What the fuck is it about the 80s that just made people lose it
If only there were some sort of clue…
Just thought I'd let you know the USTS Survey is up. It's pretty long but it has a question on detransition.
Yeah, I attempted to take it on Oct 19th, the morning it came out. But I'm not sure it totally worked, though... I'm kinda convinced it didn't give me the full survey due to how I identified myself at the beginning. I sent them an email about it to ask, but haven't heard back. 🤷♀️
When I took the survey as a trans man back in 2015, it was in-depth. It asked questions about school & workplace experiences, homelessness, police interactions, harassment & violence, experiences in restrooms, and so on... it was super involved, took a long time to fill out.
But this one, I finished in 5 minutes or so. I told it I don't identify as trans or nonbinary, and don't identify as a "gender other than the one assigned at birth". Marked myself as gender-nonconforming woman, filled in the 'other' box with "detransitioned woman". It gave me two free-text boxes (one about Discrimination, and one about Affirmation/Acceptance), asked basic demographic questions (race, religion, income). And then it told me that's it and gave me the submit button.
It didn't go over any of the stuff it did last time I took it, and certainly never asked about detransition -- so if it asked anon about it, that further confirms to me that I was not given the full survey.
My day-to-day life is closest to that of a trans man, but that's not what I call myself, and I'm not going to list an identity I don't use in order to take the survey. It would be inaccurate. Detransitioning tends to involve a shift in identity, and if they can't accommodate that, that's a limitation of their survey they should be up-front and clear about.
If they only ask participants about experiences with detransitioning after they've marked that they identify as trans, then that means they're only interested in people who detransitioned temporarily & retransitioned later, or detransitioned and still identify as some form of trans. That doesn't include those of us who have jumped ship from IDing as trans altogether.
So... yeah. I dunno, I was pretty disappointed. The USTS is the most commonly cited source for statistics on detransition. But if I can't even access the survey without fudging up how I identify myself, that doesn't bode well for the survey's accuracy. (This is especially frustrating to me because I know multiple other detrans women have written about this before.)
Part of me still hopes it's just a bug or oversight, and I'll hear back from them about what happened? Hopefully they're just busy? But I'm not holding my breath -- if I held my breath every time I felt excluded from something and reached out in good faith, I'd have suffocated a loooong time ago.
i am extremely fucking angry and sorry to inform you that i identified myself as nonbinary and got the full survey which was approximately 45 minutes and covers everything you listed above wrt school and work experiences, discrimination in healthcare, concerns about interactions with medical professionals and police etc etc
the survey is designed to manipulate the data in a way that's really dishonest and i'm not sure what to do about it but i'm PISSED and i want to YELL about it
I was going to include every tweet, but I realized fast it would be far too long. There are 55 tweets. Read them all here

“both parties are the same” rhetoric made more sense when the Democrats had Joe Lieberman and the Republicans had Lincoln Chaffee.
The Republicans who are furthest to the “left” are extreme right wingers who nonetheless believe that Donald Trump is a criminal. That’s what we’re dealing with. The ones furthest to the right are openly Nazis.
The Democrats who are furthest to the “right” are assholes who want Joe Biden to kowtow to them and have probably been bought off by Big Energy, but they’re not running around dissing him in public and their presence allows us to get legislation onto the floor at all, because otherwise Mitch McConnell would just block it. The ones furthest to the left want UBI and universal health care. None of them are fascists. If any of them are white supremacists they are very very very closeted about it, and none of them have a voting record that suggests it.
Also, Republicans nationwide are in favor of policies that suppress the vote, or outright ignore it in favor of just declaring Republicans the winners anyway regardless of how the vote goes, and Democrats nationwide are in favor of policies that ensure that all legal voters are allowed to vote and are counted.
The parties are no longer remotely the same.
i saw a tiktok from a guy who said that he read too much CO2 makes you stupid and that made him worry about the CO2 levels in his home office so he got a CO2 meter and found the CO2 in his office was like 3000 ppm and he opened a window and it went down to 660 ppm. I already am a person who insists on opening the window every so often because it just seems like something you should do because fresh air seems instinctively good to have ,and everyones like “stop opening the windows youre making it so humid in here!” Now i am validated. I need oxygen!
Im literally about to buy a co2 meter
Omg I saw this same tik tok and I’ve been paranoid at work today bc none of our windows open and I’m like trapped in this building for 8 hours straight. I hope im not falling for misinformation lmao
hehehe hoohoohoo, here we don’t have to worry about that because our houses are built to let the wind right through :)))))
but yeah, here’s an article
CO2 in bedrooms and offices may affect cognition and cause kidney and bone problems
I was watching a video on how traumatic the pregnancy and childbirth is for female body, and they introduced the stats on how even a few hours of psychological therapy afterwards helps women significantly to feel better. The video was basically saying, yes, it’s traumatic, even if it’s a natural part of life, and women’s symptoms would significantly decrease if they were offered minimal therapeutic assistance.
