I'll be adding three listings to the Yarn Cosplay Guild Pride Auction fundraising for The Trevor Project ! (psst, YOU could help me make #3 even cooler!)
đFirst, we have a commission for a plushie/prop/accessory of a value of $300 or more! This is a great opportunity to get a commission from me because they are super limited due to my intensely packed schedule!
đNext, a chance to decide what content gets put out first from my massive backlog of educational content to make. There are so many projects I've done with so many people eager for a tutorial. This is your chance to let me know that you really want a certain project to get the deep dive I am writing for it asap! While I will make the educational video and blog posts free to the public, to support future educational series I will be offering a build book full of even more notes, charts, and pictures to those interested and able to support my work. The winner of this item will receive this too!
đFinally, we are doing a huge pattern bundle. I'll be adding both my Guillotine purse pattern and my Spidey crop patter. I'm still taking pattern donations, so if you are interested please email a pdf of your pattern with pictures to promote to [email protected] *Patterns will be erased from my computer after the auction winner receives them!
I am so excited to be able to donate my work to this auction. This is such a meaningful way to celebrate Pride month! If you are interested in donating a physical or digital good to the auction before June 1st, please submit this form.
The auction runs the first two weeks of June!
Hey kid, look at me.
I want you to T-pose. Turn your right thumb up and your left thumb doen and look at your right thumb. Move your arms up and down a bit until you feel a nerve running from your armpit to your palm. Now turn your right thumb down and your left thumb up, and look at your left thumb. Keep your chest facing forward and your shoulders back. Move your arms again until you feel that nerve again. Keep alternating between these two for a minute, or look at each thumb thirty times each.
Now sit down. Put your left hand firmly under your left buttock, palm down. Keep your shoulders back and put your right hand over the crown of your head, very gently pulling it to the right. Do this for thirty seconds, then do it again but with your right hand under your right buttock.
These are stretches for the nerves in your arms, and are very good for people who sit behind a computer a lot, or fibre artists, or you name it. Do them daily. They will hurt in the beginning, but keep doing them, even after the pain has gone, or it will return and you'll have to start all over.
Reblogged this on both my blogs because nerve pain is so prevalent & I want everyone to feel better. â€ïž

When you crocheted a Tails cosplay and get to meet Tails đ„č
I gifted Colleen this little Tails Chao (pattern by Goichita on Etsy) and she was so excited that the ball glows in the dark đ
When I say - this was THE photo I was waiting to share đ
After the prizes were handed out, we all milled around the stage and photographers appeared from all angles - and I saw an opportunity to continue being my dweeby self đ€Ș
In other news, I have gone through the full spectrum of emotions regarding crochet, cosplay and competing - and being a judge in our own local competition (Heimar og Himingeimar) helped a lot. I am now able to redirect all these feelings back into productivity and have decided I'm gonna start making shoes. Like from scratch đ
But I'll start with Mirabel's espadrilles as the base of those is ACTUALLY crochet (gasp) đ±
I am of course still diligently working on queen Anna's dress but I had to frog 3 balls worth today lol
Ok so who wants to hear my NCC feedback đââïž
"We love how you use multiple stitches in your crochet style of costume, and how your thread tension is balanced so well. We would love to see you use other crafting methods for future cosplay projects and really make your craft shine."
So - as expected - the fact it was all made of crochet counted against me đ
On the plus side, now I know that my designing and cosplaying skills aren't the issue, so I'm just going to crochet even harder đȘ
Some more photos of my NCC 2024 performance!
This weekend I was fortunate enough to represent Iceland at the Nordic Cosplay Championship at NĂ€rCon in my fully crocheted Anna cosplay
She's here!
About 9 months of work and 100% crochet!
Yes... I did
A few tipps for crochet beginners
Start practicing with yarn in light colours. You won't see anything if you choose to start with black or a really dark brown for example
For the very first project I am suggesting coasters. You are able to practice basic stitches and get fast results. Just use natural fibers like cotton if you're drinking hot beverages like tea otherwise the coaster might stick to your cup. Avoid time consuming projects like blankets for your very first project as well.
Always count your stitches because it's not unusal that beginners lose stitches in the beginning and don't notice it at first.
Read the label of your yarn and use the recommended hooksize
If there are small holes in your project don't worry about it. It's normal that crochet has holes
For english patterns there are different words in british english and american english for the same stitch. Make sure that you're using the correct stitch when following a pattern.
