Day 30 - Your top 5 favorite episodes
We have reached the end at last! So without further ado...
5. Lemons It just makes me laugh a lot. It’s definitely a go-to comfort ep for me.
4. Thanks for the Memory It’s just sort of a perfect episode.
3. Stoke Me a Clipper I don’t think this one needs an explanation honestly.
2. The Promised Land I know it isn’t perfect, but I mean... Moonlight. Come on. I can watch this one over and over and over.
1. Dimension Jump Definitely only recently became my favorite, and that mostly has to do with Ace, but this is another one that I just watch on repeat and is definitely my main comfort episode. And again, it’s sort of a perfect episode.
It will come as a surprise to no one that these episodes have already gotten shoutouts from me in previous days of this challenge, as they’re all my favorite episodes from their respective seasons. Rounding out the top ten however is Parallel Universe in 6th place, Terrorform in 7th place, The End in 8th place, Marooned in 9th place and Better Than Life in 10th. And considering season 2 is my favorite season, it should come as no surprise that my top 10 episodes include three episodes from it.

Day 29 - Cat or Kryten?
Another easy one, whoops. I really do love Kryten, and I feel like I’m ripping out my heart by even making this choice, but it’s gotta be Cat. I think what it comes down to for me is that robot-who-wants-to-become-more-human is such a common trope. And believe me, I love it. And Kryten still manages to be unique and lovable and iconic. But there is no one like Cat. From his origins, to his personality, to his suits, to the way he interacts with the rest of the crew, he’s just a star. I know that opinions are subjective but I still can’t help but feel like “Cat is the best character” should just be an objective fact.
Still though, they’re both amazing and it wouldn’t be Red Dwarf without either of them.

Day 28 - Starbug or Blue Midget?
Well, this is easy. Nothing against Blue Midget, but we just don’t see it enough for me to have any sort of sentimental attachment. Starbug, on the other hand, was there home for two whole seasons, and so many other episodes have had their most iconic moments on Starbug. I just love it.

Day 27 - Rimsy or Listy?
Y’know, I sort of had to do this once already for the day that was “fav crew member” and I picked Lister, and I stand by that. But when it’s phrased like this, asking me to choose between the two of them like this...
I can’t, and I won’t. There would be no story without them both, and I think what happened in season 7 is proof of that (both in character, and behind the scenes considering after Blue everything in that season was pretty not good). They go together, no matter how you interpret their dynamic, you can’t have one without the other, and it’s always going to be Rimsy and Listy for me.

Day 26 - Favorite quote
In the WHOLE show??? God, that’s an impossible feat wtf.
Ummm. Okay.
There are classics, there are iconics, there are ones that hit you right in the feels, there are absolutely hysterical ones...
and then there’s “the slime’s coming home!” which somehow manages to be all four.
i don’t think i’m the only one to pick that one, with good reason. it’s a classic, being the final line of the very first episode. it’s iconic much for the same reason, and that it’s just so bizarre and one of those lines you’ll only Get if you were paying enough attention a little earlier to the remark about slime. and it’s funny because... i mean, lister says it so SERIOUSLY, while grabbing cat, and rimmer stands there looking annoyed in the background.
which is why, when RIMMER says it at the end of season 10, it hits so much harder. he’s grown SO much, season 10 sees a lot of personal growth for him i think. and the fact that he remembers lister saying that from all those years ago and brings it back full circle is so amazing to me??? and it’s also just a really really great way to end the season, considering there wasn’t another for what, four years? and there was no way of knowing if there WOULD be more. so if it HAD been the end of the show, what an absolutely perfect way to close it out.

- “Souper!” in Me2, with the hug 🥺 I really really love that one
- The opening of Stoke Me a Clipper where Chris keeps not being able to light his cigarette and eventually just waves and walks away
- this classic, from thanks for the memory
For “what happened in Series 8” - 1) A computer predicts that Rimmer is going to die. 2) Kryten briefly goes to Silicon Heaven but they throw him out for being too arrogant. 3) Hollister gives Rimmer and Lister 8 months PD.

a fun new red dwarf ask game
so tonight i realized that i remember season 8 a lot less than i thought, and i’ve seen the whole thing twice in the last 5 months. obviously, i hate that entire season and i honestly don’t even like talking about it much. but i made a comment about how i needed someone to explain every single plot point to me because i just didn’t get it. a friend summarized the plot of only the good for me and i came to the realization that i didn’t remember ANY of it. my brain LITERALLY blocked it out. and frankly, that goes for most of the season, but only the good and the petes especially.
which leads me to this fun ask game…..
send me a plot point, either something that happened in season 8 or something completely made up….. and i will try to guess if it’s real or not (and what episode i think it happened in) and u guys can tell me if i’m right or not.
For Reasons, Cat tries to seduce another male prisoner. It works. ;)
