i saw this comment that lalo has such an expressive face but his eyes are completely soulless, context being when he met gus for the first time at pollos, which scares me bc it was so accurate. despite all his smiling, there's just... nothing there (more devil personification? lol) and then i thought about how gus is the opposite - his face never betrays his thoughts but his eyes definitely do. and with lalo, the only time i remember his eyes not being soulless was the end of s5 and when he sees hector at the old folks home. is this bc of his limited supply of empathy only coming out when it comes to his kryptonite (hector and his hacienda)?

I actually think the psycho eyes are a choice. Lalo loves to act over-the-top jovial with obvious menace simmering underneath as an intimidation tactic. His words are friendly, but his eyes say that he's thinking about skinning you alive and turning you into a coat. That is the kind of thing that sends most people's animal brains into a panic, even moreso than outright threats, because the mixed signals are so confusing. Most people will be desperate to play along to keep him in a good mood. (This tactic works well on Jimmy lol)
