Sometimes life gives you salt and I’ve been poured on plenty. My passion for astronomy and nature was always my escape, bringing me to places I’ve never dreamed of. Although I’ve been conflicted by things that have brought me down all my life, those passions among others have kept me sluggin on forward. These photos I've taken on my trails are dedicated to the two professors who always believed in me and saw the true me when I never could.

Prickly Pear Cactus Flower

The flowers bloom out of the cactus in a different array of colors of yellow, orange, pinks, and reds. Mine just happened to have been a beautiful mix. After the bloom fades, a fruit bulb forms, which you can eat! You would see a bunch of raspberry pinkish nubs growing all over, soft inside like a kiwi.

American Bison 

Took this on Catalina Island. Not native to the island, imported for a silent film in 1924 for The Vanishing American. Since being left there, populations got too high for Catalina's overall ecological health, but are now controlled. It is a native species that once roamed North America in massive herds, made almost extinct by commercial hunting, slaughter, and domestic cattle diseases.

Golden Jellyfish.

With no predators living in an isolated salt water lake, they lost their stingers and follow the sun gaining nutrition from photosynthetic algae in their tissues.
