"I almost died like three times because I had a phobia of cats and I would run out into the road when I saw my neighbor’s cat and I got hit by cars. I used to get hit by cars regularly. Three times it happened and then my mum was like, You need to go to therapy lady, to heal from this. I did systematic desensitization. You create a hierarchy of fear, so it starts with, like, I’ve got to look at a picture of a cat without crying, and then the next week I’ve gotta look at a video of a cat without crying, and then the next week it’s the video of the cat with the sound on without crying, all the way to holding a cat. I did this year of therapy and then at the end I was holding a cat and I was sobbing, I was so scared. But, then I realized that I was snotty and then I was sneezing and my throat was closing up and I was like, Oh, I’m deathly allergic to cats." — SHABANA AZEEZ for Cultured Magazine (x)
Maintaining eye contact is something Baran Al-Hashimi prefers - it tells her the person is actively engaged in the conversation, makes it easier for her to clock if someone is lying and... ok, sure, maybe she uses it as an intimidation tactic in the M.D. boys club. After all, it was still a 60/40 split even in 2026.
So when a certain pricklepear of an R2 can't maintain eye contact (she has definitely noted that Trinity's eyes lock on anywhere but her eyes) she aims to correct the issue.
Until she overhears Dr. Santos and Dr. King discussing the similarities between ADHD and Autism, both expressing that eye contact is distracting, exhausting, and incredibly overstimulating.
... or in Dr. Santos' words "the last patient demanded I look her in the eye and I wanted to tear my eyeballs out and put them in a blender with bleach."
Harrow, Gideon and Ianthe: wow this sucks I wonder what the others are doing

'I really prided myself as someone who was able to not take the character home when we were filming season one. I would sit under my weighted blanket, have a glass of wine and really watch myself take my make-up off. I’d think, "Okay, I’m getting out of character now." But for season two, these tricks didn’t really work.'
