Ask a young trans/questioning person
Are you a young trans/gender non-conforming or questioning person who would like the advice of other young trans people on any topic, from coming out at school, to health care, self-care or finding support?
Here at Gendered Intelligence we run several youth groups across England every month. Coming along to a youth group can be a great opportunity to learn from the experience of other young trans/gender non-conforming or questioning young people. Unfortunately, not everyone has access to a local trans or LGBT group.
We want to share the knowledge and experience of our groups to benefit a wider network of young trans and/or non-binary and questioning young people. If you have a question that you would like other young people to answer, submit it anonymously below and we will try out best to take it along to our next youth group.
We have a 16-25 group in London, an under 16 group in London, a group for trans people of colour aged 13-25 in London and groups in Bristol and Leeds. If you would like to direct your question to a particular group, mention which one at the end of your question.
2-3 answers will be posted every Friday afternoon on our tumblr, Facebook and Twitter (@GIYouthGroup) once we get responses.

Transgender Americans Have Been Registering Their Transitions With Social Security Since 1936
Transgender rights may seem like the hot new issue in America today, but transgender people have been around—and have been making contact with the government—for at least the past few generations. That’s according to a fascinating analysis published last week by the United States Census Bureau.
For the analysis, Census Bureau economist Benjamin Cerf Harris looked through Social Security Administration data dating back to the administration’s inception in 1936. Harris sought records of people who had changed their first names from something that’s strongly associated (at least 90 percent of the time) with one gender, to something that’s strongly associated with another gender. He found that, since 1936, more than 135,000 Americans have putatively transitioned genders and registered a new name with Social Security as part of their transition. At least a few folks make this change in every year of Harris’ data. Read more.

Cuomo: Schools must be safe for transgender, other students
ALBANY, N.Y. – New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has given the state Education Department a month to show how it will make sure schools are safe places for transgender students, according to a news release from the governor’s office. Cuomo – reacting to a recent report that transgender and other student are harassed and discriminated against in school – said Sunday he wants a plan of what the department will do within a week. He also gave the department a month to complete a review of the department’s compliance with the Dignity for All Students Act, an anti-bullying and anti-discrimination law. “Your department is tasked with ensuring our children receive a quality education, and a significant part of this responsibility is ensuring they have a safe and harassment-free environment where they can learn and grow,” Cuomo said in the statement.

Newbie Andrew
Hello. My name is Andrew (for now, still deciding on an official name) and I am a trans guy. He/him pronouns. I am pre-T sadly. I'm 16 from Ohio. I play a lot of Minecraft and League Of Legends in my free time. I look forward to helping out with the blog.
If you missed last night's episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, you simply must watch his segment on transgender people and trans rights.

The Irish are on a roll when it comes to LGBT rights, now recognizing the right for transgender citizens to self-identify on government ID.
New to the party.
Hello! I go by Cheshire. Some of you might know me from Wonderlanders for Mental Health. I am 30 years old living in east Tennessee in the USA. I am a ciswoman who uses she/her pronouns. I like to read, with Alice in Wonderland being my favorite. I love playing video games, mostly Pokemon right now; as well as watching Markiplier and JackSepticEye on Youtube. I try to do what I can to help GRSM* and try to learn what I can.
(*GRSM means Gender, Romantic, and Sexual Minorities.)

Time for a reboot
I just recently(less than a week ago) decided to change my chosen name because it was too traditional for me. The only problem is, sometimes I spell my name wrong by one letter and pronounce it a bit off. It's just an alternative spelling and slightly different pronunciation for a popular name. Do you think after a while it'll get easier to say/spell correctly? It's embarrassing for me to mess up my own name(no matter how new) haha
Totally. I did the same thing for a while switching to Merry and again when I started going by Mark some places. You might try randomly signing things (you don't plan on doing anything with) or just saying it out loud to practice.
