Inspired by an artist making some landscape paintings out of instant coffee in Mexico City, I painted a portrait of one of our two cats using the same method for the first time.

We went to the Museo Cabañas in the neighborhood of Tlaquepaque in Guadalajara, Mexico on my birthday in 2019. I was captivated by the painting below, "TSICURI II", 1968 oil in canvas by Tomás Coffeen. After we got home, I wanted to recreate it in the physical world. Years later, after a trip to Mexico City (and starting ADHD meds...), we went to a local second hand craft supply store and hardware store and bought the materials necessary. It wasn't until I was building it that I realized what the design reminded me of - the Tree of Life. I had seen the design in various media (i.e. Neon Genesis Evangelion) and this seemed like an indigenous representation of the diagram.
