really really cool and great that it only took four or five months, 30000 dead palestinians, countless war crimes and human rights violations - starmer was a human rights lawyer by the way - a provisional ruling at the ICJ, the suspension of several labour MPs and candidates for voicing pro-palestinian sentiments, the threat of rebellion within the PLP, and losing potential voters just before a general election for him to come to this conclusion! (source)
and he still manages to be a centrist loser even when calling for a ceasefire (source)
of course he’s only doing this to avoid splitting his own party - not because he actually cares about the situation in palestine and so-called israel one jot!
just so we’re clear on what happened in parliament today: keir starmer put the unity of his party over the lives of palestinians who are currently suffering a genocide and he succeeded. this is the leader of the opposition.
The Thick of It Season 1 Episode 1 /// Slow Horses Season 3 Episode 2
i love the idea of them coming up with devious schemes in fergus' office then leaving just to enact their little plans
On rewatching the specials
I'd forgotten that Malcolm actually triggers the PM's resignation as a punishment for the PM keeping Julius closer (the date of the resignation). As soon as Malcolm feels threatened (by the "two ticks" system), he pushes the PM into resigning.
It is so weird to think of Jamie as a staunch Blairite, but all through part 1 that's his stance (in that he is furious at the PM's resignation/hates the nutters) – now of course I'd like him to be a Brownite (Tom Davis being an obvious portrait of Brown). I also reassessed my extrapolations of Jamie's political principles when I remembered how readily he briefs Robyn to shit on the unions. He's much colder than I remembered in re: e.g. "it's a personal issue" and his explanation "it's politics"
You couldn't today write Jamie's love of Jolson, his hand on Terri's face in the urinals (etc)
Nick Hanway is still absolutely evil.
It's a clue as to the ruthlessness of Tom & the Huddle that the Nutters ditch Fatty right at the start of part 2, whereas in part 1 the only named Nutters are Tom & Fatty.
The brief description of Clare B as "a female John Major"
Malcolm reminds me more of Roy Cohn on this rewatch.

It's the season erosion from the climate crisis, combined with a hyperindividualistic and stress-bound society. It warps your sense of time.
awesome. how do i stop all that though
