What makes a death in fiction sad is not just that it happens, but also the situation surrounding the death.

Which is why Lux’s death in Tron: Uprising is sad to me. She spends most of the episode fighting Beck and Tron, not knowing who Tron really is. When she finds out Tron is still alive, she derezzes her boss Kobol, and sacrifices herself so Tron and Beck can escape.

Lux is an interesting character who is, unfortunately, mixed up with Kobol who she seems to care for, although he’s probably just using her. It is a bit tropey, but still a sad death.