AI pictures are being used for crochet patterns which means that your finished product will not look like in the picture. Make sure that the picture is actually real. Look at backgrounds and zoom in on the stitches. If there seems to be no system in which the stitches were made it's likely fake. The lack of texture is also a big red flag. When I doubt ask other people who crochet. My DMs are open as well if you're unsure whether AI was used (of course as AI is getting better it get's more difficult to recognize it so mistakes on my side might be made).
If you use more than one skein of the same yarn for the same project make sure it's the same lot number. The lot number tells you the dying batch of that exact yarn. Yarns from different batches might vary in colour even if it's technically the same shade and it's gonna be noticible
Only buy what you need at the time. I know with haul culture and social media you might get the idea that you need all the yarn you can get your hands on but that's not true! I am not perfect either but everyone should try to refrain from overconsumption and I myself at a point where I say it's too much so I am not buying anything new for a while...so yeah make sure that you don't even reach that point :D
In the end I needed to wait 2 days for some *actual* daylight - but here's Barbie, ready for the Icelandic winter!
(Don't worry about my legs, I have fleece tights on!)
Aside from working on commissions, I have been toiling away on this vintage pattern coat.
So a little explanation: as you probably know by now, I run a party princess company called @prinsessur.is . This year we added Barbie to our lineup, however Iceland isn't exactly favourable to a summer dress most of the year.
So after trawling (and I mean TRAWLING) the internet for a coat pattern that had just the right Jackie Kennedy look (very 60s inspired like a lot of the costume design in the Barbie movie) I eventually came across this one on Etsy.
Of course, being a vintage pattern, some tweaking was needed. The collar was very... Interesting. But it fit me on the first try which is pretty dang impressive.
WAIT WAS IT NOT A COINCIDENCE THAT I WAS REMINDED OF THIS PATTERN I HAVE
That is the EXACT pattern yes đ

Are we sharing our crocheted Halloween costumes?
I've started a tradition of making group cosplays on Halloween and this year made Gingham Barbie (for myself), Weird Barbie (for my friend) (and Cowgirl Barbie but unfortunately that friend couldn't make it tonight).
All 100% crochet plus some poster paint for Weird Barbie
I'm finally making my return to tumblr after checking out for a few years! I used to go by the handle The Scarlet Stitch across socials.
I've been making crochet cosplay since 2014 and crocheting for even longer. However, in 2019, while in the third year of a fiber art degree with a focus on crochet, I was hit by a car and forced to drop out. I couldn't use my hands for basic tasks let alone working on a degree or any new cosplays. In my torment of losing my ability to make art I took down a lot of my online presence.
After years of physical therapy, and traditional therapy, along with coming to terms that my abilities look different now, I have once again started making crochet cosplays. I am also back to sharing what I know and what I learn along the way!
The above photo is of the crochet gown I stitched for several months to celebrate seeing Taylor Swift perform on May 21st at the Gilette stadium.
This week I'll be taking this gown to be showcased at the H+H Americas show in Chicago.
TDLR: I am back to crocheting costumes after an accident took that away from me for a bit and this is my latest large scale project!
Crocheted Evening Dress
Kostio de War
c.1938
Capitalizing on a broader enthusiasm for hand knitting that emerged in the mid-1930s, [Kostio de War] became famous for her unique hand-knit and crocheted evening gowns. Initially, she explored the idea in chenille thread, pairing sheaths in âloose, large mesh patternsâ over slips of âlacquered satin,â as Womenâs Wear Daily described in 1935. A sometimes enthusiast for surreal touches, she competed briefly with Elsa Schiaparelli for headlines, particularly when the latter also introduced several hand-knitted pieces in her winter 1935 collection. The U.S. press, however, found several distinct virtues in the elegantly practical garments made by Kostio de War: the dresses could be easily rolled up for travel and resisted wrinkling, while her heavier knitted metallic evening jackets could quickly dress up a simple dinner dress. In 1937, Paris-Soir reported on the popularity and practicality of knitted garments for sport as well as for evening wear, writing, âThe more we lead busy lives, the more precious handmade goods become.â They announced that Mme. Kostio de War had recently unearthed in central Europe an amusing book from about 1830 containing instructions for a variety of unusual historical stitches, which she had used in crafting her latest collection: âFor evening, she has created with threads of copper, steel, [and] platinum, gowns of the most rare sumptuousness.â In 1938, Denise Veber of the French paper Marianne called these âmiracleâ evening gowns of gold or silver very simple, but nevertheless of an almost magical (fĂ©erique) appearance. To answer the FAQs:
- it took me about 9 months
- it weighs 3.7kg
- the embroidery is almost exact, I based it off of screenshots and concept art
- yes it is ALL crochet (with some felting and some i-cord)
If you would like to help out with the non-crochet parts of our cosplays consider buying us a coffee
