My name is Nizar Abu Hamad, and I come from the village of Abasan al-Kabira, located in the east of Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip. Like many in Gaza, I experienced displacement from my home on the third day of the war. My family and I initially moved to an apartment in the west of Khan Yunis, but we were soon displaced again, this time to a school, and then for a third time to Rafah following the army's entry into Khan Yunis. This war took a heavy toll on my family, with the loss of several loved ones such as my grandfather, my uncle and my cousins …
I am a proud high school graduate, having achieved a 99.4 grade point average in the scientific stream. My aspiration has always been to study medicine in Germany. With this goal in mind, I began learning German at the Goethe Institute. However, the war intervened, devastating not only my dreams but also my neighborhood, my city, and the language institute where I studied. Four months of my life and my aspirations seemed to have been in vain. To this day, my future remains uncertain.
Despite my efforts to leave Gaza to continue my language studies and reclaim what I've lost, I've faced immense challenges. Leaving via the crossing is prohibitively expensive and fraught with hurdles. The war has compounded these difficulties, leaving us in a dire situation.
With all this in mind, I humbly make a small request. I hope for assistance in leaving Gaza, not just for my sake,