It didn’t go very far into it, but I got the sense that the reason women were feeling traumatized in the first place, wasn’t just because their body was hurting and injured, but they were convinced that they have no reason to feel bad, or to be traumatized by this experience. They believed that they’re the only ones who are feeling the trauma symptoms, who are not okay and absolutely terrified of ever being pregnant again. They believed if they complained or expressed themselves about how traumatic it was for them, they would be considered whiny and exaggerating, they would be told to get over themselves and that it couldn’t have been so bad.
It’s the simple act of someone understanding, reassuring them, telling then they’re not the only one, and caring for how they’re doing, that lessens the impact of trauma and makes it easier to withstand, and less terrifying to go through.
And I thought, well how did we even get to this point? How did we get to the point where women are told to get over themselves and get accused of being whiny or exaggerating when they’ve just been through something traumatic? Why would they believe themselves to be the only ones to feel this bad, if the experience is so incredibly common, and it makes sense it would be traumatic?
It’s because we’re so separated from each other and constantly exposed to males. In a female-only community, there would be zero misconceptions about pregnancy and childbirth, because nobody would need women to shut up and downplay their own pain. There would be no reason to shut up about it or pretend, we would all be keeping each other company and actively discussing every single feeling that majority of us goes through. There would never be a situation where a woman, isolated from all other women, has to believe she’s the only one experiencing female-specific problems or feelings that make her feel like a bad person. No woman would have to feel unworthy of being cared for.
All of those myths, each and one of them is created and distributed by males. Only a male will tell a woman she’s exaggerating when she’s in severe distress after going through a pregnancy and childbirth. Only a male would try to convince her that she’s the only one feeling bad and tell her what is ‘natural’ for her to feel. Only a male would need a woman to immediately be emotionally ready to take care of him and the child, and thus would feel justified in dismissing her trauma, because it’s in the way of his convenience.
Only in a world where women are isolated from each other, and exposed in close proximity to males and male perspective, could this type of trauma be born and perpetuated. And the best we can do to soothe it right now, is to give the woman a few hours of therapy, so she knows that she’s not the only one, and doesn’t have to live burdened with the sever guilt of being ‘not good enough’ for males. And most women won’t even get that. Most women will swallow it and go over their limits and store trauma in their body until it builds up in their system and eats away at their life.
We deserve better. Women deserve better. This is just a tip of the iceberg of the pain women have to go through because of separation, because of males, and because we’re forced to look at ourselves thru their perspective, which is the perspective of convenience and usefulness to them. We do not exist for them. We have the right to have a community of our own.
the newest generation of girls are spending even MORE on clothes, shoes, makeup, and ‘skincare’. femininity really is getting worse, we have actual stats now. they have less money (parents are only buying this stuff for them 60% of the time), less useful or self fulfillment items (boys are buying things like games, electronics, sports stuff), less time, and more anxiety around their appearance.
going backwards.
this post suddenly getting a burst of notes is great because it’s relevant to my thrifting post. gen z teens are LESS sustainable and more consumerist than their predecessors. i don’t exactly blame them, they’re kids, where are their parents, but social media (esp tiktok and insta) plays a massive part in hyper-consumerism to ‘fit in’ and keep up with trends and get views and likes and always view yourself from an external lens, where you always have to be part of an aesthetic.
hey you're like. really passionate about small dogs so. why are Chihuahuas always so angry??? it's just confusing. why are they so mad?
i fucking love chihuahuas, man. i think there are a few factors involved, but i think the problem first and foremost is how chihuahuas are treated by humans.
chihuahuas are rarely allowed to be real dogs. they are treated like decorations and accessories and stuffed animals and cute little novelties
so not only are they rarely trained or thoughtfully socialized and taught to be comfortable with different things, but their autonomy and sense of personal safety is very often disregarded or intentionally threatened by the people around them
people pick them up with little consideration for the dog’s feelings, manhandle them at will and physically force them to comply with human desires. sometimes people intentionally antagonize them because they think it’s funny – for a while there was a very popular Tik Tok by some twenty-somethings dedicated to harassing and frightening an elderly, disabled chihuahua because he made funny noises when he was upset and uncomfortable.
it only stopped because the dog died.
the people responsible claimed to “love” the dog.
chihuahuas’ attempts to communicate discomfort are almost always ignored. dogs usually start out with relatively subtle body language that most people don’t ever learn to read. they might have the whites of their eyes showing, or yawn and lick their lips, or look away, or pin their ears down, or get tense. and when chihuahuas do this, it is almost always disregarded.
so they learn that polite and subtle communication of their discomfort gets ignored, and they start to escalate in an effort to be understood. they might start to growl or snap or bite. they might learn that the best defense is a good offense, that people who approach them are rude and frightening and the only way to get them to back off is to try and be intimidating.
and a lot of the time even that doesn’t work. because hey, look, the chihuahua is growling. isn’t that funny and cute and nonthreatening
there’s more involved but fundamentally at the end of the day, the issue is that chihuahuas are often profoundly mistreated for their entire little lives, psychologically and physically, with no way to communicate or be understood or have their boundaries and needs respected.
and as much as people have made ~aggressive chihuahuas~ into a funney meme, i think that’s fucking tragic.
i’d want to bite people too.
