guy currently hurtling toward a migraine at a rate that would impress most astrophysicists: i wonder wgat is happening in my beautiful telephone
reblog to bite your mutuals /affectionate
just tried to reference the xkcd "today's lucky 10,000" comic but I wanted to explain xkcd first, so I was like "you probably know the one about experts in the field overestimating their audience's familiarity with the subject matter" and uh. he didn't. love me some irony
i think i saw a movie like this once
Ok I needed to know the story and
Guy makes a really stupid decision and gets in a car accident -> no real damage from accident but insurance goes up -> starts beating himself up over his stupid decision -> gets depressed -> starts to realize he's single and had crash been worse he'd die alone -> realizes he's never had a relationship or even a crush and starts wondering what he'd want out of a relationship -> starts to realize he doesn't really like girls so he thinks he must be gay -> realizes he likes girls and boys about the same amount, so he must be bi -> later realizes that "same amount" is none at all -> he's ace
firm believer you can't be a ''good person''. too much niuance to life.
you can be good (adjective) but you cannot be good (identity)
if you think you are good (identity) you are more likely to cause harm as you don't consider yourself to be capable of it
Fictional country: average fantasy
Fictional small town in the middle of nowhere in real country: par for the course in any genre
Fictional major city in real country: standard fair, but it's usually clearly based on a real city
Fictional suburb of real major city in real country: strange but I can see the application
Real major city in fictional country: Chicago can be anywhere you dream of
RULES FOR DATING MY DAUGHTER:
my daughter cannot, through action or inaction, harm a human or allow a human to come to harm
a daughter at rest or in constant motion remains at rest or in constant motion unless acted upon by another force
daughters are never created or destroyed, only transformed
always treat every daughter as loaded, even if you know she isn't
you do not talk about my daughter
Mfs will be making great points about being trans but then ruin it by uttering the word "Theyfab" and now I have to kill you. It's the rules. It's just how it is. I have to kill you now. You don't respect all trans people so I have to kill you. It's the rules. I have to kill you now.
Kyle makes the mistake of meeting up with Johnny in Scotland, in a very small pub that is packed to the brim with punters of all ages, whilst there's a football game on and Scotland is playing.
After several very loud declarations of, "Get it right roon ye."
The occasional, "Christ, the only baws he plays wae are hus ain."
And shots after every goal, Kyle's both drunk and delighted to be included in the celebrations when Scotland wins the match, everyone inside seems willing to talk to the strangers around them about the match. He even gets a "Yer no bad fir a wee Englishman" from an older gentleman who buys him and Johnny a pint when he clocks them as military.
Later, Kyle will forever treasure a blurry video on his phone of himself, Johnny, and the countless faces of people he'll never meet again, roaring along to 500 Miles, all various stages of drunk and red in the face. It should be embarrassing, clinging to a stranger's shoulder and belting out tunes while slightly off tune, but Kyle will always remember the smile on Johnny's face and the light in his eyes.
He thinks a lot about the way Johnny's hands stilled on his own as the man passed over a cigarette outside, the way he hooked a finger around Kyle's pinkie just to keep contact between them.
He wonders how they fit a man with so much to him in such a small urn.
trans princess whose parents arrange her to be married to a foreign prince both to humiliate him and to punish her for refusing to hide and misgender herself for the rest of her life, so she’s sent away, terrified of what kind of rage and abuse she’ll be subjected to by her new husband once he sees her and realizes what’s happened.
but when she arrives and is presented before him, it turns out he’s thrilled. trans people are adored in this kingdom. her parents have accidentally done him an incredible honor in betrothing her to him, and suddenly, she goes from surviving in protest in her home to being showered in gifts and affection from her new husband-to-be.
Just watched Adam Conover (of Adam Ruins Everything) make such a solid point that I think we should spread far and wide. Yes, having AI write your emails is lazy, sure, but people love being lazy. We need to really emphasize that sending AI emails (or using AI responses on social media, or publishing AI flyers, or or or) is rude.
It's rude. You're making someone take their time to read something you couldn't bother to write. You're telling them they were so unimportant you couldn't be bothered to actually take the time to say something yourself. And frankly, you're lying about it while you're at it.
It's rude.
For all its faults Tumblr has truly ruined all other social media for me because my friends all have Instagram and are all trying to get me on Instagram more but every time I open Instagram there are like fifteen things screaming for my attention and when I get over myself long enough to start scrolling it's like. Where is my chronological dash. Where is the following-only option. Who are these people. Why are there so many videos. Everyone is screaming at me. And then before I know it I'm thirty minutes into scrolling and I haven't seen a single thing that I actually care about. At least on Tumblr when I see stuff I don't care about I know someone I follow has found a new interest.
one of the funniest conversations I ever had with my ex was when they were still getting used to Celsius and asked me "what's 20 degrees?" and instead of converting it, I said "it's the highest your dad will ever let you set the thermostat and when you say you're cold he tells you to put on another sweater, we're not made of money" and they went "oh, 68"
the fact that this reference was that fucking precise was something they went on to tell people about for years.
before I was diagnosed with “gender dysphoria” and “transsexualism” I got a hysterectomy. this was not easy— medical misogyny exists and I had to assert repeatedly that i didn’t want children and I was married with a spouse who didn’t want children and that I had tried a “less invasive” solution first. all this sucked. it was paternalistic and condescending and led to me suffering for years for zero reason.
however. if I hadn’t gotten the hysterectomy back then and was trying to get one now, it would be harder. after becoming recognized as trans in medial systems, legally I would need two separate psychiatric professionals to write letters affirming I’d been under their observation, that I was mentally stable enough to know I wanted the surgery, and that they also believed it was necessary. and I would need to find a surgeon willing to operate on trans people.
like this is the difference. the literal procedures involved in medical transition are not exclusive to trans people. the difference is that these procedures are gatekept from us.
that’s why all the laws banning trans healthcare (in the US, I haven’t read legislation elsewhere) are framing it as only banned when someone has a “gender dysphoria” diagnosis. the point isn’t to stop performing the actual procedures, the point is to deny trans people healthcare because we are trans.
saying “trans people don’t need surgery” is like saying “cis people don’t need surgery.” like obviously not every cis person needs every surgery. but cis people have the right to surgery. and trans people deserve the same right.
“It’s easy to assume”: someone’s misconception is about to be amiably corrected
“It’s tempting to assume”: someone’s assumption is about to be criticized
“It’s comforting to assume”: someone’s assumption is going to be read for filth
