Let's try to make sense of it all...
Let's talk a bit about Brienne and Jaime here, and about the latest episode (8x04). Now if you haven't seen it and don't want to be spoiled, please, stop reading now.
I know that things are looking way dire right now, and I'm angry af at Jaime for leaving Brienne. BUT...
Let's combine facts (and give them a more positive spin, shall we?)
NCW said that his last scenes were shot in a beautiful location, and I heard he was one of the last ones to wrap up with the series.
GC said (and I just can't remember the phrasing 100%) said the ending was hard to digest, and that she wasn't all that happy (definitely phrased differently) with Brienne's ending.
I think this can still mean a positive ending for Jaime/Brienne shippers. Why?
Let's say that NCW is happy because he didn't die, and that his character ends up in Tarth. I can see this making him happy.
Now, let's talk about Brienne. She's vouched for Jaime, who now left to go back to his sister. She feels betrayed as a woman, and I'm sure she's devastated that she 'kinda' broke her word to Sansa and Dany. Jaime fought for the North, yes, but now he's back with the enemy. So I could very well see Brienne asking to be released from service, going back to Tarth, as she won't be able to live with the guilt and won't think she deserves to be a knight of the seven kingdoms any longer.
Would that be a let down for GC? Yes. She might favour Jaime/Brienne, but she spent years portraying an unconventional woman, one who fought to find her place in a world where women are favoured conventionally beautiful and if possibile pliant, too. Now, Brienne seems to have reached everything she ever hoped for in becoming a knight, only to have it taken from her the very next ep. Brienne won't feel as a knight any long, and she was knighted by a person with a tainted past who just seems to have betrayed everything. So what is her knighting worth any longer.
So imagine Brienne going back to Tarth, not doing much the rest of the series. That would have to be a terrible culmination of Brienne's arc in GC's opinion. Women are more than what their connection to any male might make them. It wouldn't feel that way with Brienne.
So I imagine this being the reason for the different takes NCW and GC have on their endings. I further imagine Jaime betraying (hopefully killing) Cersei in the end, and then, feeling he's finally worth it, going to find Brienne on Tarth.
I could live with that. And now I'll cling to it for at least the next week.
Thanks for listening to my TED talk.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Carol Peletier:Ā a summary
Ok so I have some opinions about Jaime and Brienne.
No one questions that Tormund loves Brienne. They just accept it. Also, no one questions that Brienne loves Jaime. They just accept it. However, lots of people question Jaimeās love for Brienne.
So, whatās the difference between Jaime and Tormund? Well, no offense Tormund, but the difference is Jaime is considered really hot. People donāt find it strange that Tormund, the giant, crazy haired wilding, would fall for Brienne, but Jaime? A man widely considered to be one of the most handsome men in the seven kingdoms, falling for a woman who doesnāt fit conventional beauty standards? They find that completely ridiculous.
Because hereās the thing: if Brienne looked like Danaerys, and Jaime acted the exact same way, no one would doubt that he is completely in love with her. It would be considered obvious.
People simply arenāt willing to believe that a hot guy can fall for a woman who isnāt stereotypically attractive.
And thatās the tea.
Iām sorry, but I just saw this post and I couldnāt agree with it more!
Also, Carylers, does this sounds familiar?Ā
Iāve been shipping Braime since I started watching the show years ago, but itās the first time Iām actually part of the fandom. And man⦠it can be as toxic as TWD fandom.Ā š¤¦š½āā

Jaimeās awkward boner // his massive heart boner for Brienne
Jaime and Brienne arenot āaboveā sex
If you think itās not important for Jaime and Brienne to have sex then you are missing the point of their story. And you are feeding into the damaging, toxic notion that some relationships are ātoo pureā for sex.
This idea that some romantic relationships are āaboveā sex just perpetuates the idea of sex being dirty and cheap and base. In a loving relationship, itās not. Thereās a reason itās called āmaking love.ā
The knighting scene absolutely showed Jaimeās love and understanding of Brienne, and while it validated her as a person, and who she is, it didnāt validate her as a woman. All her life her womanhood has been invalidated by men.
She was too ugly, too strong, too masculine to be seen as a woman, and certainly not a desirable, sexual woman. It is vital for her story that this aspect of her is validated for her to have true narrative closure.
And yes Tormundās lust for her shows she is desirable but not in a way she finds pleasing. He sees her through wildling eyes - a culture where womenās strength and fighting skills are appreciated. She needs to be validated via her own culture, and Jaime is the epitome of that.
And speaking of Jaime, letās not forget how important sex with Brienne is in his narrative. He has had sex with 1 woman his entire life - his sister. Sex for him is imbued with shame, guilt, secrecy and every kind of toxic emotion going. It is important for him as a character to have his honourable status confirmed with a relationship that is healthy and shows the true nature of love. It is because of the pure, untainted, soul-deep nature of Jaime and Brienneās love that they SHOULD have sex. Not why they shouldnāt.
