Making a Pillager’s Crossbow Break: An Experiment

Hi Mineblr, Karp here. So I heard that a Pillager’s crossbow could break, and then they’d just hold their arms out and become passive. I’ve heard stories! Seen screenshots! But I wanna see it for myself! So let’s hit up the nearest outpost!

⬑Here we have captured our Pillager (plus one cow). Their friends came over a few times to see what was up, so I had to move them farther away. Now comes the part where I dodge and block all their arrows for days until the bow breaks.

⬑Day 2, I’ve devised a system to help me NOT get shot as much, works pretty well

⬑Day 3, I’ve improved the system and- oh?? The Pillager has stopped shooting…

⬑UM- o-okay so it finally broke but um- Okay you know maybe it’s just a glitch because they’re in the boat if I get them out I’m sure it’ll be

⬑OH GOD OH F*CK S*IT NO OH GOODNESS

⬑I’ve momentarily gone creative so I could get a temporary nametag on the now armless Pillager (there’s NO way I’m loosing them) because I forgot to bring one. I’ll give them a better name later.

⬑I tried to exit and re enter the game in hopes that the Pillager’s arms would return to us, sadly that is not what happened, they are still armless. However the rumors hold true. The Pillager, despite their situation, is not hostile towards me and just roams around. 

This experiment has been somewhat of a success. It seems that the Pillager got so tired of shooting that their arms, literally, could fall off. I might bring them back to my base and build them a house there, or maybe make them a house here? I haven’t decided yet.

summary of minecon announcements for java:

- honey blocks. you cannot jump while on these and you can slide down walls easily

- target blocks, which when hit emit a redstone signal

- Nether overhaul! 2 new biomes announced as well as new pigmen (piglins) and a new hostile mob which is temporarily called a piglin beast

- mountains won the biome vote, which means that we will get the mountains update soonish

Badlands / Mesa

- Tumbleweeds! They roam the land.

- Vultures! They fly around looking for loot to claim as their own. Watch your stuff around these birds.

- Pretty cacti! These cacti have multiple branching arms and cute pink flowers!

Swamp

- Chests in boats! You can find loot in these, including music discs. Possibility of furnaces and other blocks in boats as well.

- Mangrove trees! While similar looking to the already existent swamp oak trees, these trees have an expansive root system. Possibility of new plank type.

- FROGS! This speaks for itself- though it should be noted that they can stick out their long tongues as well!

Mountains

- New snow! You’ll sink through these snow blocks when you walk on them.

- New terrain! Massive update for mountain terrain. Looks like they could add swirling spires.

- Goats! They jump around atop the mountains.

Actually, there is nothing “pussy” about being scared of Minecraft, and the game actually offers a really good horror atmosphere. The idea that you are alone in an inherently hostile and alien world where there is nothing similar to you at all, is something that plenty of horror games uses.  All you need is some good horror music, which Minecraft offers with disk 13, and you have a good and scary game.  The idea that only blood and gore is needed for horror is a very basic idea of what horror is. The atmosphere is much more important to horror, and Minecraft actually has a great horror atmosphere.

You know what I am gonna add on to this. Facts that make Minecraft scary The villagers look nothing like you, yet the zombies do. What are the zombies, for they cannot be dead villagers? Scary

The Endermen being eldritch abominations that just travel around collecting blocks for some unknown purpose, becoming hostile should you look in their eyes. Scary

Literally having a hell that you can travel to, where you can harvest the souls of the dead in a convenient block form. Scary Traveling too far until you reach the edge of the world where reality breaks down and nothing makes sense. Scary

The darkness being a source of creatures that serve no purpose but to do one thing and one thing only, and that is to kill. Scary

The idea that the only thing keeping you safe is light and that no matter where you are if it is dark they will get you. Scary

The idea that there is not a single living creature like you in the vastness of this world, and that you are ultimately alone. Scary.