This is spot on. If you learn that the only way you're going to get any bodily autonomy is to use your teeth, you're going to be very willing to bite. If you're never listened to when you say "no" to something without growling and snapping, that's going to be your go-to.
Because little dogs can't do the same level of physical harm as bigger dogs, people tend to laugh off their very genuine distress and anger. It's absolutely not okay, and it's way too popular on social media.
My rule of thumb is always that if you wouldn't do something with a 75lb dog, you shouldn't do it with a 5lb one. And it's never too late to start! Even littles that you've had forever can benefit from being allowed more voluntary engagement in their world, more choices to consent to things, and more freedom to say no.
A Texan discovers how voting needs to be in all states! I live in a red state and I am angry too.
Good news! If your state doesn’t have this, you can go to Vote411.org, input your address and get information on registration deadlines, polling places and what’s on the ballot. Worth checking out!
Imagine how mad all Americans would be when they learned that "voter registration" is weird as fuck and most countries just give you an ID and you're automatically registered because you are obviously a citizen
They send a letter to your house when you turn 18 informing you that you can now vote and where to go to do so. Voting days are holidays for everyone too. So yeah
“Why can’t parents see their children’s pain?”
“I’ve had to ask myself the same thing. It’s because we haven’t seen our own.”
Gabor Maté, When the Body Says No: Understanding the Stress-Disease Connection
One time a friend told me that if she wanted to have a chill night she would come to me and ask for tea and a book to read. I didn’t like tea at the time, but I always made sure my cupboards had them in case she needed a quiet night. One time I told my boss that I loved oranges, but couldn’t peel them because of my nails. For a year he made sure to peel me one at least once a week. Once my friends gave me a made up superlative of “most likely to have a pen they could borrow” and ever since I’ve made sure I always carry a pen with me. A long time ago, my high school librarian told me that no one would care what my grade in my sophomore chemistry class was if I’m bringing them doughnuts and asking them about their day.
Sometimes friendship is about carrying pens and peeling oranges. But the point is, surrounding yourself with people who you want to do the little things for. The point of it all is bringing in the doughnuts because you’ve found the people who deserve the doughnuts.
And I’m so fucking lucky, and I don’t always say it or even think it. Because I have friends who send me letters and who told me when the cafeteria at work had chopped tomatoes and who want to watch Scream with me and it just hits me sometimes that this world can do the ugliest things to people, but as long as I still have a friend who will point out dogs on the sidewalks to me then I have something amazing to live for. And as long as I have pals who I want to make peppermint bark for, then I have a reason to keep pushing this world to be better.
what's baffling to me is how leftists aren't willing to call amouranth's situation human trafficking. her husband forced her under threat to work 20 hours a day, and has full control of her money. that's textbook trafficking. then you have the onlyfans, which she states she wanted to quit a year ago but her husband made her continue. that's sex trafficking. she was made to do sex acts she did not want to and her boyfriend took that money.
Disability advocates are warning that a case going before the U.S. Supreme Court could severely threaten the rights of millions of people who rely on Medicaid and other government programs.
“Protecting their right to private action when such rights are violated would ensure they aren’t unnecessarily institutionalized and prevent the unraveling of anti-discrimination progress set forth by the ADA for over 30 years.“
Imagine yourself.
You are 14. You want to try dating. You wouldn’t want to date an 11 year old though, right? No, no way. You want someone your age!
At 15, an 11 year old is out of the question! That’s just silly. Even 12 is too little– you might even have a younger sibling that age. Gross!
At 16, would you date someone who is 13? (a middle schooler). You wouldn’t, right? As a high schooler, 13 is just a baby.
This phenomenon is NOT lost on adults. Take it from someone who IS one. As an adult, anyone who is a teenager is a child to us. This is not meant to be condescending; adults see teenagers as people who have growing to do. People who are so much younger, immature even. Small like a younger sibling who needs protecting. If you are underage, and an adult tells you that they see you as an adult and are attracted to you because of it, THIS IS A LIE. They see you as a child. If an adult tells you that they see you, who is underage, as an adult, stay away. That person is attracted to children. That person is a pedophile.
The fake tumblr history posts about Stonewall just being accepted as real now is still so crazy to me. Literally discourse that changed the world
