mild, I had to grab a glass of milk to help me finish my plate, I didn’t make it because it was to much spice in it. Then i took a shower and watched some more Netflix before skyping with my cousin who lives with her family in Netherlands and went of to bed around 12am.

Monday 23rd of March

So on Monday my Day started like it did since I stared school the week before. I got up at around 6 am, brushed my teeth, had breakfast and took the bus to the City and arrived at school around 8 am. I was talking to my dad on the phone while I waited for my classmates. We talked like usual and then headed to class. After Class we went to the Learning Centre like we usually to do our Homework, but you could tell that something was going on. After like 10min a Teacher told us that the Learning Centre would close earlier because there has been an announcement from Jacinda Ardern, the Prime Minister of New Zealand, saying that the Country will move to level 3 and after 48h to level 4. We were quite shocked and didn’t know what to do. Some wrote to their Host-Parents or their Parents others took it with ease. So after that we took pictures and said goodbye to some of our Classmates. Our small Group of 6 left the School Ground and headed toward Countdown. But as we got there, we saw a long queue and decided to go to the Liquor Store a little further and the small shop next to it, for some beer and food. After our visit to the shop we walked together to Queens Street and said our goodbyes there and each one of us went on their way Home. Back at home I was the first to arrive. Laura, also a Student at my Home Stay, was still out with her Friends and she would come home later today. Later in the evening I had dinner with my Host-Mom and then went to my room finished my homework and watched Netflix till late because I knew we didn’t have classes on Tuesday.
