I think people would be less suicidal if they were allowed to talk about being suicidal without risk of being sent to the Torture Dungeon
your blorbos don't have to be romantic to love each other (#platonic love wins) but also they don't have to love each other to be romantic. ship those characters as a loveless marriage. make their feelings tragically one-sided with no hope of change. put them in a dead end relationship that they both know needs to end but neither are willing to admit it yet. more bad ships forever. its enrichment for me.
dont talk to me or my clone or my shadow self or my reflection or my me ever again
okay well maybe i like it when the love is grotesque and awful and overwhelming and inescapable. maybe thatâs the point.
maybe iâm aromantic and all romance feels like this anyway, so iâm not put off of still calling it love when it ruins everything in its path and drags people down with it and twists itself into every fibre of their beings until they canât take a single breath without feeling like love is wrapped around their lungs and squeezing slowly, slowly, without relief. maybe iâm not calling it love as an inherently good thing. maybe love is a terrible thing. from latin, terribilisâfrightful. dreaded. unendurable.
Contrary to popular belief the biggest beginner's roadblock to art isn't even technical skill it's frustration tolerance, especially in the age of social media. It hurts and the frustration is endless but you must build the frustration tolerance equivalent to a roach's capacity to survive a nuclear explosion. That's how you build on the technical skill. Throw that "won't even start because I'm afraid it won't be perfect" shit out the window. Just do it. Just start. Good luck.
watching stuff with kids in it and talking to adults about kids is so fucking weird as someone who works with kids. it is extremely transparent that very few people ever interact with kids, so they just fully forget what they're like and lump them into a broad category of essentially toddlers with different levels of speech capability.
I genuinely believe the stringent age-based separation most of us are experiencing is one of the single most destructive forces in our society. you need to interact with people of all ages regularly or you start to get all "think of the children" and "parent's rights" and fucking "11 year olds can't comprehend basic ratios". or, worse and frankly way more common for leftists, "I hate kids they're so annoying" or "kids are fine I just never want to interact with them if I can help it".
They are people. they have complex thoughts and emotions and knowledge. they are aware of the political goings on in the world, and they think deeply and talk frequently about the issues that impact you (often because those issues impact them as well, but often even when they don't!). they share space with you in your communities, locally and online, whether you're aware of them or think of them as part of your communities or not.
you need to talk to them regularly so you can remember that they are people, the ways in which they are people, the kinds of people they are, the needs they have, and how to advocate for them in a society that increasingly flattens them to varying sizes of toddler. or, if nothing else, so you can share your communities with them instead of expecting them to take what they can get and fit themselves in however makes you, personally, most comfortable.
otherwise you get weird and start talking like a republican.
if you see me liking contradicting headcanons for the same character just know it's because I do not give a fuck and I have an active imagination #hewouldsaythat
sometimes itâs not about âwould he say that or do thatâ itâs more like that would be hilarious if he did because I have a jesterâs heart
special effects are too good now because as we left the theater after Project Hail Mary my mom was like "it's really impressive that Ryan Gosling was the only actor on screen for most of that movie" and I was confused for several seconds thinking "what about the giant crab that played Rocky?"
No but like, fr this is the power of puppetry. This is why people are regularly accidentally mic-ing Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy instead of their actors. This is why Labyrinth and Farscape and Little Shop of Horrors hold up. We all spent two and a half hours convinced that that little spider rock dude was real, because James Ortiz and his team created the sort of incredible acting chemistry with Ryan Gosling that can only happen with a real guy who actually occupies physical space
My greatest tragedy is that I literally always want a nap, right up until ten pm, when I feel utterly alive and electrified.
Itâs 10:31pm and I will live forever. What do you mean I have to be at my doctorâs appointment at 7:10am. Who are you. Why are you Satan
people will say "gender is socially constructed even though the experience of gender is real" but then an antipsychiatrist says "mental illness is socially constructed even though the symptoms are real" and suddenly the same people are confused.
it's the same concept. these categories are made up and subjective. psychiatrists across the globe can't even agree on these things- there are multiple different books used to diagnose mental illness that define mental illness differently.
the experience of depression is real but the category "major depressive disorder" is a social construct.
i havenât been real for a few days thinking about becoming real again soon though
closing statement from an article about being intersex & the possible connection of gender expression and sexuality in intersex individuals, published in The Gay Liberator, 1970s
[ID: a picture of an article that says, âHopefully gay liberation will continue to raise confusing issues until the world at large becomes so confused and befuddled about sex and gender and all that people can finally stop worrying if "it's a boy or a girl" and get around to being free to be and to love people.â /end ID]
Lawyer energy... they train you to do this in law school and it not only makes the tendency worse but makes you overpoweringly good at it the longer you're in the lawyer field. Lawyers all do this for fun with each other all the time but if you apply it to a civilian you have to use caution and deploy a lot of gentle affirmations to keep them in the game.
This is why a lot of lawyers end up affable storytellers among mixed company.
You ever hear that old chestnut about how most people neglect the part of the story of Icarus where he also had to avoid flying too low, lest the spray of the sea soak his feathers and cause him to fall and drown? You ever think about how different the world would be if Icarus died that way instead? If the idiom was to Fly To Close To The Sea? A warning against playing it far too safe, about not stretching your wings and soaring properly? You ever think about how Icarus died because he was happy?
I have a disease called if the author tells me this world is good and then doesnât examine the power structures involved I start looking for the Omelas hole
What helped me write trauma better is remembering that the nervous system learns predictions. If danger used to come after quiet, calm can feel threatening. If kindness used to come with a price, kindness can feel suspicious. So healing is not just âthey know theyâre safe now.â Healing is the slow, annoying, deeply unfair process of teaching the body that the old prediction is not always the present truth.
