SHE  BLINKS  A  FEW  TIMES ,    processing the sheer audacity behind these statements .  excuse you ,  but …    courtney was  THE  chillest person she knew .   “  EXCUSE ME ??   i - i ‘m   like the chillest person i know !!  ”   voice reaches an impossible octvve .  she’s being defensive ,  she knows it ,  and as much as she liked to say she didn’t care what other people think …   she does care .  with a begrudged scoff ,  one accompanied by an eye roll ,  courtney crosses her arms .  “  i  AM  smart  ––   it’s like ,  my  THING ??  and i wouldn’t have to be so quote - unquote controlling  if people just did whatever i said no questions asked .  ”   

            THIS IS SO MUCH FUN! If Courtney Callahan were animated, she’d have smoke coming out of her ears. Or from her nose, like a bull. She doesn’t need a sermon to convince anyone of anything. Popularity doesn’t PREACH –– popularity tells it like it is. In two-hundred and forty characters... or less! “ Cool girls keep their cool, Courtney.            daddy’s     favorite     rum     didn’t   sound    so    bad    ,    especially   if   it’s    imported     .     seemed   midge   made   the    right    call   after   all                  besides     ;     if    trixie    tang    was   going   to   be   at   her   party    ,    everyone   else   would    for   sure     .     midge   could   put    personal    feelings     aside    for   a   night    .     ‘     oh   trixie    ,    you’re  the   absolute    best     .    ’

            “ I KNOW, RIGHT? ” She glowed –– if not for her beaming Colgate smile ( years of braces hadn’t gone to waste –– though no one would ever know looking at those PERFECT teeth now ) then that pop of glittery highlighter along her cheekbone had done its job. It was a major step up from the shimmery blush that was all the rage when she was eleven. “ So, are you going to have a date? You so need a date. It’s been like, forever –– are you STILL with Moose Mason? ”
