I love the wording on the Bard instrument proficiency in 5e. You're given a choice:

a) a lute, or b) any other musical instrument.

Like, that could just say "choose a musical instrument", but they're so insistent that D&D fit this ad hoc pastoral sword and sorcery mediaeval aesthetic that they just have to throw in a "choose an instrument but make sure it is something tonally consistent with the styles of mid-millennia European minstrels".

Meanwhile, Ive either played or run games for Bards that played:

- a violin

- a tuba

- several magic-electric guitars

- magic-electric bass

- a koto

- a thorobo

- a banjo

- a bass banjo

- a hurdy-gurdy

- piano

- a 33' church pipe organ

- maracas

- a piano accordion

- and a cannon (thanks for that option Tchaikovsky...)

Like, "musical instrument" is so wildly flexible.

Headcanon: Despite the human appearance, Caspian is not warm blooded. He’ll be cool or warm to the touch depending on where he’s been. He hates cold weather, and will make his way south as temperatures drop. (He also gets crabby when he’s cold, so expect grumpiness if you’re traveling with him.)
